Warner Bros. hopes to bring Booster Gold into the DC Extended Universe

Last fall there was a report that said Warner Bros. was working on a Booster Gold and Blue Beetle team-up movie, and at least part of that has now been confirmed. In an interview with The Hollywoord Reporter, Greg Berlanti (who produces and helped create shows like Arrow and The Flash) confirmed his involvement with a Booster Gold movie at Warner Bros.

If Warner Bros. TV executives asked you to be the Kevin Feige — who is the creative mastermind of Marvel — of the DC Cinematic Universe, what would you say?
It's never even really come up. Peter [Roth, president of Warner Bros. TV] knows how much I love the characters, and I like being part of this universe in any way that they'll all allow and are interested in me being a part. That's the truth. I'm attached to a few films [at Warner Bros.] now, and one, Booster Gold, is a DC property. Zack Stentz, who wrote an episode of Flash last year, just got the job, so he's writing the script now. I'd probably direct that, or I would want to. But I don't see my cup as limited. I actually think some of the stuff we get to do on the TV side is richer, deeper and more like the true comic books in the sense that you're always able to explore a new thing the next week and the stories grow wider and wider.

Berlanti first dipped his toe into the world of DC Comics when he co-wrote and co-produced Ryan Reynold's Green Lantern movie. Since then he's worked on much bigger hits on TV like Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow.

It's important to note that just because they are working on a Booster Gold script doesn't mean we're definitely getting a movie. Warner Bros. works on a lot of scripts that never get made, but this is promising and the first piece of official news we've heard about this project.

  I enjoyed bvs but I feel like they're missing out by not including the Berlantiverse flash in the DCEU. I feel like there's no way, regardless of how good of an actor Ezra Miller is, that their flash can do anything to make people like it better than the tv version. The sheer fact that the show gets 21 hour long episodes every year to build a world that is compelling and interesting and the DCEU version will have to establish itself as the fifth member of a 3 hour movie...

    But then we would have to include the awful Batman ripoff Arrow and the main character of the show Felicity. I love tv Flash but no way in hell would I want Bat-Lite, their awful version of Ras Al Ghul in the DCEU.

    We don't have to like one over the other we got both. Solid tv universe on tv that needs to stay it's own thing. I recently got into Earth 2 Society and that is a good feel. We don't need the status quo to be the same, now we get variety, and even more with comics and animation

If he is such an amazing producer that dc would be lucky to have him in charge, then his movie career wouldn't be such an embarrassment.       Well to be fair the art design was horrible too, like tentacle cloud Parallax, especially when it had a higher budget than the Thor films, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Man of Steel's dying sepia filtered Krypton looked way more alive than OA.

Just let Affleck be the mastermind. Let Snyder do the visuals. And get some high quality directors like Wan and Jenkins to stay attached to DC properties. I NEED DC to be smart and realize that as much as it sucks, critic reviews absolutely sway public opinion on whether or not to go see a movie in theatres.

This is great news, despite Green Lantern what Berlanti has done with The Flash and the first two seasons of Arrow are amazing in my opinion. Seems like hes learned his lesson from Green Lantern.

Legends of Tomorrow is a disappointment, Supergirl failed & had to run back to the CW and Arrow is terrible now. So he is 1-4 with the TV properties.

  Yeah Flash is really good but Arrow took a major dip in quality after season 2. That show is way to many people suiting up. Legends of Tomorrow I have zero interest in and Supergirl, well I'm not gonna lie I am interested in the show. Will definitely watch it on netflix or something

  Definitely don't agree with you. Legends of tomorrow took characters that mkst oeopke hadn't heard of and those that had didn't care about and made a show worthy of watching. While supergirl I'll agree isn't that great, the Flash has been nothing short of phenomenal and now that Arrow has gotten rid of canary I feel like it'll get back on track because the first two seasons were in my opinion great. And as far as the green lantern thing goes, the script that made it to film was pretty different from what Berlanti had done

  Supergirl "failed" ? It averaged between 8 and 9 million viewers and was THE breakout show in this TV season. You have a very strange idea of failure. It´s heading to CW to reduce costs by shooting in Vancouver and to include it easier into the DC TV universe Berlanti has created.
  the decline in quality for Arrow is Guggenheims fault, not Berlantis. same with the shortcomings on LoT (where Guggenheim is also head writer) though LoT has proven to be a very entertaining show (also cut it some slack, it´s only in it´s first season and still has time to iron out the kinks)
  Green Lantern did not suck because of Berlanti but because of Warners meddling, endless rewrites and studio interference.

