Sure, but it was so needlesly dark, especially with Superman, and so depressing that it didn't even make sense. And applaud it's darkness all you want, and I do admit the film was bold, but the movie was mediocre. Just because it did something different, doesn't make it good.

    What I'm happy about:

    - It all sounds good. It really does. But WB never had to convince me to go see this film opening weekend. My ticket was basically already bought. At least twice over. I dig what Snyder is doing. I'm glad he's still around.

    What I'm not happy about:

    - The seemingly complete lack of Superman.

    What I'm excited about:

    - The seemingly complete lack of Superman. I'm with Sean, I don't want to wait until act 3 to see Superman show up, but the fact that I know nothing about how he will come back is great. I've always maintained I wanted to see something new, to be surprised, and MoS and BvS both surprised me in some amazing ways, and I hope they surprise me with Superman's return. Really, I just don't want to sleepwalk my way through a DC film the way I've done through some others. (**cough cough, X-Men Apocalypse, cough cough**)

    What I'm hoping for:

    - Superman comes back changed. I think if he doesn't come back changed, then his death meant nothing. I like the Superman we've gotten so far, but I want to love him. (That sounded wrong. Or, did that sound right?)
    - Don't reveal everything in the trailers.

    What I'm expecting:

    - I don't know. Too early to really say. I'll see how I feel after seeing Suicide Squad and seeing what is being offerred at Comic Con.

I haven't heard anything about a mocap suit, but I have definitely heard talk of Supes coming back a bad guy. I certainly hope that's not true. I don't know how they would cram him being a bad guy, then getting turned back and then being part of the league all in the third act. Snyder had his fun. He's had two movies to bring us the Superman he wanted, and while I liked it and appreciated it for the story he was telling, going forward, I want old Supes back. But yeah, totally agree with what you said about Supes becoming just a plot device and nothing more.

I do think Superman will come back changed though, and I am expecting him to be the Supes we all know and love. If we take what Snyder has already done, with the major emphasis on Superman as the Christ character - MoS, BvS, JL (Birth, death, resurrection), the final part is Supes coming back as the savior. I don't recall Jesus being a prick when he came back, lol. Supes already went through a big change at the end of BvS right before he died. Up until that time, he had been quite selfish, with Lois as the center of his world, but in the end, he finally does what Superman would do, which is sacrifice everything, even his own happiness, to get it done. So they already took a big step in the right direction. If he comes back as sad bastard Supes again, then it not only undoes his character arc in BvS, but it renders pointless one of the few salvageable things from BvS for the mainstream audience. I really don't think they'll make that mistake. At least I hope not. But then, I didn't think they'd make the mistake of cramming too much into BvS but they did anyway, so who knows? I guess we'll find out in 18 months.

It's called a flying fox because the flying fox is the largest bat in the world and the vehicle is quite large.

I can't listen to this cause it will probably just piss me off but are they complaining because of the name or just questioning it lol?

No complaining. They speculated that it could have come from Lucious Fox. It's a great episode. You should listen!

They were just wondering where the name come from, thought it may be a nod to Lucius Fox.

Well yes, if you have the two greatest superheroes in your universe fighting each other, it should be a dark time. BvS was the Return of the Jedi of the trilogy so far, and I expect JL to be much, much lighter. Maybe not Ewoks-light, but it already seems way more "fun." But even though I respectfully - and even vehemently - disagree with Sean and Adam about their opinions on BvS, I think you should listen to the rest. I think the key thing these guys say, is that deconstruction of superheroes is fine, but you need to build something first in order to break it down.

I did laugh at your comment about "pleasant mediocrity." I've always said in the past that I will reward art that takes risks over "safe" art any day of the week. Even if the movie strikes out half the time, if the other half of the time it hits some home runs, I'm good. And that's what BvS for me was. A movie with faults, but with big ideas and it swung for the fences every minute of every scene. It was a joy to watch, to be surprised every few minutes by something. That's why when Civil War came out, it was so annoying. I mean it was fine, but it wasn't even close to being even Marvel's best film. That film made some similar mistakes that BvS made, but nobody took them to task for it, because hey, Tony said "underoos!" and Spidey is back home! For me, the biggest problem with the MCU is the lack of willingness to take risks. It's just so... vanilla. Marvel has basically been making the same movie three times a year, for years now. Years. I already feel like I know what will happen in these movies. But people love it. And I can't fault them for loving it. Cause hey, vanilla ice cream is still ice cream, you know what I mean?

Hard for Zack Snyder to leave Justice League when it started filming 2 weeks after BvS opened.

Well said Bro. I always think when someone says that the movie was too dark, I always ask them find me something light and funny about the situation that the characters are in. Yes superman means hope but his characteristics change continously in the comics based on the authors interpretation. You don't have to like it sure, but all I ask is that u respect it and understand it. I have a buddy who said he didn't like this version of batman, but he understand what he is going through in this film and its cool. I didn't question him because it was his preference for a character, but he understood the situation so aint nuthin there but respect kid.

