DC Comics relaunches tomorrow with the release of "DC Universe: Rebirth #1" by Geoff Johns, and Warner Bros. just posted a short video on Facebook of Ben Affleck hyping it up.
"I would read anything by Geoff Johns. F*cking genius, I love him," Affleck said. "I love DC, I'm really excited about where it's going, and I couldn't be more honored and thrilled to be on board and part of this DC universe."
Just last night, Geoff Johns confirmed that he is working on Ben Affleck's solo Batman movie.

Again, the number of times Batman has killed in the last 70 years is low. It's not the norm, which is why it takes the general audiences back when they see it.

Subjective I'd say. People complained about Batman & Robin and it's silliness. There were more years of Batman being in that tone then there were years of him being a killer. I'd be surprise if it's more then 2% of Batman's 75+ year history where he's killing people. That's far from the norm of the character, I believe that's why people were complaining.
This Batman isn't a cold blooded killer, either. He's just someone who will hit back as hard as he gets hit.
Case in point: When Batman is defending himself from 4 guys in the warehouse scene he gets stabbed in the shoulder. What does he do in retaliation? He stabs the gang member in the exact spot he stabbed Batman.
If you shoot at him with gatling guns and shoulder mounted rockets... You should expect he'll return fire in kind. Bruce even says to Alfred they've always been criminals, and that he's tired of taking criminals down, only to see them continually grow like weeds. So now he responds to criminals in their own language, proportionally.
THAT is the Batman we got in BvS. Not a mass murdering psychopath that the movie's detractors would have you believe him to be.
I haven't seen BvS, but if that was the norm for Batman in the comic books, he wouldn't be my favorite DC. I wouldn't be read him.
But that's the point. This isn't the norm. This is a battle weary, tired, angry Batman who's been fighting crime for 20 years, and has lost his friends and allies. So he sort of pushes the line a little more.
He starts branding the worst-of-the-worst criminals (only two, and one is a human trafficker) and only finally sees what he's become after the climax of his fight with Superman, then vows to be better.
Could be, but Batman in DKR was similar and didn't kill. I wouldn't want to read a version of the character that falls into the abyss.

I don't even see winter soilder as a batman knock for one major reason the dark night is a crime/thriller drama gritty movie. Winder soilder is more political spy/thriller type.

Civil War didn't rip off BvS. Whether or not one is "garbage" is subjective. All of my friends (that read comic books) like both companies; 2 prefer Marvel more & 4 prefer DC. Only one of those really cared for BvS, though he noted not overly liking the version of Batman. The others had an array of issues with the movie.
Conversely, only 1 of those guys didn't really care for Civil War because it was more an Avengers movie then Cap movie. The rest (including myself) all got exactly what we went in for; a good time watching an adventure movie.
My friends love DC and Marvel, and one friend loves just Marvel, and all agree that CW rip off BvS.
And Civil War is fake ... not war, only jokes.
How does it rip off BvS? It's based on the premise of a storyline from 10 years ago. Even DKR wasn't about Batman wanting to fight/kill Kent because of perceived threat.
Civil War (not sure how it's "only jokes") was building up since the beginning of the MCU. Plus, I'm not certain how it was fake. It was a fight between two groups of former allies. Not sure what you were looking for. Would adding 20 more people on both sides been more a "war"? Of course at that time people could complain there were too many characters.

First, not to be a dick, but the term you're looking for is "coattails". I thought it was a typo initially, but you used it enough throughout your posts, I had to mention it.
It was controversial to some extent, but I like that Nolan kinda gave the select few who wanted Robin the character in TDKR. I prefer Batman as a loner, so I wasn't bothered by it.
I'm also not convinced if Blake was well received he'd have a solo movie. It wouldn't make sense for Nolan to do that.
People want all kind of shit like Leonardo as Riddler or Gina Carano as WW, doesn't mean directors should listen to them.

Are we talking comic books? Crisis on Infinite Earths made 1 Earth with 1 continuity...which is exactly how Marvel was doing things.

Crisis On Infinite Earth ... i don´t understand this part.
The trailers are definitely similar to GotG. I've never read an article about talks of a Suicide Squad before GotG was in theatres.
Until the 1st major DC event, Crisis on Infinite Earths, DC had several different Earths, each with a different version of each character. On one Earth/continuity, Batman married Selina & becomes the Gotham City police chief after retiring the cowl. They have a daughter named Helena Wayne, who becomes Huntress.
Regardless, the company (thanks to Marv Wolfman) decided to streamline everything and only have one Earth with one continuity. That's how Barry Allen died. Marvel has always maintained one Earth & continuity until that point (though they offered one-shot What If storylines).

