Jared Leto: They cut "a lot" of my Joker scenes out of 'Suicide Squad'

The Suicide Squad cast is over in the UK promoting their new movie, and TeleStar caught up with the Joker himself, Jared Leto. Leto was asked if there was a scene that didn't make it into the final cut of the movie that he wish had, and apparently there were a lot of them!

"There are a lot of scenes that didn't make it to the final film," Leto explained. "Hopefully they will see the light of day. Who knows."

That's pretty disappointing, especially if fans really like Jared Leto's Joker (which judging by the reviews, they probably will).

News broke today citing some behind-the-scenes drama around the production of Suicide Squad. Apparently there were two versions of the movie being worked on simultaneously -- a Warner Bros. version and a David Ayer version. WB's ultimately won out, and maybe that one had less Joker for some reason?

No word yet on any kind of "Ultimate Edition" Blu-ray like they did for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but I really hope there is so fans can see the Joker footage that was cut out of the movie. It sounds like Leto wants the world to see it too!

They're gonna double-dip with every movie they bring out now, aren't they? They don't care about making a good movie at all. Now they'll be intent on making the first cuts of these movies just that little bit worse than they have to be, just so they can recut it for the dumb asses who'll say to their buddies, "Well, you gotta watch the director's cut." The whole thing is a fucking con.

  Well, wouldn't go as far as calling me a fool, plus I never said I trust the critics. I just said it's not very reassuring. I mean, if history taught us anything, it's the fact that most of the good movies also get good reviews. That's sort of a... you know, how things work.
  But hey, let's do a fun exercise and examine what we know so far:
  1) Critics seem to dislike the movie
  2) Insider stories showcase a lot of disturbing information, including "high anxiety", "reshoots", "drama", "cuts" and so on and so forth
  3) Ayer is no god.
  4) Heard bad response from other people, not only critics
  5) They are already "talking" about releasing a version that will "fix" things
  And when it comes to me, personally:
  1) MoS wasn't received very well among critics. I hated the movie.
  2) BvS got panned to shreds. I only saw the UC and even that is like a 6/10 for me.
  So yea, "not being reassuring" pretty much nails it, don't you think?

Make a crap DCEU movie and market it to death - which is almost guaranteed $700-800m at the box office. Then sell the 'better' directors cut for download online or as DVDs. I agree with you 100%. A farce.

*sigh* I'm going to see the film tomorrow. I will turn my brain off to enjoy it hopefully. I pray that it will be a 6/10 for me at least. By comparison, my ranking of Man of Steel is 5.5/10, the BvS Theatrical cut is about the same, and the UC is a 7/10. Just give me something entertaining. It doesn't have to be "great," or even "good."

The irony with your comment is that you're the bias one and the critics are not. You're like a homophobe who's gay himself, you just have a bunch of hate towards a type of person, and deep down you know you are that type of person so it makes you even angrier lol.

I saw Suicide Squad and can absolutely say it is NOTHING like a Marvel movie. It's getting the bad reviews because it's simply a bad film. Period. There's no denying that, it is a mess. You gotta take those fanboy glasses off and look at it objectively with common sense. To say this movie is the same as a marvel movie, is like saying Independence Day is the same as Power Rangers because both movies they fight aliens, it's just ridiculous.

I saw the movie yesterday and I have to say Im hugely dissapointed at the amount of screentime the joker got (couldnt have been more than 10 minutes). Jared Leto was really GREAT and Im really looking forward to future appearances.

I remember some leaked Canada on-set videos posted here where Harley got slapped by Joker, and also pointed a gun at him. She was wearing the casual blue shirt I believe. Yup, that scenes got cut from the movie.

Bummed they cut so much of Leto's Joker performance. He was great but oh so short in the film. I guess it's because he was deemed too scary? Don't know any other reason. WOuld've loved to have see him in many more scenes.

Warner Bros has in the past ruined many films with changing and cutting scenes.No only did they try to cut and destroy quite possibly the greatest film EVER made, Ken Russell's, THE DEVILS 1972, but still refusing to release it on DVE and letter boxed.You can get it from the BFI, beautiful print, but it's only region 2. It is still regarded Anti Catholicism ,when in fact it might be the true definition of being TRUE TO ONES SELF.

This looks like a patern for WB. They cut a lot of good scenes from BVS, they did it again with suicide squad..it's strange that any directors wants to work with them anymore..why would you put effort in making/directing a good movie when an desk idiot cames and ruins your product and your image? Damn..

Honestly, with BvS being butchered and the same happening to Suicide Squad. No matter the talent involved or how great the trailers looks for future films, whether it be Wonder Woman, Justice League, Flash or Aquaman, I can no longer fully get on board. I mean, it's clearly the studio making poor decisions.
