In 2011 after the release of Batman: Arkham City, Mark Hamill announced that he would retire from voicing The Joker. Later that year, he said the one thing that would bring him back to the role would be an adaptation of Batman: The Killing Joke.

As we know, Hamill didn't stay retired for long. He came back to voice The Joker in Batman: Arkham Knight, and finally got to voice The Joker in Batman: The Killing Joke, which comes out later this month.

So will that be the last time we hear Hamill as The Joker? That's what a fan asked Hamill today on Twitter, and good news! The answer is "no".

That's pretty vague, and perhaps Hamill has a role in the new Batman: Arkham VR game for the PS4, but hopefully this means we'll get to hear his voice as The Joker for many more years to come!

Update: Hamill will also be back as The Joker for the upcoming Justice League Action cartoon!

Batman: The Killing Joke is available for pre-order on Amazon now. The movie hits Digital HD on July 26th, and Blu-ray/DVD on August 2nd. It will premiere at San Diego Comic-Con on July 23rd.

    Great to hear! He's awesome in this role, and he is a much better voice actor than a live action one. I just wonder what more projects he has as the Joker. The arkham vr video game is just a gimmicky demo to hype vr techonology in video games, so I doubt he is in it (also considering the nature of the game itself, which is mostly a detective gameplay mode).

      I hope there will be plenty more. Tho i see him as the quintessential Joker voice Troy Baker also does an amazing Joker imo, tho of course hes just emulating Hamill anyway. But amazingly i think.

    Chris, you posted an article earlier this year announcing Hamill's return as The Joker in JUSTICE LEAGUE ACTION... Scheduled to premiere this Fall at the earliest. Haha... Of course we'll hear him again.

    No offense, but I think he should retire. His best Joker voice was in the DCAU. Now it sounds too gravelly.

      Yeah, I noticed that when he played The Trickster on The Flash the past couple of years. From a quick Googling, he is (or was) a smoker.

      I'm not trying to sound rude, but a lot of people would beg to differ. His voice is still top notch to me.

      Gravel is what makes it so distinct and great. He can do the voice however he wants. He IS the Joker.

    It's not just the fans that love his Joker, Hamill himself has fun with this role. He gets into and really immerses himself into the Jokers character. I feel like he thought Arkham City was the proper role to end his Joker with, given Joker's fate in the game. But Joker's hype isnt going to die for some time, and Hamill's going to continue being just as hyped to be him during that time

    He is the Joker, no doubt about it! I welcome his performance, and I hope he brings many more in the future.

    Its amazing that he found a role, even if it is a voice role, that has transcended him and his career FAR BEYOND that of Luke Skywalker. Now hes great as Skywalker and i think genuinely looks badass as an aged Skywalker, but one could argue that hes just as well known for, or even moreso, for being the voice of the Joker. Poor guy had a hard time finding roles and being typecast after star wars so its awesome that he finally found something just as legendary and again moreso in some circles. Many people dont consider voice actors as being in the same league as a physical actor but him and many others in my opinion have spoken otherwise to the fact. Hes just amazing and has been a huge part of my childhood and entire life for that matter.

    I love Mark's Joker and I am glad he will be doing The Killing Joke. I am also a fan of The Flash, and enjoy him as the Trickster. I do notice, at times his vocal range is at the Jokers sound. It is so great to watch and listen.