Goyer was the BvS problem. He wrote a bad script, and there's only so much you can do. Terrio cleaned it up, but we didn't have the luxury of doing 5, 6 drafts. We had to film tons of practical action sequences

I don't think so. Now every time a DC film, that Snyder has his hands on, becomes a success, people will say that it was successful because Snyder has a leash around his neck now. If the film fails, then they will put all of the blame on Snyder.

These decisions may at least take some off of Snyder's shoulders because these movies are really taking a toll on him.
The Bat nipples are in its own category. I and many others find the Martha scene to be brilliant. The execution could've been done better, but we see the purpose behind. You can find thousands of articles, videos, and comments of people dissecting the scene and showing why it works. There are also thousands of sites that discuss Snyder's homage to theat comics.
I don't see why people are so upset over a statement that was made years ago. If Snyder was absolutely serious about the movie, I'm pretty sure WB would say "Hell no!!" to the idea. Not to mention, from my understanding of the statement, he was saying that IF he was making a dark Batman, there may be rape in it. He was just saying that he didn't find Nolan'a Batman films to be dark.
And yet there are thousands of people who'll disagree with you on that notion. Some who have dissected the film and justified their reasons for Snyder's understanding of the characters.

I really loved the movie, and I kinda see where Zack is going with these characters and I'm super excited for JL, BUT the movie is simply not an intelligent one. Certainly not how some fans fucking spin this. It was an enjoyable experience. Get over it. Stop trying to come up with excuses as to why it was critically panned. If movies from the Coen Bros or Tarantino or Fincher aren't panned, then being intelligent is definitely not what made this movie be disliked by the critics.

What was so brilliant about that? I'd have bought it if they actually had some convo after the Martha moment, but Batman suddenly drops everything and forgets everything and every reason why he was fighting Superman in the first place. Zack didn´t write BvS and Johns + Affleck are public fans of his work. He has also been working with Berg for quite some time. These 3 should cement Snydra´s position, if anything but i don´t even believe that the suits want him gone either. He made way too much accumulated money with his 2 DCEU films. BvS made 90% of the money all of WB´s films made in 2015!

I love the Martha bit but wasn´t it Terrio´s idea? I genially can´t remember (please link). I can only recollect that the entire team dug around for the connection for a VERY long time. That scene was also as comicbook-y as you can get!
It had the potential to be a great scene, much like the movie itself, yet was executed poorly. The writing was off. Superman should have said "You have to save my mom! Please, save Martha!"
Calling her Martha right away makes NO SENSE. He never called her that before, and always refered to her as mom. Again, it wasn't a bad scene, and had the potential for greatness, but the execution was off.

He never called her that before, he considered her his mother as an actual biological mother-son relationship and he never called her Martha before. It would be much better if he first said "Save my mom!" because he was desperate and that would be the first thing that came to his mind. Please, do not try to act all high and mighty if you are just coming to these types of discussions with the fanboy goggles on.
How would he find "mom". How should Bruce know who she would be? He never bothered to think about him as a human, as that scene reveled and Clark knew that. I detective can´t work without clues. He would now know at least for which civilian he needs to look.

They gain nothing by having blind fanboys defending every single thing about the movie. They learned their lesson. What we should want now is a better, more focused and tight script for JL.

Yeah, which is what the people responsible for critical flops usually say. Affleck said this movie wasn't for the critics, but that's ONLY because it was so poorly received. If it was well received, they wouldn't have even mentioned it. Or don't you find it strange that they only talked about this ONCE the reviews started to come in?

And you really had to mention Jersey Girl? I enjoy that movie just fine, as I am a big fan of Kevin Smith's work up until 2006, but the movie was not good in the slightest.

What are you trying to prove here? That you count better than wall-street magazines? Films need to perform during a specific window. MoS and BvS did. There is sadly a reason why Mad Max 5 isn´t fast tracked and why our slate official grew by at least 2 films. Watchmen for example apparently manged to make money by now but it didn´t during it´s operating window. That one is sadly a perfect example of a flop / under performance.
It made that money in 2015, that's what counts. They only got that money in 2015, so it's the money they made in 2015, dude. That's how it works.
And BvS did underperform. The movie cost at least some 350/400 million to produce and market... It made 870 million worldwide. That's not a bomb, but it barely turned a profit. They definitely wanted it to make over a billion, and that's showing with all the changes they're making and whatnot. The movie under performed.
Source that number official and give me a breakdown on how much which production partner will carry. Then please explain to me why BvS is now suddenly changed how films revenue is being counted and why no other films will be contacted like that afterward either. Lol. I read Forbes every day after all.

The BvS variant covers fuhrer managed to rescue DC´s comic arm for 2 months straight and... I expect around 500 mil. in pure profit, for 4 years work, with a dace of sequels to grow on.

