Warner Bros. has started test screening Suicide Squad for general audiences, and the reactions are in! Batman News has spoke to several people who were at the test screening, and has obtained a copy of the screening pass to confirm its validity. Here's how it all went down!

Fans who were watching Captain America: Civil War on Tuesday received a flyer inviting them to see a "new action film" from a "major studio" on Thursday, May 19th at Century 25 Theater in Union City, California. When they arrived, they learned it was Suicide Squad! The reactions are in, and they're overwhelmingly positive. Check them out below:

Reactions to these kind of screenings are almost always positive (even last year's Fantastic Four got positive reviews from early screenings), so the interesting news here is that Warner Bros. is starting to show the movie to general audiences, especially ones who were at a Marvel movie. Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5th, so there's time to make some tweaks based on the feedback Warner Bros. gets from these test screenings.

        Sometimes movies do, simply, just suck, but...sometimes you get one that's ahead of it's time. It's not often but cult hits do spring up. In the end, only you will know what you like.

      True, however, I will point out that with BvS they didn't allow any type of social media reactions, and all we knew of test screenings were rumors of them not going as well as they liked. With Suicide Squad, things seem different as Warners clearly has more confidence with this film to allow public test screenings while allowing Twitter reactions from them.
      It reminds me of Fox's confidence with Deadpool. Now don't get me wrong: I'm not saying these reactions are definitive evidence that Suicide Squad will be good, or get good reviews; all I'm saying is that it does show Warners Bros has more confidence with this film, at least in comparison with BvS, where we were getting reports left and right about how nervous they were with the film.
      So while these reactions shouldn't be taken as an absolute gurantee that this film will great or even good, they should show that Warners has more faith in this film being received positively, especially if they're letting social media reactions out THIS early with the film only two months away from being released. Even with bad films like FF and Green Lantern their social media reactions happened relatively close to their opening weekends, and weren't as early as Suicide Squad.

    Beyond that WB has took a gigantic shit inside itself with its movies, BvS which i enjoyed didnt do as well as they wanted and was destroyed by reviews, and now there are rumours of directors leaving and squabbling between Snyder and WB over future projects, this is all his 'vision' and theres a great big stinky cloud over it all, they NEED positive noise. Plus studios market films with test audience reactions, they are unreliable.
    As someone else pointed out Fantastic 4 got glowing reviews from their test audiences, that should tell you all you need to know.
    I will close as i opened, trust only your own judgement.

        Hey, I'm with you on the Dark Knight trilogy being amazing. Best superhero trilogy still today. None of the Marvel crap come anywhere near that trilogy. But now we get MoS, which is VERY divided, I personally enjoyed it. And now we get one of the worst superhero films to date, BvS. The DCU isn't looking so good nowadays.

        The batman in Nolan trilogy was kinda terrible. The rest was perfect but the batman character with the goofy voice and costume and my "one rule" just didn't fit in the realistic world. The Batman in Snyder's movie is goofy as well ( the costume) but the voice modulator and the whole " I've been through enough, I don't care if they die" idea was what he needed. You can't have a guy in a batsuit and have him behave like a righteous hero. These aren't the comics, even though the roots of batman show him using a gun and killing people. And superman was awesome too, he was lost, fucked up mentally, looking for purpose. This is why BvS is better than civil war. Bvs relies on deep realistic dark character motivations while Civil war just relies on itself and its own mythology which makes it empty as a movie. That's why zack snyder is the right person for superhero movies, he makes them serious but not in the campy civil war way. By adding grittyness and darkness he makes the characters less goofy.

