Yesterday was Wonder Woman's 75th anniversary, and coincidentally it was also the day that she was appointed an honorary U.N. ambassador for the empowerment of women and girls.
DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson, director Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot, and Lynda Carter were all present at the event in New York City to accept the designation on Wonder Woman's behalf.

The negativity around this is beyond me, as the German media really tore this one apart.
This isn´t the first time the UN appointed a "cartoon", it won´t be the last. Wonder Woman certainly makes more sense than Winnie the Pooh or Tinker Bell, who were used for similar project before.

I still don´t get that Disney of all people is the villain here, but he certainly explained why.
I'm surprised at how this garnered such a negative response...but this shouldn't get in the way of the fact that Wonder Woman has the ability to positively influence people across the world, especially girls.
I'm not ashamed to say that batman definitely has taught me a thing or two about being a good human being in life in several different ways. Fictional or not, to inspire and bring out the good in people is nothing to scoff at.
Winnie the Pooh became the Ambassador of Friendship in 1998
Tinkerbell was named Ambassador of Green in 2009
The UN appointed Red, the leader of the Angry Birds, a popular mobile game, as the Honorary Ambassador for International Day of Happiness in 2016
Wonder Woman is certainly an "upgrade" and the most logical superhero due to her function as an ambassador in the books. The haters couldn´t even google a bit of UN history it seams.
Wow, I was unaware of those other characters...to call wonder woman an upgrade is an understatement. Knowing that now, the criticism seems ridiculous.
Princess Leia would also get my approval, if you consider the projects this promotes.
I can´t think of anyone else though and where would the internet we without drama. The protest by the UN staff (even inside the hall!) is beyond shameful though.
What sort of massage sends that to the invited girls?
Actually, the stories that featured Winnie the Pooh are pretty incredible read and can have a really positive and powerful influence on younger readers. It's an incredible tale about friendship and coming of age. Disney animation just took the 'fun' part and created a franchise with it, leaving most of the heart and lessons from the story, which sadly most people associate this character with.
So, Pooh actually, as far as those stories goes, is justified as an ambassador of friendship. as far as WW goes, she totally deserves to be recognized as something when Angry Bird is getting recognition, for some reason.
The Angry Bird thing was about pollution, and how they are "angry" with it.

I loved Diane Nelson's speech. So powerful and inspiring. Lynda's and Gal's speech were awesome too but my favorite was Diane's. I don't understand the negativity towards Wonder Woman being named Ambassador. She is not the first character on receiving this privilege but she is the first comic book hero on doing so. She is a fighter who seeks peace and fights for equality among women and men and above all, she fights for love. Shine bright Diana, way to go! 😃🙅🏻👊🏻💅💪🏻