From the movie alone? No way. Man of Steel had a profit of about 43 million dollars, and experts (not you) are expecting this movie to have even less of a profit. I'm not counting the blu ray sales of course, and digital and whatnot, but that won't make up that much money anyways. 43 million dollars is a joke of a profit, especially for these kinds of characters.

The variant covers and promotion of the books + Justice League Action, the crazy amount of product placement, the discs, streaming, tv rights, merchandising (Deadpool won´t see any of this money, aka the "real" money) and so on. The films will also get cinematic rerelease. My / Forbes is pragmatic if anything. The DCEU (thankfully) proved to be a gold mine, regardless how you want to spin this. Let´s see if the less controllable Potter will be bigger overall or not.

Every movie has product placement, and it does help with the cost associated with a movie, but a 400 million dollar movie, that makes 870 million is simply not a money maker. And yes, all that always helps, but not nearly as much as you'd think. And I think Deadpool will fare very well with the blu ray sales and the tv rights. Shorter film, comedy AND a super hero film, got good reviews and the audience loved it. This does not happen with BvS. And Deadpool cost 58 million to produce (plus at best some 50-100 million to market) and made 763 million worldwide... It had a much bigger profit than BvS will have with it's box office and blu ray sales combined. I loved the movie, but you are making it a much bigger deal than it is, unfortunately.

Merchandising is lastly THE reason big such toyetic films even get made. Bayformers makes more money with toys than with the films despite being able to make 1 billion in the cinemas. (I still remember buying my TAS and Batman and Robin toys.)
Well, firstly I'd just like to say that BvS had one of the worst multipliers for a movie of this magnitude. It opened with 420 million and ended up with 870. So, about 2x multiplier, really.
Second, yeah, I get what you're saying, but the box office is extremely important by itself. It dictates everything else, including the most important of all: Public Interest.
All of that is useless because by that logic, the movie could have made less than Ant-Man and still "turn a profit". They are obviously super nervous right now and they need to rectify it. They've already botched the first ever Batman/Superman live action film. They need a home run with JL.
China has NO idea who Wonder Woman is and JL can only performer stronger there if her movie managed to get traction in that country. Have an eye on that one instead.
The Chinese market barely even knows who Batman and Superman are, yet WB went all in on deep lore. Good for me, bad for most viewers (and multiplers are counted differently). It´s at least impossible to accuse them of coping the MCU now.
The chinese market is indeed huge, and it'll be good for JL that these characters are growing there. However, the percentage studios get from the money their movies make there is very very small.
18% of all the money Marvel makes is from there and the market will overtake the US next year BUT it won´t last. They love that America is building them all the state of the art cinemas and teach them modern filmmaking techniques and so on. So they are game as of now, but the
gates will start to close a bit when they got all they needed to. They make more than enough films to survive on their own and Hong Kong cinema is even pretty good, all things conidered.
That´s when new negotiations will starts, and all the studios who depended on them will be shit out of luck. Dark Knight survived in 08 without China just fine, yet Dr. Strange (i liked the trailer though) is being charged at the core, to fit that market. Let´s see which film will be remembered and revisited again and again in a decade+.

Nearly turning Bruce into Joe Chill is what made Affleck stand out from Bale to me. (Amy Adams really delivered too.) It´s my 3rd favorite scene after the Knightmare and Lex´s monologe about his father´s picture being the pinnacle of the film. No "defense" needed here or anywhere. Sounds like he knows what Johns is doing with the DC Films turnaround. He went from basically depressed after BvS to ecstatic essentially a day or two after Johns was openly brought on board to fix everything.

This is reasonable. I'm still in the camp that I loved BvS but am able to concede that the DCEU needs to be more accessible. i will never say that Snyder is not talented or any of that BS. BvS was visually epic. It will be interesting to see the ultimate cut and if it addresses some of the edit questioning I've seen around boards.
Edit: so basically, if it needs to take a DCEU movie to make over $1 billion to get people to finally STFU about them, then I'm game.

I've watched x-men apocalypse Jennifer Lawrence just ugghs me. It kinda felt like a hunger games movie with her end it. Letting you know ahead of time angel and pyslocke are wasted. Nightcrawler was my favorite character in it.

I was disappointed in the new Batman movie, if nothing else for the predictable penchant of Marvel movies to have climactic ending final battles full of wanton destruction of crumbling buildings, etc. It's really getting old. Special effects seem to be a filler when a script's quality is lacking.
Although admittedly, since I've seen so many movies at the Century Aurora theater, the whole Batman thing has been ruined for me anyhoo... I can't see a Batman item anywhere without thinking about IT.
