'The Flash' director Rick Famuyiwa teases script changes

Rick Famuyiwa has written every movie he's directed, and it seems like The Flash won't be any different. Famuyiwa joined the project after the original director and script writer, Seth Grahame-Smith, parted ways with Warner Bros.

Famuyiwa isn't re-writing the entire script but he's putting his own stamp on The Flash, as evident from a tweet that the director sent out this afternoon. Famuyiwa posted an image of the script which read "current revisions by Rick Famuyiwa".

Production on The Flash is expected to start this year. It's currently scheduled for a March 16, 2018 release date.

Cyborg in the back... Can't wait for the DCEU to get back on tracks and build a solid cohesive universe. I hope to see some heroes sharing some screen in solo movies, it would be a huge step forward.

Wonder how they are going to explain where Supes is when Gotham is being overrun by criminals again, that's one thing I don't like about Gotham and Metropolis being sister cities.

    Gotham and Metropolis aren't close to each other in the comics most of the time so it sort of makes sense why they won't cross into each other's cities, only thing that separates the two cities in the DCEU is a bridge.

      Still, with Supes powers he should be able to help basically everyone everywhere then. With them being sister cities, at times it sort of makes Superman obligated to go help Gotham as well since they are so close.

      and he can. If Superman wanted to, he could make being Superman his only priority and do every superhero's job for them. But Batman and Superman have an understanding. Superman doesn't involve himself in Gotham's affairs unless Batman specifically asks for help. I would love to see a scene in the Batman movie where Superman shows up to help, and Batman makes it clear that his city is off limits.

      Superman died... cause instead of throwing the spear, he wanted to get all close and personal with Doomsday. Even his conversation with Lois hints at the idea that he knew what he was about to do would kill him. That doesn't sound like the judgement I want from a guy who's supposed to protect a city for the long haul.

      Really doubt throwing the spear would have been effective. He was weakened by the kryptonite in it, and Doomsday didn't die until he used all his might to drive it through him.
      A flimsy throw with no continuous drive seems like a bad risk. No time for fumbles.

      Valid point. Still, he could have let Wonder Woman do it. She's not weakend by kryptonite and already showed she had the strength to chop off one of his limbs. That being said, I hate trying to force logic into comic book movies.

If they did something simple as putting a crowd of unprotected people about to get blasted by his heat vision with WW's lasso being the only thing preventing from doing it so in that moment would make things better. The thing with this movie is that it has so many unexplained confusions that end up leaving fans to argue and find a decent answer to all these confusions. Like, how Superman saved Lois in 5 seconds while he was in exile but couldn't find his mom? If Superman didn't show up Batman would stain in the rain all night and keep coming every night until he shows up? These huge plot holes make me so mad...

      She was trying to restrain him because they were fighting, and she had exhaustively tried the sword and shield at that point. She uses the lasso to fight sometimes, and Superman saw that moment as the opportunity to go for a bold strike.
      What's confusing about that? I honestly don't understand why this has to be explained.
      It's also not hard to imagine that Superman had more trouble finding Martha than Lois because he would have known about what Lois was doing that day or been able to keep tabs her (because that's the kind of guy Superman obviously is - he knows Lois does dangerous reporting and worries about her), but Martha was taken covertly (and had her mouth covered) without his knowledge.
      I don't know why you would even wonder about what Batman would do if Superman didn't show up. What Batman did was a direct response to Superman's threat to him to give up being Batman, his 'light in the sky' specifically mentioned. And Lex pushed him into it regardless through his manipulation. Of course he showed up. There was no other option.

      If superman sees a problem in gotham it will take him a few second to go sort it out where as if gotham was on the other side of the country, he'll most likely just let batman sort it out since its not worth going the distance even with his speed. By the time he gets there, batman would have already arrived, now with sister cities, superman can deal and finish the problem before batman even gets in the batmobile.

      If your definition of his speed is based on a tv show level, I can kind of see that, but on a comicbook level, Superman's speed makes distance negligible when considering where and where not to intervene. The underlying reason for leaving Gotham alone, besides Batman's warning/demand, is that Superman trusts Batman.

      yeah well for the plot and to build a big coherent universe, won't ever go for the full comicbook level, or i guess it's 50/50. Another thing is the news, with sister cities, both probably constantly report each other crimes and such, if Gotham is on the other side of the country, superman wouldn't even know what's going on.

