Marvel takes a shot at 'Batman v Superman' in latest comic

As if the beating that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice took from critics wasn't enough, now rival comic company Marvel is piling it on too!

In issue #6 of "Spider-Man/Deadpool", the two heroes go to see a movie. We see a poster for "Nighthawk v Hyperion: Yawn of Bordem" with the tagline "You won't believe their mothers share a first name". Sound familiar?

We then see Spider-Man and Deadpool talking about the movie as they're walking out, and they clearly didn't like it.

To be fair, it appears that Spider-Man is making fun of himself too, referencing all of the reboots he's been through over the years.

      Nope better just on story structure alone. What didn't you like? Out of bvs I didn't like how they went out of their way to make batman and superman not talk to each other. They had some random civilian say to superman " a man like that is beyond words" well that's just lazy writing. Daredevil and punishers roof top exchange puts this movie to shame. They don't explain why superman can't just give the spear to Wonder Woman or just fuckin throw the spear. Snyder try's to take the dark knight returns and the death of superman and mash them together and it was sloppy. The dark knight returns had weight to it because they had known each other for decades. Maybe make a batman movie before you do that. In the dark
      Knight returns when batman is beating the shit out of superman it would take more than a "Martha" to stop him.

        Martha, martha, martha yawn on that commentary when you think they stopped because of Superman yelling Martha we have nothing to talk about anymore. I didn't like the movie, they announced crossbones like a freat villain and they killed him in a second, ironman fight winter soldier because he killed his mom who he never mentioned untill now, zemo one of the worst villains ever, spiderman cringe worthy, movie was full of one liners, bad cgi... and to this idiot who is mentioning money if you go by that

        Have a better relationship with his mom. And considering everyone else but you loved spiderman not sure what t say there besides your loss. And I get it batman realized superman wasn't evil because he has a fuckin mom but regardless to what you say the Martha moment was making people laugh in the theater j saw it in. And Zemo was the villain that Luther should have been just throw away the "cringe" worthy antics of eisenberg and they are the same mastermind just one is way more tolerable. And you never responded to the fact that superman and batman Barely talk: and the fact they in the comics they've known each other for decades so the story actually holds weight.

        Yea and their adaptation felt way more true to the comic because they actually had their heroes talk to each other in length multiple times. Not just superman saying " the bat is dead" like a jack ass. And because they never mention his mom you can't believe it? Unlike batman who is simply reminded of his moms name after he's had decades to deal with the trauma meanwhile iron man had to literally react to both of his parents getting killed in front of him with the footage as a full grown adult. Even if you don't like your parents your gonna react to watching them get killed. But your really lacking when it comes to defending how much the two heroes even talk in he movie. Is that Warner brothers fault or snyders?What about lex making the logos for all the heroes ? That's wicked cool! Thank god for that lex Corp marketing department! really had their eye on the ball there.

        Errrrrr the difference was, cap and Iron man already knew each other well before that movie and were friends, of course they were gonna have more interaction!! There was plenty of motivation in BvS considering Superman an alien had just played a part in destroying half a city and killing half of Bruce Wayne's staff. Watch the ultimate edition if you want the story fleshed out more. It's not Snyders fault the studio took a shit on him and took out numerous parts of his story that helped build up to the main fight.

        I watched the ultimate edition aka directors cut yesterday and it didn't change any of the main problems I had with the theatrical and that's eisenberg and the fact that they only fight for about 6 minutes in a movie sold on batman vs superman. And you just stated a great reason why they should have waited to do this movie. It's so early in their universe they could have easily done a batman movie before this. In the comics when they fight in the dark knight returns they've known each other for decades so it actually means something but Snyder only likes the images so he has two
        Brooding super heroes go against each other and not talk all because a person says " a man like that is beyond words" still didn't like the justice league set up with all the logos convienantly created by lex Corp. it's a long list for me.

