Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition was released on Digital HD services like iTunes, VUDU, and Google Play today. If you haven't been able to watch it yet, you're in luck! You can catch a 10 minute preview right here.

Fandango's YouTube channel has uploaded what they call an "extended preview" of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition. But really, it's just the first 10 minutes of the movie.

New footage here includes an extra shot or two during the Wayne murder opening, and new shots of Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne speeding through the streets of Metropolis during the Man of Steel battle.

I just can't justify $20 on the digital version when I pre ordered the Steel Book Blu Ray from Best Buy. $45 would be way too much to spend on a movie. I'll have to suffer for another 3 weeks.

      Amazon. I usually get the best quality from them. Plus, I'm guessing the free digital copy with the Blu-ray will be for other providers so I'll have it everywhere.

  Agree. When I was watching this movie for the first time I literally believed that I was going to be watching the best comic book movie ever. The first ten minutes of this movie to me was a masterpiece of music and cinematography. Zack can be great at times, there's no denying that!

Max Landis rightfully pointed out something interesting -- this is the only version of Bruce's Parents' death where it's their own fault. Look closely and you'll see that the only reason the robber shoots is because Thomas attempts to tackle and disarm him. And why? Because to Snyder's mind, peacefully surrendering and living is for pussies, and dying is for heroes -- M. Landis.

        Well, judging by this presentation, it's quite possible that they wouldn't have died. Had Thomas not tried to tackle the robber, he might not have shot him and Martha.

        That doesn't matter. It's a movie with Batman! It's going to happen. So what that Thomas tried to stop the shooter, what would you do? It's a comic movie and you are allowed to break logic and defy gravity. Let it be, it's Batman's origin so regardless it going to happen.

        I respect that. :) I personally don't know how I would react. As for the movie, I liked that Thomas Wayne tried to protect his family because you read in previous renditions of the origin that they were murdered and just stood there just scared. He acted because that's who he was.

        But he doesn't have to be that. This is not being a hero, this is being irresponsible. Was he some trained black belt? No, he was a doctor. Why would he think he'd succeed in disarming the robber? His heroism was in saving people on his surgery table.
        And this is what Landis was getting at -- for Snyder, everyone needs to be an active/aggressive hero.

        Even in this video, most of the scenes showed the Waynes not choosing to confront the gun man, and unfortunately, they were still killed.

        Whatever the story has designed for their death (underground plotting, Crime Alley - being there at the wrong time, etc.), it is constructed into the kind of story the creators have planned for Bruce Wayne growing up from that, and how he reacts to that iconic tragedy.
        As for this case (Batman v Superman), I disagree on Snyder showing Thomas Wayne trying to be a hero, but more of wanting to take action to protect his loved ones. He just might have seen as many deaths from gun wounds (as a doctor), and he would not feel comfortable in not wanting to do something to make sure his family could have a chance of living.
        This also inspires this kind of Bruce Wayne to be as confrontational and cynical as ever, not allowing a criminal get as far as being able to live to see the judicial system (with the branding of the Batman symbol). Finally, Snyder might have gone with this direction as to differentiate his take compared to the others, that had the Waynes hope on good fortune and not having their lives taken, when it has been done so much in the film cinema.

        The robber was aiming his gun at the Wayne family, he tried to protect them, and his sudden movement caused the robber to shoot.... Just like when in Batman Begins the robber points the gun to Martha and Thomas in a quick movement put hinself between the gun and his wife, and that sudden movement caused the robber to shoot.

        Yes, and I liked that version best. I can relate to jumping in front of my wife or child. If I was alone and a mugger pulled a gun on me, I'd be furious and rush him (I've bluffed unarmed muggers before), but if I were a husband/father, that's a different story.

        What if it wasn't a robber at all? What if it was an assassination given he just shot the father. Then shot the passive mother for no reason. And he took nothing from both of them. Thomas Wayne could have realized exactly what was going on. It's all speculation but there's nothing illogical about it if you are willing to give the filmmakers an inch

  I saw it as instinct act, you either have a reaction of run or fight... and seeing his family was being in danger of being shot, he fought to defend them, he is a husband and father trying toprotect his family that all... made the whole scene touching for the first time (at least for me), the other versions were meh.

    In Batman Begins, Ra's al Ghul made a speech about how the Waynes' deaths were Bruce's father's fault, about how he didn't have the resolve to fight back for his family. And here when he did fight for his family, people complain. I just don't get it

      People will always find something to complain about, this Thomas Wayne is braver and more agressive, just like Bruce, while in Nolan's universe Bruce was equally as brave but his father was a very passive man, which I never liked. This new Thomas could actually be used as an awesome Batman if they ever make a.flashpoint adaptation.

      That's a false comparison. You are comparing what a fictional character says IN a movie, to what real-life moviegoers are saying. I don't think anybody in real life minded how Thomas handled the mugging in Begins. He did exactly the right things.