Just because YOU thought it was goofy, doesn't make it so. BvS is nowhere near the level of quality as Civil War. It's not just about what you think is the best interpretation of the heroes, it's about the FILM. Are the character emotionally engaging? Not a single one in BvCrap, was the film's story told in a cohesive and engaging way? Not at all in BvCrap. The editing is a mess, the characters are lifeless, their motivations are laughable, the whole plot is a joke, there was barely any plot at all. BvS is a music video of a bunch of random scenes put together in a random order, whichever Hack Snyder thought were cool. Hack Snyder isn't a storyteller, he doesn't "GET" these characters, that's why he's going to get fired after Part 1 of Justice LEague. That's why the execs at Warner Bros. are in PANIC mode, you read all the reports, don't continue being delusional.

        The reason why they're in panic is because of all the hate from people like you. All the Avengers movies don't make sense, not even civil war, they're all goofey as fuck. BvS is similar to Watchmen and have this Snyder's signature violence and grittyness. Nolan's batman movies were good but the batman character was the weakest element. Even the alfred actor said in an interview that Heath ledgers joker was the main attraction in The dark knight, not the batman.

        You see the difference is you're only used to the batman that you like. But you don't appreciate the darker versions of the characters which are dominant in snyder films. I personally love it. If you want fun goofy superhero action go see Marvel, if you want some violent dark movies, go see DC movies. We already had the bat nipples, baleman and many happy versions of superman, what's the point of making similar movies but with better visual effects. They have to be original and that's what snyder is doing.

Critics don't embrace mixed films its either amazing and the best or it is garbage which it was neither.         Biggest drop off in the second weekend, 74%, for a superhero film is for captain america: civil war. And this film didn't even have that big of an opening as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
        This is despite the rave reviews, and 'apparent' positive word of mouth.

Since you think box-office numbers equal superiority here's another fact: civil war had bigger second and third week drops than the Avengers or Iron Man 3--that is without adjusting for inflation (if anything, this cements my very first comment). It's rather clear which movie was an actual disappointment, unless of course your mind is cloudy and your senses numbed from smelling all that bullshit. Have fun trying to sip at your turd, Jo. Here's why: Opening-weekends are calculated (at least if you actually want to be competitive and not just a sore loser of a person) from all around the world in every single theater the movie opened in, since these are worldwide releases.   I saw an early screening of BvS 4 days early. Still cant figure out how there is so much hate for this film. In the IMAX i saw it in, people were freakin CHEERING during multiple scenes. Was not perfect by any stretch, but was still dam good to me. Anyway before I go into a rant, cant wait for SS!

    The vibe for screenings is different. Everyone is hyped and no one is deterred by reviews because there are no reviews out.
    I bet a lot of people cheering maybe did a second viewing and became more aware of its problems. Take AngryJoe for example, he came out of BvS tweeting about how great it was but came to do the decision it was just "okay" later.
    I can honestly say I was kinda swayed by the bad reviews. I went into the movie worried and thinking about all the problems the reviewers pointed out and it killed my experience. I did a second viewing and I enjoyed it more, the problems didn't go away, but I was more forgiving.

        My opinion remains unchanged. I loved and enjoyed BvS for the most part, but there were a few things I wish were done a bit differently. I loved Affleck as Batman and 90% of the portrayal. I had no problem with the bitterness and coming close to the edge and almost crossing it by murdering Superman, but I do have a problem with him machine gunning thugs and causing mass destruction and murder for no reason. I felt those Batmobile/Batwing scenes should have been toned down a bit. The fight scene in the warehouse and the whole flamethrower thing didn't bother me, because saving innocent lives comes first, but Batman should not be killing with reckless abandon. Also, this version of Superman is a bit too morose and miserable for my taste. I loved MoS and I appreciated the story they were trying to tell with the character, but it was a bit heavy handed and it could have used some levity. Superman is not Batman. I understand they were questioning Superman's place in the world and all that, but even a few scenes in the beginning of showing him smile and actually enjoy saving lives and being Superman before things got heavy would have been nice. First and foremost I am a fan. Batman is by far my favorite character and I love Superman as well. As much as I may have personally enjoyed the film, I do wish it was more well received and it made more money. I want these movies to rival Marvel and they deserve to. General consensus does matter on these type of movies and the consensus was not positive. For the DCEU to continue and thrive they need some universally praised films under their belt. They can't keep putting out these ultra dark and divisive takes on these characters that do not resonate with general audiences. Superman is just not a dark character. He can be taken seriously and not be a happy boy scout all the time, but he does need to be good and inspirational. Their needs to be something uplifting and inspiring about him. He is not a depressed emo kid. This deconstruction take on him is hurting the character and is not what most people expect or want to see from him.

