Former Spider-Man contender Asa Butterfield is more of a DC Comics fan anyways

19 year old actor Asa Butterfield was very close to becoming Marvel's new Spider-Man, before they ultimately decided that Tom Holland was the best guy for the job. In a new interview with Flickering Myth, Butterfield revealed that he's more of a DC Comics fan anyways, and expressed interest in a role in the DC Films Universe.

Are you more a DC or Marvel fan?
DC honestly – just from the comics and the cartoon series. I like the grittiness of DC.
Would a role in the DC Extended Universe be something that may peak your interest? Looking at you, maybe playing Robin or Nightwing would fit?
Don’t jinx it! I’m maybe a bit too tall for Robin and about the same height as Ben Affleck but maybe someone who’s taller and sleek and a little sneaky!
They went younger with Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Maybe you could be the new Riddler, he’s tall and sleek!
Stop, you’re getting me excited!
Are you a fan of the new DC films, Batman v Superman, etc.?
I’m a big fan and I’m really excited to see Justice League!

Asa Butterfield is such a talented young actor. When he was first cast to play Ender Wiggins I thought it was perfect. Then when production started, boy did he just hit his growth spurt. He went from the little boy in Hugo to almost as tall as Harrison Ford in the film.

I'd love to see him somewhere in the DC universe.

I'm not sure this kid knows how tall Affleck is. Affleck has a solid 4-5 inches on him. I think he's probably way too young to play Nightwing. Seems like Nightwing would be late 20s at the youngest in this universe.

He could easily play Tim Drake or Damian Wayne.
Or if he's not going to be Batman's ward, then Beast Boy.

  Definitely, but I think it's going to a really long time before we see the 3rd and 4th Robin in the cinematic universe. I do think they plan to have Dick and Jason, but that alone will need some good explaining for the casual viewer.

Agree with the age difference but not the height difference, dick Grayson is 5'10 in the comics to batman 6'2 that's the same 4 inch height difference to bens 6'4 to asa 6'0.

Totally unrelated, but Eva Green is 5'6" and she looks very tall in 'Casino Royale' and all other films. The camera can make anyone look any way these days.

Butterfield was close to being cast as Spider-Man until Marvel remembered they prefer middle-class English actors playing a working-class kid from Queens.

I guess American actors just can't compete with English actors when it comes to playing American kids.

Oh, and Vision is played by a middle-class English guy.

And Loki is played by a middle-class English guy.

Almost forgot, Dr. Strange is being played by a middle-class English guy.

All those American actors, and they're just not good enough to play so many American comic book characters.

PS. Jenny Agutter gets a pass because she's awesome.

PPS. Even over at Warner Bros. they've got a middle-class English guy playing Superman! I mean really, is America THAT short of decent actors?
