'Suicide Squad: The Album' becomes only soundtrack this year to go Gold

The hits just keep on coming for Suicide Squad. Not only is the movie crushing it at the box office, but the soundtrack has been having a lot of success as well. It was #1 on the Billboard charts last month, and now it reached another big achievement.

According to Kevin Weaver, EVP at Atlantic Records (the label that released the soundtrack), Suicide Squad: The Album has officially been certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). A Gold status means that the album has sold over 500,000 copies. It's the only movie soundtrack released this year to have hit that milestone.

      What could we do to be better, in your eyes? If comments are deleted it's with good reason (either violating the rules at the top or just back and forth bickering that doesn't accomplish anything), and we want this to be a civil place where anyone can feel free to share their thoughts without others attacking them. Disagreements and debates are fine, but condescension and personal attacks are not. "Don't be a jerk" and what have you. (This isn't aimed at you personally, just a general statement)
      And we don't "work" for the site; it's a hobby to write for the site, though one we gladly volunteer for.

        I've seen plenty of good debates be deleted including my own, without breaking the 3 rules posted. What does bickering actually mean to you guys? If that is a rule them maybe you should post it as well with a definition then. I see nothing wrong with debates and usually logic dictates who wins and I have learned a lot from other people's point of view through them. Now if I was calling people names then I would understand but I've had someone there try to ban me already with no explanation or reply as well. But when the 3 rules posted are broken then I understand.

        Keep in mind I'm being very general here.
        Bickering is when there's a thread with 80-some odd replies and it's all between the same two people restating the same points. It happens frequently, and nobody wins in those situations. It's just gotten out of hand.
        Name-calling is a big one that, again, happens a lot, so if there's an "lol" or "you clearly..." or any actual attempt at degradation of character, then it violates the rules. The tone of a post is also a factor, and while it's really difficult to discern intent and tone of voice from written text, there are times where it's pretty clear that someone is being spoken down to.
        I'm glad you brought up logic, because really, "logic" doesn't dictate a winner, especially when the same arguments constantly come up in thread after thread. Even if you don't think so, when the word logic is introduced in the arguments ("if you'd think logically...") it effectively comes across as saying "if you would think, you'd agree." When the vast majority of these arguments are based on opinions, stating that someone's personal feelings on a matter are illogical isn't the right way to go.
        As far as someone trying to ban you, I don't know anything about that. Sorry it happened.

        Wow, so an lol is degrading now? You can't laugh at comment? You know there is such a thing as a stupid comment, those do exist. There's a difference between logic/facts vs opinions as well. A statement followed by imo is very different than a statement of fact that isn't. I'm just asking for some common sense and lenience when moderating because that has not been always the case here.

I'm truly astounded by how many people liked Sucker and Lamborghini. I think those are horrible songs. Heathens is fine.

  I like Sucker For Pain more than Purple Lamborghini, but my favorite might be I Need A Gangster. I just love how it fit that scene perfectly.

    It was written by Skylar Grey who was supposed to perform it too, but she did the rap Wreak Havoc instead. I liked it much better after watching the movie!

  Of all the songs Heathens is the one I dislike most. Would've preferred any other song than that as the music to the cool credit sequence in SS.

  There's more than that tho' Heathens, Lamborghini and Sucker were the big hits that carried the album. But you got some gems in it; Gangsta, standing in the rain, you don't own me, slippin into darkness... Overall the album is very good hence people buying It

The Squad album is great and the success is very well deserved after all the bitching about the music.
It´s an essential part of the film´s identity and Heathens deserves to get awards.

  Love how you ignore the fact that 4 of the characters on the Marvel side were b-list characters, meanwhile two of them on the DC side is the world's two most popular characters or at least was and the movie with them together couldn't even make a billion. MoS and BvS alone should have made around 2.5B with SS pushing it pass 3, but sure, keep trying to spin it.

    And if you look at the averages for each universe, MCU is just above DCEU, with 13 and 3 films respectively, which will go down I believe wig strange and up with SS, since it's still out. So, I think DCEU will pass MCU in that way, yet, I think next year, MCU will get on top again.
    I got no dog in this fight, just fun with numbers, yet long live the fan rivalry! So entertaining!

  Please don't spread that weak argument here. DC started with Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Marvel started with heroes that no one ever heard of!
  If you want to boast about beating Marvel, the fact that Suicide Squad beat Captain America 2 is HUGE and surprising news. Be proud of that, not what you wrote above.

    The under-performed Hulk is an A-list character and Cap was once A-list in the US only. His death in Civil War was also on the US news for a hot second. The rest is correct.