        I dont agree with this. I agree some of Marvels movies are overrated, but some them have been excellent. I honestly feel Ironman, TWS and Civil War has balanced being pop entertainment and meaningful very well. There is a middle ground. BvS was a very bleak and deconstructive take on the characters. There is nothing wromg with people wanting a more heroic and traditional version of their favorite heroes.

  I'll tell you for myself -- BvS was not just a disappointment -- it was a heartstab. It was probably the third greatest heartstab in my life. It took me about two weeks to process the magnitude of that, and how deeply WB disrespects me as a DC fan.
  Imagine your beloved girl cheating on you after 3 years of happy dating.
  And even if SS does turn out good, it will most likely be an exception, not a rule. Not with how WB manages its movies.

      It's not about not being able to stand the criticism, it's about disproving the criticism when the facts are right in front of you.
      Batman had more character development in this story than Superman. Superman also had character development, thoufht not by much.
      Batman started out as an aggressor, indirectly killing criminals and using a harsher hand of violence in his dealings with them. He had become this person over the years due to his great loss. He was the villain of the story, and we were seeing Superman from his perspective. He found redemption in the final moments of his confrontation with Superman, and this was signified when he chose not to brand Luthor in his jail cell.
      A murderer he was not.
      And jus because you disagree with the characterization of these characters doesn't mean there wasn't any "character development," especially when the characters coming out of this film are better people at the end than they were at the beginning of the ordeal. This was a story about two men undergoing an existential crisis and finding the light at the end. There could have been more showcases of Superman's side of the story but I understand most of that was cut out due to the long running time. Doesn't negate this as a good movie

        You right Batman did become better in the end.He became better at stabbing thugs in the heart or burning them alive,something that I remember occuring right after his confrontation with Superman where he found your so called "redemption".As for Superman I could agree with you that perhaps he actually went over a change in the end,but there are two problems with this.Superman was going to save the world either way since this is his current state of character,the change would have been becoming an actual symbol of hope for all not grief,and him feeling like living up to this symbol.My second problem is that as far as we know Superman will return as evil for the Injustice storyline,which would be an actual character developement but in a different movie,so again no character developement in BvS.But I will aggree with you on the last part,we really need to see the director's cut and to tell you the truth I want see the actual 4hours cut because I know that there we will find what the writers and director were trying to accomplish before WB edited it down for audiences.

        Batman stabbed no one in the heart. He stabbed the guy in the shoulder to pin him and that cannot be argued as a mischaracterization because it's faithful to the essence of who he is, especially at that present time in this films universe.
        Neither did Batman burn anyone alive. He shot the gas tank the KG beast was using and depowered him. The KGbeast was simply dumb enough to try and use the flamethrower despite knowing it was faulty. Batman could have shot him, but he chose not to. So any complaints that Batman was a murderer and didn't find redemption by the end of the film are baseless unfounded.
        I applaud you for giving Zack and Co thr thebenefit of a doubt on Superman though. People claimed he was joyless and didn't smile enough but based on the scrutiny he was under and the world the character grew up in, it made sense for him to react in that regard, and was great for the character's development since he's always seen as a Boy scout. Also Supman smiled, and on more than one occasion in the film, twice while saving lives, so any arguments about that are easily dispelled. And for the record, critics claiming that Superman not smiling equates to a bad characterization is just a shallow point to make, wouldn't you say? Especially for a character dealing with what Clark had to deal with.
        I'd also like to offer the idea that Supermans sacrifice was his monologue. It was His undeniable proof to a world that doubted him, that he deserved their trust. It said everything he needed to say. But his sacrifice wasn't for shock value. It was the characters personal triumph, him finally embracing his humanity. When he returns he'll have risen from the dead, fully aware of himself and his abilities. He'll kick ass, take names, and yes, smile while doing it all. 😀
        I think people should be patient. Zack and Co are taking superman on a journey through multiple films. Its not without flaws, but I'm intrigued by this narrative and I look forward to the payoff in the end

