After all the hype and rave reviews, Marvel's Captain America: Civil War fell short to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on opening night. Marvel's latest pulled in $25 million last night, which is almost $3 million shy of Batman v Superman's $27.7 million Thursday debut. If you add in the Friday numbers, Captain America: Civil War made $75.3 million, which is less than the $81.5 million Batman v Superman made in the same amount of time.

In it's first opening weekend, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice made $166.1 million in North America. Box office analysts are estimating that Captain America: Civil War will make over $200 million this weekend. Whether or not they hit that achievement remains to be seen.       Saw it. It's definitely not all that. The critics have a biased and seem to be Marvel fans. They like anything they dish out even though half there movies are cookie cutter and are the same tone.

        There is a system to professional writing that applies to the judgement of any movie screenplay, comic, novel, stage performance etc. Creative storytelling and literary development have several key components that professional critics check and analyze when determining whether a movie is Well done or not. It's not some simple notion of being a "Marvel Fan" or a DC fan".
        There is a difference between Liking/Disliking a film and determining whether or not it was successfully made. Professional critics, generally, understand this. Most fans do not. Your lack of objectivity is showing from your attempt to lump all of "the critics" as if they all have the same opinion for no reason. It doesnt matter if you do not personally like the "tone" of many Marvel fans, that is irrelevant to whether or not it was a well written story with well developed characters.
        Now sure, not all single critics are right, but to dismiss them all is non sense.
        Having similar "tone" doesn't change the fact that the MCU films are largely very unique to one another. Ant-Man and Gaurdians were of course both very comedic, but one is a Heist film about 2 broken family relationships, and the other is a Space Odyssey about a band of outlaws. Winter Soldier and Civil War were political thrillers, Thor is a science fantasy, all were extremely wide range of elements and major fundamental differences. Acting like they're all the same cookie cutter, just because some of their "tones" are similar is just poor judgement.

    How do you figure? BvS starts of a new shared universe while Cap 3/Avengers 3 is a sequel to an already established universe. Also Cap 3 is an over crowded and forced sequel with waaaaaay too many characters and it is convoluted as well. The crtics predictably give it a pass. SMH

    There is nothing to cry about. Jungle book will be surprisingly eating into its opening gains and xmen apocalypse is sure going to drag it's worldwide down. WB was very smart to move bvs to March for this reason. Disney is screwing up their own stuff with their own releases. Star wars rogue looming around Dr.Strange. Moreover Friday is still pacing below BvS. Just wait to see how this movie will fare in the following weekends, it looks like a clear IM 3 multiplier with 176 M ow at BO. If the weekends sustain numbers without huge decline which the audience get to decide , 410 to 420 M is guaranteed. ..or it will just do away with 360 to 370 M..not so far from BvS and should not be surprising given how their last outing fared.

BvS has outdone all of them proving critics are nothing despite panning the movie. Audience proving it was still more than an average fare turned as a bummer for critics.         Remember Iron Man 2's 200 million budget in 2010? Modest beginnings, even while shelling out huge budget it fell below Iron Man. BvS outdid its WW gross and also surpassed its predecessor MOS. IM2 was also certified fresh by a site that goes about by the name Rotten Tomatoes which proves critics mean nothing. So you see, these are the metrics Marvelites don't want to be comparing. They just cherry pick/
        Disney has to do their best to make sure Star wars 8 grosses atleast half as VII. VII was all about the initial hype that benefited them the most. They got lucky with George Lucas. initial promos, fans from the 70 and 80s. The audience and hype were unprecedented. It was expected for the movie to behave so and it needs to carry on. I wouldn't be surprised if SW 8 grossed as less as 600 million domestic.
        That being said Civil War is the second Caps sequel with as many as Avengers as Feige could cram in it. So it has to surpass BvS indeed or it's a shame.