        Let's not even talk about how scarlet witch could've finished the entire airport-"war" in a minute and could've held vision down while everyone else on her team escaped.
        She could've ripped out both iron man's and war-machine's circuitry with a click of her fingers. Threw black widow several feet away and black panther several yards away (without hurting him since he can pretty much stand tall while being hit by a machine-gun). All spider-man needed was a hard smack across the face and he was down.
        But then I guess it wouldn't have pleased all the children and man-children in the audience.

        The thing about the logos is that Lex didn't make them. He uses LexOS which scans through the contents of the folder and comes up with a motif. There are images of all the metahumans in costumes. The 'W' for Wonderwoman appears a number of times on her costume and the A.I. of LexOS pulled it off of that. Similarly with the Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg.
        One has to be really dumb (like that reviewer on CinemaBlend) to think Lex took the time to make those logos.

        But it wasn't the marketing department. It was the OS and no, it is not lame. It's a tribute (and not fan-service) to the way DC heroes' costumes have a symbolic motif.

        You don't have to know someone to be like " hey stop fuckin killing people" let alone when Gotham is like a rocks throw away. Daredevil and punisher didn't know each other but they talk at length about their ideals. So supermans Pride got in the way of his mother being kid napped? That's an excuse to fight. Cap is ten times more of a symbol for hope and morals than superman could ever imagine being now. Snyder had him brooding in man of steel so when both him and batman are brooding nothing interesting happens. Like Patton oswalt said " you can't have them all brooding! Only batman gets to brood!" In this universe superman doesn't even know if he wants to save people and barely anyone likes him. They ruined superman by making him emo

        Show that they people actually care about the character as opposed to mainly showing people dislike him
        And him being all sad about it. And marvel didn't get criticisms because they had their symbol of hope in cap and they did his origin justice and got his morals down in one movie. I personally like man of steel but the dude who does " how it should have ended" got it right when he says superman forgot to smile. He had charisma for one scene in bvs and everyone was looking for an Amy Adams nip slip in it.

        The fight between Bat and Supes is not the only action sequence, there's the batmobile the rescue and doomsday which were awesome except the batmobile. And yeah i have faith in dc and i look forward to de strange and gotg 2 but if they keep doing iron man cap and avengers I'm not into it

        I love watching that scene of iron-man landing when rhodes gets shot by vision. It looks like it's straight out of a disney movie (image), or something! He lands and then hops while wobbling left and right.

        Spider-man's CGI was better 14 years ago.
        You can't compare spidey to Doomsday. It's much easier to replicate a fabric rather than organic skin, no matter what lighting.

        Ok I loved Bvs more than Civil War but c'mon. Spider-Man was amazing no pun intended. Best part of the movie, just before Black Panther. Damn. I would have left it alone if you didn't bring my boy Spider-Man into this. And Zemo was one of the MCU's few good villains. IMO Iron Man had as much a reason to fight WS as Batman had to fight Superman, even more. And nice counterargument there, about transformers.

        Unless I got it all wrong, I thought zemo's plan was to tear the avengers apart from within. He wanted to make them kill each other. And that didn't happen. His plan ... failed. I mean, if you're telling me his plan really was to send half the avengers on a vacation to Wakanda and leave tony a "Call me, maybe?!" message all along, then sure he was a great villain.

        The avengers are perfectly intact (only apart) by the end of the movie and literally a phone-call away. That has either got to be the lamest plan in the history of super-villains or the said villain has failed gloriously.