        Yeah he shot the tank and let him burn alive and he also killed the thugs outside the building with the batplane's bullets which I think as way far from the Batman's essence.I also want to agree with you on the Superman's sacrifice but you will allow me to have my doubts because I said they are hinting towards the Injustice storyline which means that Superman will get his eventual character developement in the next movie,so for that we will have to wait and see.And as for the benefit of the doubt towards Snyder and Co,I will just say that for me they earned it with man of steel a movie that I actually loved despite its flaws.But I am sorry the mistakes with BvS are too many and too obivious for me to unsee so far and that is why I want them to actually try harder for the next movie.

        The only defense I can even come up with to excuse Batmans behavior when he shot up the vehicle is self defense. It's the one instance in the entire movie that anyone.can really claim that Batman killed. They were firing a high powered weapon at him, and frankly I don't see what else he could've done to force them to stop, since it was a weapon that could potentially bring his aircraft down. Did the guards jump ship before the vehicle exploded?
        Also in regards to why Joker and others are still alive under the vigilance of a hyper brutal Batman, well, I thought it was obvious that Batmans wasn't as brutal in his earlier days when dealing with Joker. He hadn't been pushed to his limits as we see him here in BvS
        I don't know where Suicide squad fits on the time line. Can't tell If it's post BvS or after. I'm really thinking it's post BvS, which would explain Batman being less harsh in his tactics
        I don't understand why it's a problem that Batman let the KGbeast burn alive. He was the one dumb enough to trigger the damaged flamethrower. He was the one trying to kill Martha. Batman did his duty in protecting Martha .She was his priority . I really don't see how or why he would bother to save the guy who was trying to kill them both, especially when it was damn near impossible to do so. This is definitely an unfair criticism

        Why wouldn't he. The guy had just stabbedhim. Batman has done far worse in the comics. He's open to interpretation. The point is that he's returning to his roots by the end of the film. He did what he had to do to save martha

        "Why wouldn't he" is different then stating its his essence. Aside from the first 6-8 months when he was a killer, I don't recall reading issues where Batman is stabbing people, even if they stabbed him.
        As you stated, he's open to interpretation, but it seems like you're initially throwing out common knowledge (his essence), then shifting to justification (why wouldn't he), to your own opinion (he's open to interpretation.)
        Regardless, I see what you think on the BvS version of the character.

        The common norm for Batman hasn't been brutal. He's not crippling & maiming people.
        His tactics haven't been brutal, they've been strategic. His contingency plans (as introduced in the Tower of Babel storyline) were to neutralize his allies that have gone rogue.
        It's not about a fictious criminal, it's about the mindset of Batman. It's been about him not falling into the abyss & becoming what he's fighting against. He's not Frank Castle, nor should he be.
        By accepting Batman as being brutal toward fictious criminals, we're accepting him as muscle instead of a master tactician.