        Hulk internationally shaped a generation of tv. He will never be Superman but he just went though another toon. The last one Superman got was in the 90s. The ONLY reason Hulk can´t be used better is due to the messy legal situation with Universal. Being the 10th or so biggest superhero ever doesn´t make you a nobody and WB has treated their properties like shit till TDK came along. Marvel also only listed up due to Spider-man 1.

        Yes, I agree that The Hulk was one of Marvel's more well known characters. But I just don't think (then or now) he's anywhere near the level of Batman or Superman.

        Noone but Spider-man is on that level in comics. Son Goku can´t even reach that pedestal.
        The main problem is that Superman went out of season, outside of merchandising. Even Joe Quesada famously ranted against WB´s treatment of him, not that it was constructive.

        Superman 1 and 2 printed money. 1 made a bil. if adjusted for inflation, but that is moon math from another millennium.
        Returns (5/10) is a very pretty mess but it got Superman wrong the most despite getting the right guy. A superhero film should maybe feature a real hero and not a deadbeat. Action and a villain with a point (another land deal?) would help too. JJ´s Flyby should have been made instead:

    HULK , Spiderman and Iron Man were A list since forever. Its really a pathetic argument because back then when Spiderman movie came out, its special effect and production was like nothing any comic book fan has seen before. I remember when Spiderman movie came out it was huge.
    Marvel wanted from start to make comic movies that appeal to all audiences they are scared of more dark tones which is why they never got Hulk story right and why the Hulk in avengers is nowhere near the Hulk we knew from the comics. The only version that got closer was Ang's Lee version but even he preferred to illustrate it with vibrant colors and insert the mandatory Marvel comedy. Dont even dare tell me Hulk is not super popular marvel hero, Hulk was always the second favorite after Spiderman. As someone else said maybe it came third only in US after Captain America but I highly doubt.
    On the other hand DC is not afraid to go full dark which is why they dont even need to compete with Marvel to make huge profits. Actually the funny thing is that they went the exact opposite , while Marvel attempted lighter tones and comedy at their films DC made dark even its by far light hereo, Superman and still succeeded.
    I was raised as Marvel fan and I am now a DC fan. Of course I am still a Marvel fan too. My problem with marvel is that they dont respect their comic book heroes , they try to make them too funny and that was definetly not the tone I was experiencing when reading the comics as a child. See iron man, iron man in the comic was just a rip off of batman, he was not a funny, clever, playboy caring mostly about himself. He was a serious scientist, with a dark side caring about the world. Spiderman was not this oversensitive crying baby , he was a kinda crazy teenager and a big show off. Actually the Amazing Spiderman movies were the only faithful depiction I have seen from Marvel. Dont even get me started on Iron Man and Mandarine, seriously !!! WTF !!!!
    Age of Ultron was awesome though.
    The reason why DC and Marvel movies doing great is because they are very well made and not just expensive spectacles.
    DC does not beat Marvel and Marvel does not beat DC. They have so different styles in the way they present their characters which basically gives them enough room for both to co exist making big money for a long, long time.
    I feel extremely lucky to be able to watch my favorite comic book heroes in so well produced, luxurious movies.
    Seriously you wanna talk about A list heroes ? Marvel's biggest success as a movie was using one of its least know heroes and it was a movie they did not want to make. Deadpool.
    No other move comes remotely close to the success of Deadpool commercially made on almost non existent budget.
    A list hero means nothing, its all about the story, the rest is non sense.
    For me Iron Man 3 and Civil War were crappy , for other people BvS and Man of Steel. All of these movies have one thing in common , that commercially they made enormous amount of money.
    So Marvel and DC will keep making because people are still hungry for them, I am definitely very , very hungry. Can't wait for Dr Strange :)

    Very true. And I'm more of a marvel fan, but fair is fair, SS beat Cap 2 and is eyeballing GOTG's title too.
    As for Hulk, I think Ang Lee's movie killed any hype for another one at TIH's time. Did avengers fix that? Guess the rights issue will keep that a mystery for the time being. Just rewatched TIH, man, the possibilities! "Mr. Blue" aka the Leader, had bucu Hulk blood stored up, no to mention a big ol head, threads still dangling, but it and IM 1 were pre- 4 billion dollar acquisition of marvel by Disney. And barely anyone saw it. Sucks.