        A failed plan is better than one that succeeded? Well, seeing as you missed a motivation that was spit right at the camera in your very favorite movie, I'm not even surprised you think so.
        This might be too much for your little mind but here it goes:
        Right before Lex initiates the creation of 'the desecration without name', Keelex warns him that it was a forbidden action. An action that was performed before during the prime of Krypton. And we all know Doomsday didn't cause Krypton's doom, their own exploitation of the planet's core did. Clearly indicating there is a way of stopping the creature, a genetic kill-switch that is linked to the Genesis Chamber in which it was birthed. And who 'assumes control' of the Chamber in BvS? Lex Luthor, that's who. He could, as you ironically pointed out, turn it off if he wanted to. And he would if need be.
        The reason he didn't so much as flinch when Doomsday tried to punch him is because he knew Kal-El. He knew Superman would intervene at that moment since he was standing right behind him. And he knew that that resistance to Doomsday's first act would set his infantile mind against Superman. Which would lead him to kill him (how did he know all this? Kryptonian archives, Sherlock). What you're referring to is called 'imprinting' and breast-feeding has nothing to do with. It's most prominently seen in ducklings and ducklings aren't even mammals to have mammaries, aka nipples. (Someone was fast asleep in their science class, obviously).
        One is a genius mastermind considered to be one of the most brilliant beings in his universe and another is an ex-military who lost his family in the previous film's climactic battle. There's no dumber comparison.
        If you give empirical thinking a try, maybe you wouldn't need to be spoon-fed but then that must be your thing. Spoon-feeding and breast-feeding.

        zemo makes the same face throughout the movie and then tears up a little in the end. One can barely call that a performance.
        Considering the fact that he didn't just mash them together, what's your question really? Clue: If it was really an adaptation you'd have seen it in the credits. Taking visual cues from a comic-book doesn't mean you're adapting it. Maybe try watching the movie without preconceptions?
        You'd have to have missed the entire arc of Superman in the movie to ever think he'd work for the President (just because he does in one of the comic-books).         Meanwhile, since 2008, DC has only produced eight films based on their comic book franchises, if you include The Losers and Jonah Hex. And only two pairs of these films were interconnected, while Green Lantern was a flop.
        Here's Spielberg's quote in full:

        Spielberg doesn't "criticize" Marvel, but he does say that they won't be around because their stories will "be supplanted by some other genre." Basically calling their movies a fad, which is really not that far from calling them "flavor-of-the-week."
        Zack Snyder comments on this prediction by arguing that Batman and Superman are mythologies in and of themselves and that they can continue to weather through changes in public interest as they have for nearly a century.
        Yes, by doing so he places Batman and Superman on a higher pedestal than Antman.
        How rude of him not to treat all superhero characters the same, regardless of their (lack of) historical/cultural significance!
        Yes, in an interview Snyder called Antman "flavor of the week." But, especially in context, I fail to see how that's nearly as insulting as Marvel **publishing** a comic book that essentially says "BvS was boring and nonsensical."
        So again, Zack doesn't criticize Marvel. He could have said, "Flavor of the week stories are stupid, mindless fluff. No one should watch them." Rather, he says that they just aren't culturally significant (note that a movie doesn't need to be culturally significant to be great. Before Man of Steel, Zack usually made flavor-of-the-week movies, himself), and that unlike the non-historically/culturally-significant superheroes like Antman, Batman and Superman will definitely not go away when the public inevitably grows tired of superhero movies.
        Not all that rude a thing to say, especially considering he is the guy in charge of these DC movies, so he ought to believe in what he's working on.
        And, in all likelihood, he'll prove to be right in the long run.

        Spielberg has nothing to do with this discussion because A) Spielberg's comment is NOT in any way directed at Marvel; nowhere does he even refer to them, and the only way they're involved is by association to the genre. And in that sense it is directed as much toward DC as Marvel, especially in light of all the movies WB/DC has planned this far in; they're the ones who prompted people to question if the audience would get sick of watching comic book movies. B) Spielberg's comments are NOT even close as pointed as Snyder's. He didn't call comic book movies "flavor of the week", no matter how much you reach on that limb. If he were, he'd be calling "The Good, the bad and the Ugly" (as well as every western he's participated in) as "culturally insignificant", by comparing both genres. I very much doubt that's how he sees either genre.
        You're trying too hard to make Snyder's comments seem more innocuous than Spielberg's, even when it is Snyder who dismissed Marvel's work. No one is saying he has to consider Batman and Antman the same, but you know very well it's his direct dismissal of Marvel's work that's being pointed out; stop conflating the two. You're really making some mental contortion to soften a blow that, if it were directed at a DC movie, you'd just as well consider it a diss.

