  Big difference between creative projects that went through development hell and creative projects that are taking extra time deliberately.
  But definitely two funny examples.
  Can't wait for this. I've always admired Affleck as a writer and director, thanks to Good Will Hunting, Argo and The Town. It was Gone Girl that showed me his maturity as an actor, and BvS where he did the best role of his career in my opinion. The Batman I've always wanted to see my entire life - minus the killing part, but hey, not like it's the first Batman movie to do that.

I like it. It means he is putting the quality and artistic integrity first. Same as Hugh Jackman, who refused to shoot his final Wolverine movie before he was 100 % happy with the script.

But he didn't have a complete control over those movies though there is a bit of difference, Affleck has a lot of control over the project.

Loved Wolverine 2013, the third act was a let down, but it was a great CBM overall

Sounds good. 2018 sounds like it's a long time away. Focusing on Justice League and Live By Night will be hard. I trust that Affleck, as an Oscar winner, and seasoned writer, with Johns, will deliver one of the more compelling comic book movie scripts of all time.

Not sure about Johns though. He has a very good handle on almost every major A-list character - except Batman.

    especially the Earth One novels proved that Johns is much much more at home with scifi based characters like Flash, GL, Legion, JSA or even Aquaman. That more down to earth, gritty, realistic stuff just really isn´t his forte.

      Oh most definitely. Maybe this Batman project could help him hone in and learn from Affleck so that later on help could help write other scripts for the DCEU. Shazam, Justice League 2 maybe?

This is why Ben is perfect for DC Films. He understands that quality is the most important aspect of a movie. Not length, not the money it brings in, not "fan service." It's quality.

  Yeah give us a Carrie Kelley movie, that part was missing in BvS which was a big part from Frank Miller's TDKR. Remember the girl who fought with Bats in the Knightmare sequence.

  Definitely, Robin is the great overlooked character. I think they don't know how to deal with a grown man and a young boy being a team, but they should do it 100% authentic and just let the audience deal with it. The trick is casting a child actor who isn't hateable. But I don't want any "young adult" versions that are practically Nightwing already, trying to butt heads with Batman.
  Carrie Kelley would be okay, but Dick Grayson is the legend. If they could start him at 12 and build up to his adult Nightwing career, and it was GOOD? That'd be a tremendous achievement!

That is great to hear that he really cares about the entire project, and wanting it to be as strong as possible. With that being said, I do hope he doesn't over think it, and create it just right toward his standards.

I'm totally fine with this. It's not like we have to wait until his solo movie to see Batfleck, so the fact that he takes his time and sets his standards so high makes me happy. Ben Affleck is one the few directors working today who has a natural sense for pacing and balance between all of the elements that make a good movie. He also did say something about focusing on the detective aspect of the Batman mythos, which is pretty similar to making neo-noir crime thrillers which also happen to be his strengths. This and the Aquaman movie are the two DCEU films that I never worry about.

His comments aren't disappointing AT ALL. A late October 2018, or 2019 release date, gives him plenty of time. He just knows that he better not f*ck sh!t up, after Nolan. As long as the story isn't terrible, incorporating some of the fan-favorite Batfamily characters, will help 'The Batman' succeed immensely.

I'm okay with waiting a little for another Batman movie - hopefully Bruce cameos or guest stars in other movies to make up for the wait.

Though as I said before, I think an adaptation of Under the Hood would be a great progression from the events of BvS - but given its going to be latter, maybe a Bat family film? We haven't got that yet (and no Batman and Robin DOES NOT COUNT!).

The positive reaction to the BvS UC, Suicide Squad and the JL reveals seems like the DCEU may be on the upswing. Fingers crossed.

I want an awesome next 10 years of the big screen where we see the entire JL, a proper GLC movie, a New Avengers movie and more Batman and Spider-Man.

  Yeah..but even the original project will have parts of Batman's mythos in there...they're actually so deep they can introduce Damien now and it will fit. Original never means reworking the entire thing - just telling a new story with established portions of the mythos.
  I thought Under the Hood would be a good introspection after BvS given its clear that Bruce's actions are influenced a little by Todd's death. So, despite there being a swerve in Bruce actually killing - the film could actually address this properly (which BvS didn't) and showcase a Bruce trying to find himself back while fighting off past mistakes and horrors.

      Given it got particularly mentioned that it was Todd who died and there may be an extended scene of his death down the line, can't rule out portions of that story arc getting adapted someday.
      But whatever originality does come, I'm just hoping for a Batman film that brings to life his best comic book aspects. All due respect to Nolan's awesome trilogy, we still haven't gotten than - and Ben is our best chance at finally reaching there.
      So waiting and hoping.

Zack explained why he really killed Jimmy Olsen in an Empire Podcast. It's to prepare us for how cynical his world is, which can't work when we didn't know he was Jimmy.

  If it was based on Long Halloween, it would have to be a prequel. Hush would be very good (Matt Damon would be a great Hush!). Or we could have a Red Hood storyline with several of the Rogues. I would love to see a done-right version of Penguin, Riddler, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, as well as Black Mask, Hugo Strange, Clayface, and Mad Hatter. However, I feel Ra's/Talia al Ghul (and the League of Assassins for that matter), Scarecrow, Bane, and Two-Face should be easter-egged only, as TDK trilogy nailed them enough that I don't need to see them again on the big screen. I also really, REALLY want to see a Batman vs Croc moment, especially if it's not CGI-based.

For me, any villains that don't include Ra's/Talia al Ghul (or the League of Assassins for that matter), Scarecrow, Bane, or Two-Face. Even though TDK trilogy versions aren't 100% faithful, I still think they were done justice enough in that trilogy, so I don't want to see them here. I wouldn't mind a few easter eggs or name drops of them though!
As for villains/supporting characters that SHOULD be in the solo Batman film, I would pick:
Joker
Harley Quinn
Catwoman
Nightwing
Oracle
Azreal (maybe)
One Metahuman villain, preferably Croc again or maybe Clayface
One intellectual villain, either Riddler done right or Mr. Freeze done right
One wildcard villain that has a backstory related to Bruce, either Hush or Red Hood
One Mafia villain, either Penguin done right or Black Mask
One crazy villain that relies on mind-related stuff, either Poison Ivy or Mad Hatter

Misleading a little. I know those were his words about being "not happy" with the script, but as a professional he really means that he's just not 100% satisfied, yet. Saying "not happy" kind of makes it seem like he's upset with how it turned out and it needs to be canned or something. Either way, I'm sure however long it takes will be totally worth it!