        Yeah, you just want to ignore the MAJOR second week drop off that BvS had which indicates very bad word of mouth. You also ignore that audience scores for this movie are quite bad for any superhero film out there. This movie could have made much more money if it was good but it sucked.
        Speaking of WW gross, Civil War just out grossed BvS internationally. How much longer before it out grosses it both domestically and overall? How much before it crosses a billion? Lmao.
        Zootopia has out grossed BvS as well. Deadpool, an R-rated, B lister out grossed two of the most iconic A list heroes (along with Wonder Woman another A lister) on screen for the first time ever domestically. No to mention they only beat it by around 100 million and Deadpool didn't have China. Lmao
        Snyder sucks and brought down what could have been an incredible event of a film. Justice League Part 1 does not fair well with him directing again.
        I am actually looking forward to Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman because Snyder (and Goyer) aren't apart of them. Ayer and Jenkins I have faith in. Ben Affleck's future Batman project also has me very much excited. I thought he was the best part of the shitty BvS even with the terrible writing behind him but that wasn't Affleck's fault.
        Call me a Marvelite if you wish but that does nothing. I just don't want crap and Snyder has delivered just that.

        Yeah all the usual lines for defense. BvS dropped 70 due to its extremely high Friday opening for any March release. Superhero movies in March is not common place. WB released it earlier to avoid competition from the crowded May for their tentpole and their expectations were only at 140 to 145 opening.
        I hope you read what I posted about Iron Man 2. Stop comparing BvS to your phase 3 and phase 2 Avengers crammed solo movies. All solo movies are going to be infested with Avengers like antman and spiderman, making buffs wonder whether they are watching the solo hero's movie or an Avengers partial sequel. Thanks to Feige who can't think oob. Remember industry predictions of odd 220 million fior CA:CW? What happened to that? LMAO.

Yeah 13th movie in the marvel cinematic universe since 2008 and you really thought you could use that line "no one ever heard of superheroes" to your defense. Seriously you got to admit if there was a superhero fatigue, it clearly applies in the MCU now. This movie was bigger than Iron Man 3 in terms of budget, had spidey as a cameo and other avengers to add hype as well and it still couldn't get past Iron Man 3.
        BvS is just at the start....give it a little space.

But IMHO I don't think a movie grossing 70 million more at domestic isn't equivalent of being destroyed. BvS is an early phase.
        Right from the promos phase, there were lots going in favor of the movie, like kickstarter for phase 3, heavy promo for spidey cameo including partial Avengers ensemble tease.
        I never mentioned anything against the merits of Captain America but superhero fatigue is actually evident from the way how this movie grossed for a 250 million budget movie. The current 406 domestic gross in place of 2012's lesser expensive Avengers speaks for itself. Secondly don't dare to twist facts. Iron Man 3 still stands above Captain America as of now. Go figure. That movie wasn't even a better one.

        Here’s the thing – these days they think it’s edgy if they
        don’t tell a story like it was in the comic books, or follow basic canon that literally everyone knows such as Batman doesn’t murder people indiscriminately and Superman doesn’t snap necks.
        Unfortunately with Zack Snyder setting the foundation as it
        is, him being executive producer on JL means he pretty much has to follow that path. Which is sad – because the studio in their race to make themselves different from Marvel and chase after all the almighty buck (which is all that seems to matter is how much money the movie made as a litmus test) – means that we will not get the JL we as fans deserve.
        Do you know why so many people compare the old Superman to
        this one and find it lacking? Because the big blue Boy Scout was fun to watch and he embodied the best things of humanity. This Superman does not and that is why Zack failed. Do you know I so many people compare the old Batman to this one and find it lacking? Same reason – we’ve gone from a genius level intellect
        with technological gadgets – to a bullet wielding indiscriminate killer whose only logical reason for fighting Superman is he “might” turn bad. Really?
        Genius level intellect and that’s what he comes up with? Don’t get me started on Lex Luthor.
        Almost 50 years old and I’m still into superhero movies. I
        don’t favor Marvel over DC. What I do not favor is someone taking an established pantheon and basically shitting on it and changing it just to be different.
        That’s why this movie failed – that’s why this movie had such a horrible rating – that’s why this movie didn’t make the billion mark. And it absolutely should have.

        Good job parsing. The horrible rating on Rotten tomatoes is just a reflection of percentage of number of critics that gave a score above 60 The aggregate is still 4.9 which is more than the Metacritic aggregate 44. This is why I've decided to stop following tomatometer. If this movie had far lesser no of critics on RT, the score would have stayed only in the range of upper 40s....Can you imagine why massive flops like Independence Day or Legend of Tarzan still remain at 30 or more?
        Rotten tomatoes should adopt a system of fixed number of top rated critics for every release and their editorial for pete's sake, should not cram/approve all of the online posts or ratings onto tomatometer. I hope you have understood the flaw in this by now.
        Many of them must have rated with a score above 50 for BvS which led to the 4.9/10 aggregate. An average score elsewhere(IMDB-7, Metascore 44 & user- 7, RT audience- 66). RT audience score can potentially increase over time. This movie doing closer to 900 million proved that audience embraced it more than the critics and is a clear indication of everything but failure. This is why WB decided to show their middle finger to the RT critics and decided to go ahead with Snyder.
        I'm advising you to rely on your best intellect to follow those sites that are not misleading or misrepresenting data.