      No need for name calling. FWIW: Supergirl only gets a 33% increase in total viewers when adding DVR. The lowest among the comic book TV shows. Gotham also on Mondays gets a 56% increase. So not only is it not doing very well same day its not getting a good bump in Live +7. Which is why CBS is moving it to the CW.

      Every couple episodes a new addition to team Flash is introduced instead of actually building upon Barry's powers or character.
      Barry never wins any fights. He runs into a fight. Stops to chat. Then gets the shit kicked out of him. Has to go home to get a pep talk. Comes back and loses again, but kinda doesn't because someone saves his useless ass.
      Show is boring at this point as well.

      Hunter isn´t actually Jay garrick. If you would follow the show you would know that. he never was. He was just pretending to be Jay. Kreisberg said that they would never make Jay into a villain (He said that AFTER the Hunter/Jay reveal). There is more to come. We don´t know the whole story behind Jay and Hunter yet. I still think they are twin brothers and that Jay is the one in the iron mask which is a nice nod to the Flash/Cobalt Blue storyline and the classic tale of King Louie who imprisoned his twin brother and put him in a...wait for it...iron mask.
      Hunter himself is simply a damn good actor, just like Eobard was when impersonating Wells or Palpatine on Star Wars when he pretended to be a sympathetic senator. and how is Wally not a character? That remark was just dumb.
      Yes Barry loses a lot of fights but he has been Flash for only two years now. He is continously learning. He is not the Flash or Barry from the comics yet (who is a lot older and more experienced). but he has continuously evolved his abilities. sure others guided and taught him but even Luke Skywalker needed a Yoda to develop his skills. Batman even needed several masters to become that skilled.
      And Barry HAS won several fights. He defeated Reverse Flash, Girder, Captain Cold, King Shark and many others on his own. But at the end of the day this is stlll a young, unrefined, more flawed and vulnerable Barry and need to be seen as such. Nontheless Grant Gustin is extremely beloved in the role and has already defined it for a whole generation.
      hell several comic book writers who WROTE THE FLASH COMICS have praised the show and Grant in role. Mark Waid, who wrote Superman: Birthright and the Flash books for years went so far as to calling the show the best DC superhero property in live action and he is an avid fan of the show.   Legends of Tomorrow might not have great writing but it is a pretty entertaining show so i wouldn't call it a disappointment.Just watched this week episode and it was amazing.This show keeps getting better every episode so i'm confident that season two will be great.
  I don't like or watch Supergirl but it has a pretty big audience which does and tune in weekly so i can understand.The problem with Supergirl was that each episode cost 6 million and CBS expected it to draw pretty high ratings in comparison.It still draw good ratings but not what they were expecting so they had no choice here but to move it to cw.Supergirl per episode cost as much as Games of thrones so doesn't take much brain to realize why they had to move it.
  Not his fault with Arrow.In short, He is doing pretty good job.
  DC tv is doing great and they are learning from their mistake and keeps getting better just cause they have talented people in-charge.DC movie verse on the other hand seems like a sinking ship cause they don't have someone in-charge to see things over.

There's been two freakin movies in the DCEU. Calm your t!ts, TV snob. Suicide Squad looks like it'll be brash but fun, Wonder Woman will be epic and the other movies will have varying tones.
A movie shouldn't be criticized for its tone if the tone is in line with the story being told. I never watch The Godfather and complain about the lack of glib one-liners and dick jokes. Nor do I watch Ghostbusters and lament that there aren't any heartbreaking scenes where a character prattles on about a lost love.
Having sincere drama in a superhero movie doesn't make it a failure; if the audience thinks a movie's quality is determined by how often people smile and how saturated the colors are then they should go back to preschool. It's nonsense.

  Too many people were preoccupied with looking for what they wanted to see in BvS instead of accepting what they were seeing. There was plenty of sincere drama there to be had but people were looking for pratfalls, one-liners and winks at the camera.
  The sad thing is that the "general audience" that dictates the success of these movies has been so programmed to want everything spoonfed to them that you can't deviate at all from the current formula. That's a disservice to the characters and to the mediums of comics and film.
  Unless things are bright and cheery, like a handful of change jangling in the sun in front of them, they lose focus like a bunch of Ritalin-deficient sufferers of ADHD.

