Synopsis

Gordon and Bruce question Professor Strange about Project Chimera, which leads Strange to send the newly resurrected Galavan to confront Gordon. Meanwhile, Nygma investigates who Professor Strange is in the all-new “Wrath of the Villains: Azrael” episode of GOTHAM airing Monday, May 2 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (GTH-219) (TV-14 L, V)

I'm glad I've stuck with Gotham, even though it had hard times. It's so entertaining and memorable that it doesn't matter that it's stupid.

The mods are all long gone though.

What does that mean about the mods?
I loved the Elfman-esque music that played as Bruce watched Azrael flit about.

  And I kinda hate that in this universe Azrael inspires Batman. Kind of a crappy turn. But oh well.
  The mods are the moderators here. They used to comment on Gotham regularly. They don't anymore. Probably stopped watching.

    I think they stopped, but I thought Season 2 was MUCH better. There was only 1 episode I didn't like. I think it's great this season.

      They seem to have embraced the inherent silliness, and the show is better for it. All it needs now is a somewhat bigger budget, so it can pull of more weird stuff.

A guy dressed like a Bat is going to seem pretty tame compared to an undead former mayor dressed as a knight. Great episode, Gotham is killing it this season.

Good episode. I love how young Bruce was enamored by the caped Azrael, great foreshadowing for the future Batman.

This episode was not bad. I'm still having difficulty enjoyin' this season compared to the first season. Seems this season is all over the place.

This episode was very well done, I especially liked how we got to see Riddler investigating. I also thought the inspiration Azreal provided Bruce was interesting, and I really liked his costume.

I enjoy Gotham, it's always entertaining ever since it embraced its own craziness. I'm perfectly okay with Freeze, Hugo Strange, Dumas, Penguin, Riddler and such villains existing before Batman because they technically did, but I will be honest and say it's extremely difficult to reconcile with my love of Batman and ignore that Gotham is going to a crazy hell before his arrival.

One of the greatest themes in Batman for me has always been that his arrival gave rise to a new kind of madness in Gotham, the supervillains that needed to rise in order to face him. Balance, and the idea that hope comes at a price. Could write essays on this.

There are times where I love the craziness, and times where I wonder if the series may have been better as a grounded thriller. Other times I wonder whether they've just gone too far back in time and should have started at Zero Year instead...but I imagine DC didn't want two Batmans like they're going to have with The Flash real soon.

Gotham is just a weird apple. I enjoy it, it annoys me at times, I struggle to reconcile with some of its decisions, but I never regret watching it, and I'm interested to see where it goes. Inner conflict!

With Gotham as it is right now I'm finding it hard to see how they'll cope without a time jump, or how Bruce will be able to leave for almost a decade given that the city is in this state already.

I also really feel that there is an amazing opportunity here to tell the Court of Owls investigation that Bruce went on as a child looking into his parents' murder, documented in the early stages of the New #52 universe. That would make for a really fantastic couple of episodes in my books, but they've already taken such a weird path with the Wayne murders story that I doubt they have room to do this now.

Perhaps once Gordon becomes commissioner or has been commissioner for a while things calm down. Galavan and Strange seem to be the ones creating all the chaos so once they are taken care of maybe the "normal" type of criminals take over again. When Batman shows up, the craziness begins again.