    You don't "defend" your family by aggravating the guy who's already pointing a gun at them. That's just reckless irresponsibility. IMO, Batman Begins is the best version, and it has the advantage of actually characterizing Thomas Wayne before his death scene.

      I prefer that too. In all honesty there really is no right or wrong answer. If it were me, I would tell my wife to run with my son while I essentially use my body to defend them. I know there are stories where the robbers will leave after they get what they want but then there are stories that go the other direction. Ultimately the one who is always in the wrong is the robber, never the victim(s).

  I always wondered if this was a response to Ra's al Ghul's criticism of Bruce's fathers in "Batman Returns". That he didn't take action. Of course he does here and it gets him and his wife killed anyway.
  Personally I do wish Snyder hadn't decided he needed to do his own version of this scene. I'm sure it's just my opinion, but it's been done to death.

    I believe they only did it again to add weight to the 'You're letting him kill Martha' scene.

      By his own version I meant he felt the need to put this scene on film..A Zack Snyder film. And while I probably agree with your reason why it's there; you could have had the same effect by having him remember JUST the robbery/shooting at some point (maybe with the scene in front of his mothers crypt) and not the whole walking through "Time Square" in the early 80s, funeral, running, falling in the cave, and floating among bats scene :)
      (BTW is all that in the comic, I forget.)

        It's just the shooting from the comic-book but much like in the movie, it keeps cutting between Bruce in Wayne Manor and the TV. A bat crashes through a window. And like in the comic-book it's a recollection of the event (or a dream) rather than how it actually happened. It's looking at it through the eyes of the young Bruce.
        Well, I think the crypt-scene was about how the 'bat' part of Batman overtook the 'man'. It's very well established that the 'bat' signifies fear and vengeance. I really don't think it was Man-bat.
        And the Wayne funeral visually brings Superman's funeral in a full-circle when the movie ends. Even the shells from the 21-gun salute and the Wayne-murders have a similar visual take.

  Max Landis is right. I got a lot of shit just for saying the Batman Begins version is better, but it is. I liked that Thomas's last words were "Bruce . . . Don't be afraid", because literally EVERY Batman story is about fear. But Synder needed to establish that Mrs. Wayne's name was Martha, and he was none too subtle about it. So now his last words needed to be "Martha . . . ."
  (Ironically, Martha Wayne is never a major character in any Batman movie. Though Bruce lost both his parents, it seems to be only Thomas who has any personality whatsoever.)
  I also felt his use of slow-motion was off the mark. Bruce's childhood ended in a few quick and brutal seconds. It should be over before we realize it, not stretched out to maximum length. And the pearls -- god damn it -- are the pearls really ALL THAT meaningful? Do we really need to dwell on each individual pearl?

  I agree with that criticism of the Thomas Wayne death (in both BvS and The Dark Knight Returns), but it's not anywhere near as awful as the changes Synder made to Johnathon Kent's death in Man of Steel.
  The Johnathon Kent heart attack scene in Superman: The Movie was powerful because it was so common and mundane, and there was nothing even Superman could do to stop it ("All those powers, and I couldn't save him.") Synder messed it all up by trying to make Kent a badass action hero who dies by running into a tornado to save a stupid dog, then instructs his son, who has super speed, not to help him. It took an emotional death scene that anyone could relate to and made it into a generic action movie cliche.

The opening to this film is the best first 10 minutes I've ever seen. I get such a crazy feeling each time I see it. They are really smart showing people this. I don't know how you could not watch this movie after seeing that first 10 minutes.

In the extended cut, that damn African lady got more screen time than Wonder Woman! Where's HER action-figure?! LOL I would've thrown out that entire subplot, and just showed some more Superman action scenes, before his showdown with Batman.

  No, the African woman actually mattered to the plot, and the Ultimate Edition resolves that properly. I would certainly have liked more Wonder Woman, but I'd rather they cut out the "world-building" stuff that only matters for future movies, if they had to cut anything.

murder of the Waynes is the best scene in any movie so far in 2016 (not counting action scenes but even than this scene is so powerful and emotional so it has to be one of the best ever) and possibly one of the best opening scene for a comicbook

  What they gave us in theatres was "The Greed Cut". The Ultimate Edition is what should have been released. The reviews would have been MUCH better. Still mixed, but the RT rating would be higher than 29%. They kept all the world-building junk in it, but destroyed the pacing and character development. So, yeah, fuck WB for the theatrical Greed Cut.

Some of my major complaints about the Theatrical Version was it's pacing was incredibly bad. It missed a beat and pulse. Character motivations were off. It felt like a lot of ideas were put into a blender with no flow or coherence. If you had these same issues with it, then you NEED to watch the Ultimate Cut to have any say on if the movie is bad or good. It changes the story entirely and comes across as a whole different movie. A lot of the above issues are solved or makes more sense. It doesn't solve everything but it's a great improvement.

Warner Bros. I hope you are listening. It's entirely your fault that this movie wasn't as good as it could have been. Focus on story first, not the turnover of butts in the seats and the amount of minutes. If it's 3 hours, let it be 3 hours.