        understanding you correctly.
        I’m not sure what your point is in showing that RT is more
        than metacritic. That just seems to reinforce that the movie failed. You’re
        saying if the movie had a lesser number of critics on RT the score would’ve
        been better? And like Scotty used to say – if my grandmother had wheels she
        would be a wagon. It’s not the amount of critics that you should be looking at;
        it’s the nature of their scores. Statistically speaking, the more critics you
        have the less variances you have and a truer score can be obtained.
        And who decides what is a “top-rated critic”? Then we get
        into more variances.
        I have to disagree with you about many of the critics rated
        a score above 50 for BvS – if they had the aggregate score would’ve been higher
        than 4.9 if there were “many” that had rated above 50. And I’m not sure what
        the thinking is that 50 is such a great score – that’s a D- at best. Looking at
        the user score where a 3.5 out of five stars required for it to be a “like”,
        that means on a 10 point scale it would have to be a seven out of 10 to equal
        the same rating scale (converting 3.5 and five stars to 35% and 50% and then
        doubling that to reach the hundred percent maximum) to be a “like”.
        The movie doing closer to 900 million only proves that there
        were many fans, including myself, that really wanted to see Superman versus
        Batman story. If you will force me to, I can still find various articles that
        did note the horrific drop in second viewer/repeat viewings of BVS, as well as
        the significant drop in box office sales from opening day weekend to literally
        the next weekend.
        I understand you like BVS – I wish it had been a
        much better movie. But with Snyder apparently wanting to take it in a “new
        direction” – he seriously ignored canon. Superman doesn’t snap necks. Please
        don’t make me pull out the Richard Donner cut of Superman 2 if we are going there.
        Batman is supposed to be a genius level intellect – and is reduced to firing
        indiscriminately into cars and killing people. This is what people have a
        problem with – the dark darkity dark dark. I understand that many people get
        upset when changes are made to their favorite characters – this wasn’t a change.
        This is an outright ignoring, lambasting, pooch screwing. And unfortunately now
        that we’ve established this genre it will continue into JL

        Well, 27 as a score, reflects the percentage number of critics from the total who gave scores above 60 as the distinction from rotten. I hope that is clear.

        Either you spilled the beans there or maybe ignored the fact that how an aggregate score metric works. A score like 4.9 comes about when you have still had more harsh scores in the range of 1s and 2s coupled with lesser no of 8s and 9s. What keeps it closer to 4.9 is the consistently higher number of scores in the 50s.
        This is why metascore is usually lesser than RT tomatometer. If not convinced, visit metacritic again and see how many mixed responses(marked in yellow) are there with respect to negative and positive and it still ended up at 44 with 51 critics in total.
        In the case of RT, what would a low score of 27 represent in place of what should have ideally been a 49?
        A movie that scored horribly lower because only very few gave it above 60. How much more skewed this could get?
        I'm not claiming that 50 is a great score. It's just that both percentage and aggregate score doesn't hold up well on the same scoring meter.

        Clearly more number of critics becomes an issue for the tomatometer scale.
        Now that I've explained things above, it signifies the importance of how aggregate scoring should be prioritized above rotten/fresh tomatometer scale. There won't be the issue of more or less number of critics then.

        RT is technically flawed. I can talk about this all day. They post percentage and aggregate in the same region. It doesn't take so much to find where the flaw is indeed. When a movie with 27 on tomatometer scores 4.9/10 as aggregate, it's misrepresenting data.         A significantly broken film managed to get a 7 on IMDB. A 7 on Metacritic user and a 66 on RT audience. Are the audience broken? t's just that I can't stand the skewed representation of a movie on that site. BvS yet stands as the fourth top grosser of 2016, does much more better than what a Marvel movie like Iron Man 2 did in the first phase. It clearly stands as an average to good movie( I'd blame the shoddy editing being a crucial factor for critics), since the ultimate edition rights those wrongs mostly. What drags the film backward to the average is the Doomsday act.