      In MoS they displayed not only the kryptonian's speed with fighting but with flight. His learning to fly scene showed him going from the Arctic to the Serengeti in mere moments. And they also allured to how powerful his hearing is when not trained to focus on one area. So he technically could hear across the world if he knew exactly where he wanted to listen.

      But in bvs they went and restricted his powers again, he was much slower when he fought against doomsday and didnt even use his superhearing to help find his mother.

      I think part of his hearing focus is based on who he is currently tuned in to. In MoS, it was his Mother, but in BvS it was Lois. But still, I'm sure the speed he uses to travel to where he needs to save the day is much greater than the speed he uses to fight an opponent that doesn't move very quickly comparatively.

      Doomsday should have never gotten a hit if superman constantly used his speed at his full potential. also with his strength, should have been able to hit doomsday alot further away from earth than they showed so even if the nuke did travel the same distance and hit them, they should have still remained in space. They also showed him that he can still use his powers to an extent with kryptonite by flying, so couldn't he have also used some strength to throw the spear?

      absolutely true about his speed, and I agree with throwing the spear as I mentioned earlier in this thread. I still think my original point is valid and should be used so people aren't questioning why Superman doesn't make Batman's crusade in Gotham obsolete.

      When Martha was kidnapped, she was in Smallville so the DC Films Superman couldn't have heard her. We see in Lex's photographs that she was gagged so she couldn't have been able to scream. And KG Beast had her at gun-point remember? Is it because she was capable of jumping out the window, or something? Clearly KG Beast had instructions to tell Martha he'd shoot her if she shouts.
      In contrast, Louis was hollering at the top of her voice and was out in the open for Superman—if he was in Metropolis which Lex would know about.

      In MoS, when Zod was questioning her, I don't believe she yelled when she fell to the ground, and in BvS, All it took was Superman hearing Lois' heart rate slow down when she was drowning. So I think when he's focused on you, how audible you are has little effect.

      And he didn't hear Lois's heartbeat but her thumping on the concrete-slab. I don't think it's possible to hear her heartbeat since she was fully submerged.

      Yeah, because DD is huge. Even Nam-Ek in MoS wasn't as fast as Superman and Faora, but he was still able to lay the smackdown. DD is still fast for a guy his size.

      and the original argument was that if Superman used his full speed then it shouldn't have been possible, so they weaken him to make it a fair fight for the plot.

      And I pointed out that Superman still got his ass whooped by a guy who was slower than him. And then there's the fact that DD was getting stronger through both fights. Then in round 1, Superman was already weak from his fight with Batman. Then writers augment his strength all of the time. In every single fight, Superman is never as strong or fast as he originally was. Nobody made complaints during his animated fights, so why is this a big deal now?

      The original script apparently addressed this and had Superman try to find Martha through his hearing. And it's physically impossible for sound to propogate far enough within a city for even a fictional super-sensitive receiver to catch.

      The Flight scene in MoS wasn't a long-take and had several cuts so I wouldn't consider it a good way of determining his speed. And in the scenes we do see him continuously, he is pushing himself like his father just told him to do. We don't know if he can keep it up throughout the day every day.
      The childhood flashback has him hearing sounds from a nearby train-station—the same train-station featured in the Smallville battle with Faora and Namek. It's not that far. He can't even hear every sound within a state; it's just not possible physically.

      It wouldn't matter either way. Superman could easily still fly to Gotham in the comics. Even the Flash could if he wanted to. That's why writers made the "no metas allowed" rule.

    Well, given that Supes can fly to awesome speeds all over the planet, don't you think it really don't matter where gotham is? plus, Superman cannot "save them all" as they try to point out in BvS, one of the most "human" trades to Supes is that he spends half his time as Clark; he doesn't embraces the suit 24/7, and so, around the world folks still die when he takes a shower, has dinner with Lois or takes a nap.
    For me its a nice twist , adding on the many "connections" this two heroes have.
    What i wonder is how can Clark come back to life now....

      It matters because being across the river makes the two cities sisters to each other, which they should not be. If it rains in Gotham, it should rain in Metropolis as well. If crime in Gotham is high, it should be high in Metropolis as well. You cannot create a meaningful contrast in such close proximity.