They might have crossed a line here. BvS wasn't flawless but it got some stuff right. Look at all the terrible decisions Marvel made in the late 90s and early 2000s.

        Well if you actually look at the start of this thread, I firstly stated this: "You're in SEVERE (and hilarious) denial if you really can't find anything good about Batman v Superman." That's a largely agreed-upon opinion, even amongst major critics of the film. Most people thought Batman and Wonder Woman were incredible, not to mention the acting and the cinematography.
        Secondly, I made a claim that Batman v Superman: the Ultimate Edition was a very good movie and is virtually immune to criticism concerning plot holes and characterization. (That claim isn't me saying its a perfect movie, just that to complain about its perfectly-acceptable standard of quality it is to be either ignorant or INSANELY anal. You'd have to believe that a whole lot of movies are also utter trash to think that a movie with BvS: Ultimate Edition's quality is trash.)
        So yes, I am bringing the focus back to the Ultimate Edition because that's the only one I care about, and it's the only one I was ever arguing in favor of, only you won't debate me on ITS merits because you know you'd LOSE.

        I argued in favor of BvS in response to the above guy saying it had nothing good about it whatsoever. I probably should have just ignored it. Couldn't help myself.
        Many complaints about the theatrical version were valid, I understand that. But I'm eager to show support for the original, intended cut.
        Now, my problem with this Deadpool joke is I think it's an unprofessional, immature jab (at a movie that's already been crucified aplenty.) I don't appreciate it because this is a hobby that already has enough accusations of immaturity leveled at it to begin with. Do we really need this? Is this helping anybody? I think infighting is dumb to begin with, but I definitely think it should stay out of published creative works by either company. And I don't care that it's Deadpool saying it.
        Others are totally free to disagree, of course. I know my annoyance at it won't change anything.

        I think most people understand it for what it is...a parody. Furthermore, people are focusing on the one jab the comic takes at DC toward the end, when the fact is, if you read the whole comic, you can see Marvel taking shots at their OWN movies many more times. If you think any use of the comic medium as comedy is beyond it, you're taking this comic book business way too seriously. Not all movies have to be gritty thrillers; not all shows have to be dramas. And not all comics have to be serious.

        I recall interviewing Denny O'Neil about 9-10 yrs ago & touch upon that saga. He stated part of the genesis of the saga was to see how fans responded to a more violent Batman.

      Hey dude, chill out already. We get you didn't enjoy the film. The only "objective" thing that can be said about the movie is that it polarized both fans and critics. Some hailing it, some calling it ok, and others calling it trash. In that sense, you'll always find people with varying opinions, and nothing you'll ever say will prevent them for liking what they like. Yes, the film did dissapoint at the box office, and its reception wasn't what WB had expected, but the film did build a fanbase, wether you like it or not, so it's not an entire failure. In my eyes, BvS did have some merits, the visuals and the action for example, but the characterizations were bland, particularly Superman, and the plot made little sense whatsoever, not to mention the editing was completely messed up. An entertaining film, but a fataly flawed one as well.
      Oh and by the way, have you seen the Ultimate Edition? I know we're judging the Theatrical cut here, but that extended cut fixes almost every plot hole existent in the movie, and improves the pace and editing. In other words, the narrative improves substantially, up to the point it actually converted some of the film's biggest naysayers. Look up the reviews if you don't believe me and give it a shot if you haven't yet. In a worst case scenario, your general view on the film won't change, but at least you'll find it more coherent and competently made. For me, this cut elevated the film's score from a 6/10 to a 8/10. This cut is far more apt to compete against Civil War in my opinion.