We just can't create that much buzz with fans on either imdb or metacritic. Sorry I follow metacritic more which states that this movie is an average fare. Well I rated it like 7/10.
        Generally, Superman returns is such a bore

        but see where it landed in the audience score.

        I have my own complaints for the movie too, but yet to me it doesn't belong to the category of significantly broken film as critics have put it and clearly no bias when I can award a score like 7/10 (8/10 for ultimate cut) for all its quality. Why would my positive score be a selectively biased approach?
        A significantly broken film will have tough time recouping production investment and should end up as a disaster for the studios like Independence Day Resurgence for instance. In the case of BvS, it was clearly a profitable venture for WB but maybe not as big as MOS. Avengers 2 wasn't as big as Avengers 1 and Disney executives didn't want us to see it as a failure. It grossed enough, but to them it's still a miss.

        Oh I agree about a few things that should have been left out of BvS. The Kent scene didn't fit...if you want to nitpick...but it was a touching scene nonetheless. I'm sure that scene will fit in better in the 3 hour ultimate cut edition. My main issue with some of the criticism from the "pro critics " is that it was waaaaay over the top and poisonous. I mean after reading some of them. They just sounded like some hating troll on these message forums. It was very unusual to read and it ridiculously over the top and out of control.

    More important point: Civil War will have overwhelming positive word of mouth. Not going to see an 80% decline in week two sales. This film will have legs and a far higher percentage of return viewers. Civil War will top BvS's box office after week two or three. There's really no comparison here. BvS probably did more damage do the brand's future than its profits can cover, unless there's a very positive turn around and reception for Suicide Squad.

    The main point is that people have to work today or go to school. Not everyone is willing to go to see a 7-10 showing with work the next day. Friday was huge for BvS because of pre-sales and Good Friday giving people the day off. Just a factor to consider.

  It's also the summer break for many people, like myself (though it's also finals week for others), but BvS's Thursday opening was also on Easter Weekend, which is both a pro and con too. Too many factors to really figure out who has the real edge. But on the long term, CW will outpace BvS if nothing else because it goes on over the beginning of summer break while BvS continued over the school year.

  It's also fair to point out that BVS has little to no real competition. It had a great opening for those reasons. But people didn't want to watch it a second time because it's a bad movie. It'll be interesting to see the final box office results for both theatrical runs.

It doesn't matter CA:CW will blow right pass BvS not only this weekend but this is a movie that will clear 1 billion the way most DC fans expected BvS to. It's a superior film from start to finish and the word of mouth will be very strong with this movie as well along with a 92% RT score will also help.     all though CW storytelling was a better understanding, the ending just feels
    like a waste of time. the storys problems and conflicts could of basically been resolve with a "talk". all just felt like they shouldve never even fought, and kind of a waste to put all those characters in. action was great though.
    in BVS, least it took the "martha"(and we know how much that means to batman) to help resolve, even though it was really quick...
    and a death to make him realize he was wrong.
    made more sense to "resolve" the conflict between man & god and then have a bigger threat in the ending of the film.
    im not saying bvs was perfect
    far from perfect
    the story was a bit off with all the subplots
    but it did make sense in the long run
    bvs wasnt a promising film
    but it definitely set a path for the upcoming films while
    i felt civil war slightly missed that point
    and wasted a lot of time fighting each other.

      The Martha bit was a joke & laughable. Clark refuses to call his mom "mom"? I knew why Tony was angry. I knew why Steve was angry. T'Challa, Zemo, etc. everyone had a purpose. & going back to Martha, what about all of the people he did murder? Their moms aren't named Martha? & why not kill Lex anyway?
      Anyhow, my hope with them learning from Civil War isn't to copy the ingredients but to find better ingredients for their own films. They focused less on who the characters were in BvS & more about being a substitute philosophy instructor, whom ended up looking foolish.

I just want a quality film & I'll go against the mold a little more, I thought Ben Affleck was just Ben Affleck in the movie. His performance honestly did nothing for me. Chasing Amy, Dogma, & The Town...GREAT performances. This one was just meh. I've been begging for Jeffrey Dean Morgan to take the role...but this is my future. :***(

        I know their moms' names are Martha. I actually realized that last year when discussing with someone & made the faux pas.
        But he didn't even bother trying to save his mother. He even wasted time to talk to Lois after talking to aLex. He hung over him menacingly instead of just trying to tell him.
        But that part of Bucky was deep inside of him. Bruce had no relation or care about Clark/Supes. He just had murder in his eyes.

