'The LEGO Batman Movie' is a 90-minute Easter egg full of comic and movie references

Collider caught up with The LEGO Batman Movie producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller for an update on the movie. And right off the bat (no pun intended), it sounds like director Chris McKay is the right guy for the job!

"Chris McKay, the director of the movie, is a real Batman aficionado and knows really arcane stuff that was only in one issue of the comic book in 1972, and that sort of thing," Miller said. "And he has a very large Catwoman tattoo on his forearm," Lord added.

So what can fans expect? A giant 90-minute long Easter egg full of references from the comics, all the way up through the movies, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice!

"So, it is chock full of stuff for Batman aficionados. It is just a 90-minute Easter egg," Miller explained. "And it heavily honors the comics. So, it covers all the way through to Batman v Superman," Lord concluded.

The LEGO Batman Movie hits theaters on February 10, 2017.

I think this will really be pleasant. The type of movie that cheers you up when you're feeling really depressed and dimmed.

    It's SOO great. I put it on when I want to be in a good mood. I think it should be up there in the Pantheon of BTAS and JLU. It's just as good but for different reasons and is a loving adaptation of the source material. And they treat every character with respect, even the more silly ones.
    I was late to the party, I didn't watch it when it was on TV and when I finally did, I was kicking myself.

      Lord knows I got jealous every time I heard Meister sing. Though at least I found out that I have something in common with Batman: we're both Baritone.

    I LOVE anytime Aquaman would show up. The episode when he's talking his wife and kid on a trip through Gotham and you hear gun shots, kills me everytime.
    I thought JLU made me love him but this show made me love him even more.

LOVE the sound of this. I have watched the trailers with my kids (5 and 3 y/o) over and over, and OVER again. They can't wait to go watch a Batman movie with dad, and it sounds like they made this one that a bat-dad can really enjoy with the kids!

Good news. People hate what they don't understand. If the many see it from lego figures, let us hope it will aid them on the idea behind 'Dawn of Justice' materializing the source.