    Why? Although I personally don't find anything wrong with Marvel making fun of BvS.. I have to agree with his statement. Deadpool has got to be one of the most mediocre, over-hyped and overrated (this word gets thrown a lot, but Deadpool actually fits the bill) comic book characters.
    The only reason people like him is because of the pre-pubescent humor and 4th wall breaking. I have read so many Deadpool comics and I lost track of how many times I have rolled my eyes. He has maybe a handful of actual good comics.
    Personally, I think people should start dropping all these childish Deadpool comics and start picking up a red suited character with actual good stories: Daredevil. Point is, I strongly agree with his comment. There is nothing wrong with the jab at DC but the character begs for attention and the only way it can do it is by screaming:

        I've read Civil War 2. And although it's no where near as bad as some of these people claim it is, it certainly isn't on par with Rebirth. I personally like it, but not as much as Rebirth. So yes, you can say that "everyone is praising Civil War 2" but it wouldn't be accurate. It's like me trying to argue that MoS got better reviews than GoTG. Give me a break.
        It's hilarious how butthurt you get just because DC has something out that many consider better than anything Marvel has out at the moment. I for one don't care, back when the lineup had just started, I had no problem saying that Marvel was crushing it with Thor. It was and is one of the best story-lines I have read in a long time.
        At this moment in time, DC is crushing it with Rebirth, big deal, get over it. Next year maybe Marvel will be crushing it. Who cares. Just give me good comic book story arcs. It's so easy to tell which one of you are MCU fanboys and which are actual comic book fans.

Lol they should stop, I think DC dominates in both Comics & Animation & and Captivating heroes I can honestly say they are taking ground in the movie world but aside from all that DC rules the Gaming Community, Comic, and Animation

  What do you mean by rules? They sell and make more money from games and animated properties (I think, because dc has barely a cartoon on air at the moment, and marvel has various, but dc releases more animated movies, which don't make that much money, but are profitable), but Marvel absolutely destroys them in comic book sales, every month.

  Be more specific on Animation you mean movies? Lately DC on animated tv shows are proving to be disappointment since YJ been cancelled. DC doesn't rule on the comics either but Marvel is starting to slip (diversity push) and DC is fixing things with Rebirth.

Why can't I block a bunch of trolls on this page, I thought I had the option to block all the trolls I wanted but it seems that I am only able to block just a few of then. This is a big problem because this website is infected with many trolls and makes it difficult to read the comments with all the stupid people in here. Batman-News please answer my question and let me know what the problem could be. I don't want to stop coming to this great page just because of bunch of morons that love to pick figths and insult people.

The bad and sad thing is that there are people who'll take this seriously. They'll trash and bash BvS even more. I get that it's Deadpool and he makes fun of pretty much everything, but when someone hates BvS with passion, will shit on it even more now. Even though the Ultimate Edition was great.

What do I think? I that maybe if Marvel focused on good storytelling in their comics instead of taking cheap shops, they could actually compete with Rebirth ;p DC is killing it right now.

  Marvel is actually ahead of DC in both monthly sales + profits...not what I'd call "killing it".

    The Rebirth issue was number 1 when it was released, beating Civil War 2 (a convoluted mess). Not to mention that Marvel's sales are also bolstered by Star Wars and Darth Vader which, although they are insanely popular, I don't consider part of the specific 'Superhero' genre I am talking about. Not to mention the fact that Marvel consistently pulls BS, cheap plot twists specifically to sell more (Captain America being Hydra, gender swapping heroes, replacing heroes, killing others off). DC is clearly going a different route now that Rebirth has taken off.
    And fyi, I meant that they're killing it in terms of quality. Every Rebirth issue released has been great and has been high quality (bar a few exceptions). Marvel hasn't been putting out consistently good material for a while now.

        And as I said, Marvel is more extroverted as a company. That doesn't make their titles as good as the Rebirth ones.

        The use of the word "killing it" denotes an emphatic performance, as if DC has a substantial and undisputable marked superiority over competitors. He didn't say "I think DC is doing better"...THAT would be an opinion.

        What a drama queen. "killing it" means that they are doing a magnificent job with their product. If you take that as "Marvel sucks, DC rocks" then that's your problem. As a matter of fact, I stand by his comment. DC is killing it with Rebirth. Going to cry some more?