        Don't know, it was cut out from the movie. He just knows that something is up with Bruce when he heard Alfred talking to Bruce and that Bruce does not like Superman. And maybe he learned from Lex when Lex was mentioning that he manipulated Bruce over the months.
        Superman did not fake his death. He's in a coma which is exactly what happened to him in the comics.
        And it's already established people know that Superman would save Lois. He didn't someone to find out about his mother. And, unlike Lois, Martha didn't scream for help when she was being kidnapped. Lois at least had screamed when she was pushed off the building, and Superman probably she knew that she was gonna interview a drug lord at the beginning of the movie.

        It was also established he would save his mother (start of the zod fight in MoS). Martha did scream once they grabbed her. & I think he focused on her heartbeat in that MoS scene?

        The Kryptonians knew about Martha, but Superman didn't think anyone else would find out that she's his mom. Not to mention, people have seen Superman and Lois interact with each other multiple times in MoS.
        And Martha didn't scream until after they had already covered her mouth. She didn't scream when she was running from them.
        And Superman heard Lois pounding on the rubble that was covering the water hole. Sound does travel in water.

        Clark didn't refuse to call his mom "mom", he knew what the name Martha ment to Bruce so he took the chance.
        Their moms weren't in danger, their moms surely wouldn't care about their kids seeing they were criminals (and they weren't young so they had been in the criminal life for some time now).
        Kill Lex when, kill Lex why ? Batman got the kryptonite, that's what he needed, he didn't know anything about Doomsday so he had no reason to consider Lex as a threat

        We can definitely agree that I did not understand the movie. It took too much time on its faux philosophy lesson instead of focusing on any semblance of story.
        After floating above him & confrontationally walking towards him, did he start to even reason with the guy. Then, instead of saying anything during the fight, he'd rather prove his machismo with "stay down, if I wanted it, you'd be dead already." But he would rather stop one dude as opposed to multiple dudes with machine guns & rocket launchers, so I can't expect much from this superman.
        But that's not Batman. Batman hates criminals. Why would he ever consider himself one? I'm not interested in Batman not being Batman. That's a lame reason to no longer be a criminal. So, let me get this straight: not criminal. Alien comes in, destroys buildings, kills innocents. Angry about this so then kills & brands people to be killed. Alien has a mom & her name is Martha. Won't kill anymore. Fin.? I don't follow.
        When does any of this mean that Superman won't go crazy & kill everyone like he was afraid of!?! & who should I like in that movie? Very little made sense in this movie.

        The name Martha did two things to Bruce : if he killed Clark then Bruce would become the Joe Chill ( it didn't happen with the criminals because there was nothing to trigger that feeling, here there's the name which makes Bruce remember once again his mother's death) ; and also the fact that Martha was in danger, Bruce made the link between the two mothers, indeed he then said "Martha won't die tonight" (or something like that). He doesn't start and then stop killing just because there's an alien, the alien is just a trigger that made Bruce change, he got tired of all the criminals and now the God-like alien who kills thousands, he even got blinded so he became a criminal himself without noticing it but then Superman made him realise who he was before (the good guy who helps everyone and could even sacrifice himself), Bruce saw himself in Superman (with the Martha thing and the good guy thing) so he came back to "normal". Sorry if my argumentation is messy, I'm not english, I hope you understand my point of view

        Martha was just one problem among many that I had with the film. I guess I'll have to live with the fact that I'll never have a perfect Batman in a live action movie.

        The Martha thing wasn't a problem for me, it was like you say the execution, it was too quick but at least Snyder made it so the spectator has to understand it himself, it's not explicit, indeed there's a bit of thinking in there. I'm very happy with the movie and for me the flaws disappear when I watch it, but you still have a chance with the Batfleck solo movie directed, produced and written by batfleck himself!

        It's worse to me because he brought in Terrio & probably made changes to the script & we still got that movie. His Batman was possibly the worst live screen version of Batman (haven't seen clooney's since the first time). I'll even state that Perry & Alfred were both more enjoyable bits of that film for me.

        Sorry but i really disagree with you on this, Terrio should've been brought in for the full 100% not just a part. Goyer did most of the screenwriting that's why the movie's narrative was so messy. Zack Snyder is responsible for this which screenwriters and what parts of it will be written by them.