I don't believe this will ever actually make it to the big screen. To many stories still need to be told in the DCEU for Booster Gold to be a priority. I can see them including him in a minor role though.

Variety is great and i would love to see a atirical take on the DCEU. He could also grow from a joke to a tragic hero, so we already have an easy to adapt arc.
The very first 80s Booster was a serious character btw. and the original creator Dan Jürgens again turned him into one after Geoff Johns´s first step in his highly recommended Vol.2 series.

    I enjoyed bvs but I feel like they're missing out by not including the Berlantiverse flash in the DCEU. I feel like there's no way, regardless of how good of an actor Ezra Miller is, that their flash can do anything to make people like it better than the tv version. The sheer fact that the show gets 21 hour long episodes every year to build a world that is compelling and interesting and the DCEU version will have to establish itself as the fifth member of a 3 hour movie...

      We don't have to like one over the other we got both. Solid tv universe on tv that needs to stay it's own thing. I recently got into Earth 2 Society and that is a good feel. We don't need the status quo to be the same, now we get variety, and even more with comics and animation

It seems anytime this dude is involved in any position in a movie, be it as writer,director or producer,it ends up a financial and critical failure. If he is such an amazing producer that dc would be lucky to have him in charge, then his movie career wouldn't be such an embarrassment.         Well to be fair the art design was horrible too, like tentacle cloud Parallax, especially when it had a higher budget than the Thor films, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Man of Steel's dying sepia filtered Krypton looked way more alive than OA.

Just let Affleck be the mastermind. Let Snyder do the visuals. And get some high quality directors like Wan and Jenkins to stay attached to DC properties. I NEED DC to be smart and realize that as much as it sucks, critic reviews absolutely sway public opinion on whether or not to go see a movie in theatres.

This is great news, despite Green Lantern what Berlanti has done with The Flash and the first two seasons of Arrow are amazing in my opinion. Seems like hes learned his lesson from Green Lantern.

    Yeah Flash is really good but Arrow took a major dip in quality after season 2. That show is way to many people suiting up. Legends of Tomorrow I have zero interest in and Supergirl, well I'm not gonna lie I am interested in the show. Will definitely watch it on netflix or something

    Definitely don't agree with you. Legends of tomorrow took characters that mkst oeopke hadn't heard of and those that had didn't care about and made a show worthy of watching. While supergirl I'll agree isn't that great, the Flash has been nothing short of phenomenal and now that Arrow has gotten rid of canary I feel like it'll get back on track because the first two seasons were in my opinion great. And as far as the green lantern thing goes, the script that made it to film was pretty different from what Berlanti had done

    Supergirl "failed" ? It averaged between 8 and 9 million viewers and was THE breakout show in this TV season. You have a very strange idea of failure. It´s heading to CW to reduce costs by shooting in Vancouver and to include it easier into the DC TV universe Berlanti has created.
    the decline in quality for Arrow is Guggenheims fault, not Berlantis. same with the shortcomings on LoT (where Guggenheim is also head writer) though LoT has proven to be a very entertaining show (also cut it some slack, it´s only in it´s first season and still has time to iron out the kinks)
    Green Lantern did not suck because of Berlanti but because of Warners meddling, endless rewrites and studio interference.

        No need for name calling. FWIW: Supergirl only gets a 33% increase in total viewers when adding DVR. The lowest among the comic book TV shows. Gotham also on Mondays gets a 56% increase. So not only is it not doing very well same day its not getting a good bump in Live +7. Which is why CBS is moving it to the CW.

        Barry is nothing like his comic book counter part. He's a moron who will give his powers up to make a serial killer unstoppable to save one person. He doesn't figure out how to use his powers on his own, he needs a pep talk after he cries like a bitch to his friends and family about being too slow.
        Wally is not even a character.
        Jay Garrick being a psychopathic killer that doesn't gel with society yet isn't awkward in conversation and acts normal makes no sense.
        The whole Jay Garrick twist was cancer.
        Every couple episodes a new addition to team Flash is introduced instead of actually building upon Barry's powers or character.
        Barry never wins any fights. He runs into a fight. Stops to chat. Then gets the shit kicked out of him. Has to go home to get a pep talk. Comes back and loses again, but kinda doesn't because someone saves his useless ass.
        Show is boring at this point as well.