You know, it's not like SS is the best movie of the year, in my opinion, but news like this are certainly a sign that many people/critics went to the movies already hating this picture. I feel like a large number of critics never gave the movie a chance - bashing the music was the most obvious sign. Fun pop music being used in clever ways... that was all. Perfect? Well, maybe that's not your thing, and that's okay, but saying it ruined the movie? Really?
I think of Guardians of the Galaxy (SS is often compared to it, even more so when people refer to the soundtrack) and its selection: classic songs from the eighties, nothing that would be shocking or unusual. And then there's SS, with a couple of old hits and a healthy mix of new tunes which are, let's face it, rejected by a more conservative audience. And I think: how sad it is that most people who's job is to communicate and, by consequence, mold critical thinking in society (even if only about movies), are so unwilling to give a honest try, to give a chance to something that is slightly out of norm?
If Suicide was just a bit more bland, maybe it could have been better received, like "great" movies like Furious 7 and Jurassic World.

  It felt like they just shoehorned the music in last minute, didn't feel like it belonged with the scenes. With Guardians, you can easily tell when the scene was filmed, they had that music in mind and it just came naturally.
  Besides music was far from SS's biggest issue, the dumb plot was and a 12 year old could have written something better.

Not saying we shouldn't aim for more, but the aforementioned "hits" Furious 7 and Jurassic World are certainly in this category. Hell, even "The Force Awakens" was pretty straightforward and pretictable. And yet... look how patronizing the reviews are. Double standards, anyone?

      Their plots weren't as dumb as Suicide Squad. Their mission was basically to help Waller climb stairs, supposedly the military couldn't kill those creatures even though it was shown in the beginning that all it takes is a headshot and they were even shown killing the creatures. As for the Squad, none of them except for Deadshot showed any kind of fighting abilities that the military themselves couldn't do yet the mission was only achievable with them? But let's ignore that and talk about the Squad's sudden change of heart and the final battle, they showed zero affection for human life but all it took was a drink for them to change? Diablo only knew the Squad for like 4 hours and already considers them to be a family? Then you have the dumb villain, dancing for whatever reason and still giving the Squad a second chance right after they KILLED her brother... jeez typing this out made the plot sound even worse.

        One mission was not for Waller to be rescued but that became a second mission which was to save the world.
        The military had difficulty fighting the creatures because they are predictable people...the squad thrives on unorthodox means and unpredictability. Harley Quinn is no joke...she is impulsive brutal and as you saw deadly as in the comics. She kills on the drop of a dime and she carried a bat and a gun and as to her fighting abilities you probably forgot when she jump on a creature and leg locked it while spinning in the air and shooting up another creature then disabling it and bashing it's head in. Katana was a beast with the sword and her movements, Captain Boomerang using his boomerangs to rip up the creatures and Killer Corc with super human strength and tough skin just smashing creatures around, Diablo burning everything alive....to smitherenes....think about it they were lethal...Rick Flag and his men did not have that merc like capacity and pure savageness this team had...as Will Smith described them...a "rag tag team of attitude"....
        As to the squad's change of attitude that was building since Deadshot chose not to kill Rick Flag and company when they had their chance when the teams split up. instead they realized they were against a greater foe which they knew nothing about....and instead of killing Rick Flag they had to save his life continually.....then we see Deadshot's influence on the team getting Diablo to shoot flames, reign in Harley Quin when she had a death wish, take charge and storm into a building to save Waller, confronted Flag to get the truth when the deal was not met, lead the team into the bar for a drink. Oh I think there was team building with every step of the journey but that is just me maybe.

        LOL yeah okay, the crap you guys come up with to defend these shitty movies is hilarious. Again they showed nothing that the normal skilled soldier couldn't do and as an alternative for the "super strength", a grenade and done. As for Diablo again, he did jackshit for most of the movie so he wasn't needed for that particular scene if they managed to survive before.
        This is one of those movies when the plot demands it, it better happen. When it's time for the Squad to do something, the soldiers will turn into morons, to make Diablo finally do something, the Squad will suffer and the creatures will double in numbers and also get stronger and faster all of the sudden.

  I'm 33 and like em due to, well, robot and ticking and tutting and popping and all that other stuff, to those sounds. Sure, I like old school beats, but man, animation to those junkyard sounds looks pretty cool. If you're into that sort of thing. Lots of cats way older than me and way way better than me at it.

To be fair, BvS had an excellent soundtrack, the last from Hans Zimmer for CBMs. The track "Beautiful Lie" is my all time favorite. It helped in creating the best opening sequence for a super-hero movie ever. On the other hand, SS's music was just OK for me.

People talked so much shit about the soundtrack in the movie though. Made me think the album wouldn't do this good