        Well i do agree with you on MoS but not on Bats, you should know that Batfleck plays an older and bittered Bats just like the one from Frank Miller's TDKR and i must say that he did a good job. I thought that Snyder brought in Terrio in order to improve the screenwriting but somehow he hasn´t done a good job, BvS has even more flaws than MoS but i still like both movies for what it is.

        I dont think the word martha was the actual catalyst for him to change. I believe the whole fight was full of symbolism of him becoming the vilians he has been trying to stop. Using the kryptonite smoke grenade he said ' you know what that is that's fear' for him not to release that symbolises scare crow and then at the end he is already talking about his parents which puts him in his frame of mind. At this point his mask has been damaged showing half his face symbolising two face again relating to villians he has already fought. Its the statement of superman, which to my point of view shows that superman is trying to catch him off guard ' he says you are letting him kill martha' it is this that batman starts to get the relize his role has changed he has become the person that had killed his parents. That is why i think superman uses martha because of that line. Making batman think of what is going on so its not just the name its his actions its everything he has done to show this alien is not human but finding out he has lost his own humanity. So i believe its filled with alot of symbolism in this fight. I like both films and both have flaws but i do like the rawness in bvs. I do wish however that maybe they did the solo batman film before and mos2 before, which wad the advantage of civil the depth came from the other movies before

        The ONE point is that Superman has a MOTHER from EARTH. Not that she shared Martha's name. If she had any other name, it would harken back to the FACT that Superman has EARTHLY parents. The fact you missed that simple fact is just a matter of nitpicking. Also, Batman was so jaded by YEARS of fighting that he had lost his way, had become a "good man" who had turned "cruel", to use Alfred's words, simply because he was lost and had lost his sense of humanity, which is why that part was so important. It showed that not matter how SUPER he was, he was still a MAN, and man who had grown up on EARTH. It was really not that hard a concept to grasp at all.

BvS also beat Age of Ultron, the original avengers, Jurassic World previews as well but it doesn't really mean much for the opening weekend. BvS was very frontloaded. Marvel films blow up on Saturdays. that 25 mill number pretty much means Civil War is gonna open to at least $190 mill, going by previous films.

True, but Batman v Superman also had the highest recorded dropoff rate, of any superhero movie. So essentially, while the hype for BvS may have been greater, once people realized how bad it was, they stopped going.

        I disagree. Word of mouth also plays a large role in whether a film succeeds or fails. This movie was a mess. As a long-time DC fan, I was hugely disappointed. The plot was incoherent, side stories were left unresolved, the characterization was awful... I could go on. If the general audience liked a movie, it would have reflected in box office income. Look at transformers, critically panned on all fronts, but audiences still went to go see it. Critics hold some weight, but they aren't all-powerful. In this case however, they were absolutely correct.

        It's a huge disappointment when you consider two or three of the most iconic superheroes of all time on the screen together for the very first time. The DC execs are furious, they barely made a profit.
        Now compare this. Deadpool is rated R, didn't release in China and doesn't have 3D and it's only 100 million short of BvS' total. Now tell me how that isn't a disappointment.
        Let me add some more statistics/records: BvS broke the record for the biggest drop in box office history in its opening weekend from Friday-Sunday. Then it broke another record, dropping from first weekend to 2nd weekend 69%, biggest drop of any superhero film, including Fantastic 4.

    It may have been "5 minutes" but it had more at stake in those few minutes than the entire airport scene. I really enjoyed Civil War but every action scene, outside of the last fight scene, was a stake-less procession.

        That "spoiled" fight was still about two guys trying to kill the other and if you didn't think Batman was going to kill Superman when he had the spear in his hands, for even a second, then you weren't paying attention. We all knew Batman and Supe's weren't going to kill each other but I honestly though Civil War was going to be as close as we've come to either Cap or Tony dying. That was the most disappointing part for me in an otherwise really good and brilliant movie.

        You guys don't know what makes a great film, it isn't just action and pretty shots. It's about the story, the structure, the emotions, the characters. And guess what? BvS failed in every department. How could you defend the sloppy editing? How could you defend the unnecessary subplots that add to nothing? How could you defend the absolute butchery of these characters we love. I love film, not just superhero movies and I bet the most of you ONLY watch superhero films.         Exactly, BvS as a movie to see in theaters is great because of the CGI and cinematography but it failed so hard plotwise which is an issue with Snyder as a director, Sucker Punch was another example. Look, everything doesn't have to be spoonfed, i agree that you have to do a little thinking but overanalyzing a movie is always a bad thing.