        Well yeah, you pretty much just unwrapped the two major problems that I myself named. But at least it still got good acting and special effects (I thought King Shark was very well done) -- is that not enough to make a TV SHOW serviceable?

        Hunter isn´t actually Jay garrick. If you would follow the show you would know that. he never was. He was just pretending to be Jay. Kreisberg said that they would never make Jay into a villain (He said that AFTER the Hunter/Jay reveal). There is more to come. We don´t know the whole story behind Jay and Hunter yet. I still think they are twin brothers and that Jay is the one in the iron mask which is a nice nod to the Flash/Cobalt Blue storyline and the classic tale of King Louie who imprisoned his twin brother and put him in a...wait for it...iron mask.
        Hunter himself is simply a damn good actor, just like Eobard was when impersonating Wells or Palpatine on Star Wars when he pretended to be a sympathetic senator. and how is Wally not a character? That remark was just dumb.
        Yes Barry loses a lot of fights but he has been Flash for only two years now. He is continously learning. He is not the Flash or Barry from the comics yet (who is a lot older and more experienced). but he has continuously evolved his abilities. sure others guided and taught him but even Luke Skywalker needed a Yoda to develop his skills. Batman even needed several masters to become that skilled.
        And Barry HAS won several fights. He defeated Reverse Flash, Girder, Captain Cold, King Shark and many others on his own. But at the end of the day this is stlll a young, unrefined, more flawed and vulnerable Barry and need to be seen as such. Nontheless Grant Gustin is extremely beloved in the role and has already defined it for a whole generation.
        hell several comic book writers who WROTE THE FLASH COMICS have praised the show and Grant in role. Mark Waid, who wrote Superman: Birthright and the Flash books for years went so far as to calling the show the best DC superhero property in live action and he is an avid fan of the show. While he heavily disliked and criticised Man of Steel.

    Legends of Tomorrow might not have great writing but it is a pretty entertaining show so i wouldn't call it a disappointment.Just watched this week episode and it was amazing.This show keeps getting better every episode so i'm confident that season two will be great.
    I don't like or watch Supergirl but it has a pretty big audience which does and tune in weekly so i can understand.The problem with Supergirl was that each episode cost 6 million and CBS expected it to draw pretty high ratings in comparison.It still draw good ratings but not what they were expecting so they had no choice here but to move it to cw.Supergirl per episode cost as much as Games of thrones so doesn't take much brain to realize why they had to move it.
    Not his fault with Arrow.In short, He is doing pretty good job.
    DC tv is doing great and they are learning from their mistake and keeps getting better just cause they have talented people in-charge.DC movie verse on the other hand seems like a sinking ship cause they don't have someone in-charge to see things over.

  There's been two freakin movies in the DCEU. Calm your t!ts, TV snob. Suicide Squad looks like it'll be brash but fun, Wonder Woman will be epic and the other movies will have varying tones.
  A movie shouldn't be criticized for its tone if the tone is in line with the story being told. I never watch The Godfather and complain about the lack of glib one-liners and dick jokes. Nor do I watch Ghostbusters and lament that there aren't any heartbreaking scenes where a character prattles on about a lost love.
  Having sincere drama in a superhero movie doesn't make it a failure; if the audience thinks a movie's quality is determined by how often people smile and how saturated the colors are then they should go back to preschool. It's nonsense.

    Too many people were preoccupied with looking for what they wanted to see in BvS instead of accepting what they were seeing. There was plenty of sincere drama there to be had but people were looking for pratfalls, one-liners and winks at the camera.
    The sad thing is that the "general audience" that dictates the success of these movies has been so programmed to want everything spoonfed to them that you can't deviate at all from the current formula. That's a disservice to the characters and to the mediums of comics and film.
    Unless things are bright and cheery, like a handful of change jangling in the sun in front of them, they lose focus like a bunch of Ritalin-deficient sufferers of ADHD.

I don't believe this will ever actually make it to the big screen. To many stories still need to be told in the DCEU for Booster Gold to be a priority. I can see them including him in a minor role though.

Variety is great and i would love to see a atirical take on the DCEU. He could also grow from a joke to a tragic hero, so we already have an easy to adapt arc.
The very first 80s Booster was a serious character btw. and the original creator Dan Jürgens again turned him into one after Geoff Johns´s first step in his highly recommended Vol.2 series.