Chris Begley, why didn't they invite you to the set of Justice League. You deserve to be there more than other who've been there.

    1. pud333 Avatar

I listened to the Total Geekall podcast, and one of the guys was invited to go. He said it started out a very small group of people, with WB contacting them asking them specifically to come on. They wanted critics who, apparently, gave BvS a fair shake, gave it a chance, but ultimately didn't like it. He said these PR people had ready everything. Everything. When he said "Oh, so and so would be better to go" they said, "We've read his stuff." He said these guys knew everything about anything he has written or tweeted, etc. Same for the other critics. Looks like WB really did their profiling. Really, this was a great move by WB, especially lifting the embargo so soon. Everything I've read so far was pretty much positive all around. The guy said WB wanted to lift the embargo earlier, but was convinced to hold off a day or two because of how Game of Thrones would be trending after the Battle of the Bastards. (Which, by the way, was the greatest swords and shields battle I have ever seen filmed.)

      1. flashpointparadox Avatar
        flashpointparadox

Have'nt redd/listened Total Geekall yet. If this is the approach for better reviews than hope too god that this *ckers rate this movie good when it comes out.

        1. pud333 Avatar
          pud333

Well, the end product will dictate reviews most likely, not the PR trip 18 months out. That said, it's nice to see WB be inclusive. When they announced the DC slate originally, they did it at a shareholder's meeting or something. That's about as far from fan friendly as you can get. Certainly doesn't hurt they're being more inclusive, so fingers crossed they produce a great movie.

That's why i didn't have a problem with the dark tone and this is DC Comics not Marvel but what my issue is now is that i wanna see a whole movie this time at the theater not just a part, i hope they learned about their mistakes. Batfleck will supervise now as an EP for the editing or execution of JL i guess otherwise i'm afraid they will make the same mistake.

    1. ernest schoenmakers Avatar
      ernest schoenmakers

Probably? i'm sure she isn't in it, they cut talented actresses from the big screen and they give all the credits to a not talented actor like Eisenberg. Snyder's brain is full of logic.

    2. Daniel Moshee Avatar
      Daniel Moshee

Ben Affleck is an EP simply due to the fact that he's going to direct one of DCEU movies (we all know what/which movie it is). Read his answer when asked by journalists who went to London. So, JL is still going to be Zack Snyder's movie. Like him or not (I like him), he's still going to take DCEU to direction which he wants (which I also like and approve). Get over it and move on.

      1. ernest schoenmakers Avatar
        ernest schoenmakers

I'm not moving on are you stupid???? The theatrical cut had to be the Ultimate Edition where everything made sense again regarding the connection between the scenes, with this knowledge they can do it right this time and Batfleck and Johns are gonna see to that, do you think this is coincidence?

When Superman comes back, what is going to happen to Clark? Does he pretend to have amnesia or does he just live on the Kent farm with Lois kinda like the current Rebirth?

I personally don't think Clark Kent in the traditional sense is coming back. I think they're going in new, unexpected directions with the character.

Wanted to give my thoughts on Superman's role in JL. I don't think he'll physically return until the second half, but he could play a role in the first half by introducing a "For The Man Who Has Everything" type of plot thread. As Superman "recovers" (we know he's not dead from the end of BvS), he's in a dreamlike state and is reflecting on his life and the man he wants to be if and when he comes back. Builds his character and gives him something to do while Batman struggles to put the team together in a Superman-less world.

I kinda agree, I think people that are excited are not showing cos then then we have to deal with a rain of haters, which probably are gonna go watch JL anyway. I just can't wait to watch all of these awesome films.

If you guys really think that you need to wait until the fifth or sixth film in a series before you can deconstruct characters then you must have hated "The Empire Strikes Back" since they did the exact same kinds of reconstruction in their second part.

    1. neodymium Avatar
      neodymium

agreed. i hate this ideology. people hated the movie because apparently Zack hadnt constructed Superman or batman's character to begin with.

Its a fucking story. Zack can start the damn thing wherever he pleases. He established supes as a young new superhero doubting himself and Batman as a grizzled seasoned veteran on the verge of losing himself. You dont need a series of movies to construct this just to tell the story. Simpletons. Smh

Are you guys going to give your thoughts on the BVS extended edition? Also, I just want to say that I think my favorite episodes you guys did were some of the ones in the beginning where you talked about the best Batman and Joker moments. Do you ever plan on doing something like that again? I'm not sure if this is on your schedule at all but I would also love to hear your thoughts about some of the animated DC movies, such Under the Red Hood or the Dark Knight Returns. Another thing I would love to hear are your thoughts your favorite Batman The Animated Series episodes.