        Well, I'm a gigantic fan of the Civil War comic. After I read it (nearly all 106 issues in the event - have you read it?) my head was spinning for days and I just couldn't wait to see those themes in the movie. I loved it, with one of my favourite issues ever being Casualties of War (Iron Man/Captain America) where they sit down one final time to settle their differences. The Winter Soldier, being my favourite Marvel film, also got another watch out of me before the movie as well as Iron Man 1, another excellent Marvel offering.
        In the end I thought Civil War was just okay. I was seriously disappointed. It was nothing earth shattering and largely felt like Avengers 2.5 rather than anything risky or trying to shake up the MCU. Far from Marvel's best. I'd rank it 7/13 in the MCU.

        I hate number scores, so I'll say Deadpool is my favourite CBM this year. BvS was a decent but flawed movie that was harshly criticised for things other Marvel movies have done worse. I only loved BvS because I've waited my whole life to see comic book Batman on a movie screen. Civil War was meh. Black Panther, Spider-Man and Ant-Man were my favourite aspects of the movie, they were fantastic, but I was let down.

        Seeing as how you so badly want someone to argue about it. I love both Marvel and DC, with Batman and Spider-Man being my favourite heroes ever since I was a toddler. I don't give a shit what critics say (after all they are the ones who praised Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Age of Ultron and Thor 2, which are some of the worst CBMs for me) and neither do I go into any of these comic movies with an agenda. I just watch them and get an opinion.
        I'll judge the DCEU more closely once Justice League comes out, so we have more than 2 movies to work with and the first team-up offering.
        If the MCU came alive with The Avengers, a decent movie but great geek event, then I'll wait for Justice League. Even if it did disappoint WB that BvS didn't make $1 billion or get critical acclaim, it's still a commercial success and something they'll evaluate next year.

        I imagine BvS disappointed WB at the box office (which I stated) and is obviously a critical failure, but it's technically still a commercial success by turning a profit and entering the list of the top 50 highest grossing movies of all time.
        The degree to which it is a success is obviously up for debate. But I highly doubt the entire DCEU is crumbling tomorrow.

        Again, the film is a disappointment in many regards but it is 'technically' successful commercially for WB. Or at least since you're a creature of negativity I can say that it's not a disappointment enough that the DCEU is ready to crumble.
        You cannot enter the top 50 highest grossing films of all time and come out ready to close the DCEU. That makes no sense whatsoever. Not to mention, as quoted above, there are plenty of other ways to squeeze more out of BvS.
        So you can put the apocalypse on hold, and we'll see where the DCEU stands after Justice League, their 5th movie.
        If Marvel took 5 movies to build their universe, DC should get more or less the same opportunity.
        But feel free to spread doom and gloom like a plague.

        When you have in the title, the names of the two most iconic superheroes of all time and it can't exceed 1 billion, you know you're in trouble. No matter how much you want to spin it, it isn't going to salvage this piece of abomination. The film was a complete failure. You add Batman and Wonder Woman to the film and that adds 200 million over Man of Steel, is that a success in your mind? The two most iconic superheroes of all time, hell 3 if you want to add Wonder Woman, on the big screen for the very first time and couldn't surpass a billion is a complete failure. Warner Bros. will say anything to make it look like they aren't disappointed, in fact they are and you can add Ben Affleck to that list

It won't fall short at the end of its box office numbers. This is a movie that will blow by a billion. If Zack and WB thought they had pressure with BvS that pressure just added an elephant on their back for JL, because everyone will be comparing the critical and financial success of CA:CW to it next year.

220 million opening weekend, you heard it here first. Interestingly, the showing I was at, wasn't sold out. I was a bit surprised, there were like 4-5 empty rows. But the word of mouth is going to boost the box office total this weekend. It's still a far, FAR better film than BvTRASH.

        it actually is, the DCEU is structured to be one big story spanning multiple movies, that's why SS trailers are making reference to events from MoS and BvS, mentioning superman and all, even luthor is already linked to amanda waller, there was a promotional "interview" stating that; its all connected, so expect SS to fill BvS "blanks" as those were intentional, not the plotholes critics argue.