  Supes might fly to Gotham, save a bus full of kids, anf fly away, but the Batman operates at night, assaults on the bad guys, brings down organizations, with virtually no evidence of his work (maybe a batarang or two stuck on a wall) he is still a "myth" to %99 of the population, also to Cyborg :-P
  Supes wont even caught on Batman unless he asks for help, thats one of their different strokes, day versus night

  Yeah, they're being sister cities really bugs me. But they could just use the excuse that Batman doesn't want help, but if it's a really big deal like that affects the whole city then it would be really weird not having Supes around, so you're right. Gosh, the problem is not even Gotham and Metropolis being sister cities, but just being separated by a bridge. But hey, Snyder thought it would be cool!

    Gotham City and Metropolis are NOT merely connected by a bridge, Clark catches the ferry to Gotham in BvS FFS. As established by the Gotham and Metropolis maps via Turish Airlines...

    In 1990 it was established in the comics that Gotham and Metropolis were in seperated by one state. Neither distance means anything to heroes capable of super speed like Superman, Flash so who cares? It's the same issue any shared comic-book movie faces that contains characters of varied power levels... why didn't Iron Man/War Machine intervene in The Winter Soldier with the destruction in Washington, DC? Because it was a Captain America movie.
    The answer is simple, don't nitpick and get over it!

  - I understood everything that was thrown at me - even those ridiculous dream sequences - and I still hold my opinion, DCEU doesn't have a cohesive solid universe yet, but it's ok since you can't achieve that in just three movies.

  - What?? The MCU was getting criticized for NOT doing that, everyone kept asking themselves where the rest of the avengers were when the president was in danger in Ironman 3 for example. They're just now starting with Thor Ragnarok in which we'll see the Hulk and Spiderman in which we'll see Tony Stark probably. I don't like Marvel, but you can't deny they make faithful movies to the characters that are extremely successful at the box-office, critics and all of the fans love it! Whatever they're doing, they're not doing it wrong. Also, how can you say that having different characters in different movies has no reason to happen? That's literally HOW you build a cohesive universe.
  Conclusion: Open your mind, just because you like DC doesn't mean everything they're doing is right, in fact, almost everything is wrong! At first they wanted to be dark and gritty, after the results of BvS they completely changed their mind and changed the whole universe in such a way that Suicide Squad was completely messed up with "two movies" in one. To me, not even knowing the tone of your own movies is being off track, but that's alright, we're just starting! So I repeat what I said earlier: Can't wait for the DCEU to get back on tracks!

I finally got around to watching Dope(Pretty awesome)... I think Rick Ffamuyiwa will do Cyborg a lot of justice and definitely should be considered for the Cyborg standalone film.
Can't wait for the possible Flash Trilogy that could lead to Flashpoint :D. DCs Civil War.

  Agreed Flashpoint should be like DCs Civil War. Wait till the universe is really rolling before investing in such a game changer. Also if at any point they need to change actors (Marvel has been really lucky) Flashpoint is a logical time for any changes needed.

Why on earth would they do Flashpoint, which set up a controversial reboot, instead of a more-normal story about a hero with super-speed fighting villains? This is the one movie that should feel a lot like the TV universe (since Season 1 of the show pretty much nailed the old Barry v Rogues dynamic, and the Flash is naturally the lightest of the heroes they're using).

    It's hardly a mess (we've gotten two deeply-layered movies and one that was straight "let's crank some tunes and blow stuff up!" fun), and it's obvious at this point that no one at DC or Warner Bros. (and I'd guess Geoff Johns is in that number) has the least bit of interest in bringing the monthly-canon DCU to the big screen. Original Elseworlds graphic novels FTW.
    Disclaimer: I quit buying monthlies 20 years ago when I realized I just didn't care enough anymore to make the trek to the comics store, or to spend the time reading them.

Another BvS in the making, rewrite after rewrite, shoehorning another character and focus on more than one villain. Rick also doesn't have any big action blockbusters behind him so I expect the action to be lackluster as well.

Definitely good news! If Marvel/DC are up for assigning directorial ownership to these current "social-magnetic" individuals, then it makes sense if they feel they have to "tweak" the written material just a tad for it to make sense in the long run. I would not be surprised if in the end it's pending an approval from Johns.

  Hmm maybe because comics and films/TV isn't that big of a difference? You still need to get the characterization, pacing, action, and the plot right. The amazing stories have already been written, all he has to do is translate it from paper to live action.