  Dude I agree, I thought deadpool was horrible. Even though it was a short movie, I couldn't wait until it was over. I almost walked out bc I didn't find any jokes funny or the action good and all of the characters were boring. Anyways, thought BvS was great too and Civil War for me was actually good too. 9.5/10 for BvS, 8/10 CW, and 3/10 for deadpool. I know I'm in the minority, but that was my kind of movie.

    these early screenings are filled with this blindness and ignorance born from the hype and that's pretty much their function, let hyped fans who will adore the movie no matter what see it so they can tweet what a masterpiece it is, sure I bet the film's gonna be better critically than Bvs, but how much better you think... 30%?, 40%?, 50% at RT? lol.

        even if you don't take RT seriously and... you are right you shouldn't, it has become this abominable, omnipotent force of critic consensus that sets the general opinion on AAA motion pictures to the point of having an effect on box office, shit, I'd be happy if the film is as daring and fun as the animated movie was, problem is I don't think that was ever the intention of the producers... Hopefully I'm wrong and they do something interesting for a change.

        well that's like saying it's naive to predict a marvel film future based on another marvel film, technically speaking some marvel movies are action films, others go more into comedy vibes, others are kinda sci-fi or thrillers, they use different directors... but that's where the differences end: technicalities. Most of them are simple PG-13, unambitious movies with very simple, even dumb stories to please audiences (and critics alike), and what is DC trying to do with this new DC cinematic universe? copy Marvel´s philosophy instead of venturing above it, first thing that came into my mind when I heard about this movie was: "why the f*** is this movie a PG-13?!" then I hear they had to do reshoots (curiously after the Deadpool movie)... So there is more things to consider here beyond BvS. Here I was really making a simple comment not trying to predict anything, if you ask me it´d be bloody glorious if the movie's good.

    I wouldn't but I would be interested somehow because that would either mean the film is either abysmally, cult classic type bad or it simply gave the audience something way out of their comfort zone, which in general terms, it's a good thing when talking about these hyped fans. What is happening right now is just predictable.

Pretty sure the movie will be more "popcorn" than BvS, i really enjoyed the movie but it seems like Snyder was more personal than Ayer, obviously early screening reactions are too positive to be a 100 % success (like what we saw from reactions to BvS first screening) but i'm positive for this DC movie product. I'm looking forward to see more Batfleck actions ! Wait and see in august ;)

      It's a FACT that it sucks. When you look at the structure of the film (which it has none) it's a complete mess, that's a fact. Editing sucks, fact. The plot sucks, fact. The characters suck, fact. Biggest drop offs in box office history, 27%, most of able-thinking people disliked it, fact.

    Good is a matter of perspective... not really something objective... especially in regards to works of art... which I believe all movies to be. I thought (as many other do) that BvS was actually a cage, that trapped 3 great characters in a bad movie (although bad is too harsh, "mediocre and plainly dumb at times" fits better)...
    I hope that the directors cut will rip open that cage, but I fear it is something that an other movie will have to achieve.

    Yeah, I was sooo hyped for BvS, it was all I could think about in terms of movies.....and it did not blow me away. Now that the hype has died down, the more I see it the more I see the missed opportunities of what could have been. I felt like I was watching a really long trailer and not a movie due to its editing issues. Anyways, I'm truly hoping SS will be great, but I'm going to take a wait and see approach this time.

BvS early GA reactions were overwhelmingly positive too. I can already tell you, that having MoS now be very near and dear to my heart as a Superman fan, and just about loving BvS at this point, the early reviews won't faze me one way or the other, as I'm pretty sure I'll love SS given I'm down for the direction the DCEU is going and the way the characters have been treated thus far. Can't wait for August! Day one showing for me.

I won't be burned again. I just don't want to get really excited just because of early screening reactions. I'll just have to reserve judgement till I see it with my own eyes. It's still nice to hear that people enjoyed it though.
I'm most interested in the aftermath. How will the the reshoots in the 3rd act effect the overall film. Will the film be better or worst because of them and word about what was originally there. Reshoots don't make me worried though. For the most part I think it's pretty cool that if a studio sees problems ahead of time they take the time to fix it, instead of shrugging it off and hoping for the best. It's also pretty interesting that they're already doing test screenings to fans of the genre. Since I don't recall them doing that for BvS. It seemed like it was just for execs and they were pretty mum. It feels like WB is really invested in making sure this film is a home run. That's cool.
