on 'The Flash' movie loses director Seth Grahame-Smith

Seth Grahame-Smith, who was set to direct and write Ezra Miller's The Flash movie, has left the project due to "creative differences" according to The Hollywood Reporter. This would have been his directorial debut.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Warner Bros. plans to keep his script as they search for another director to take over.

This isn't the first director shake-up in the DC Extended Universe. Michelle MacLaren was originally onboard to direct Wonder Woman, but left the project soon after being hired, also citing "creative differences". Patty Jenkins took the reigns and is currently directing Gal Gadot in Paris for that movie.

            I know, that's why I was surprised too. There's an article on Ign.com, birthmovies.com and some other sites reporting it, but it's just a rumor. They're also saying that there's a lot of fighting behind the scenes between the execs and Snyder.

      I think it's not so much that having creative differences is wrong...it's that WB was crowing about how much freedom they gave their directors. One wouldn't expect them, of all studios, to lose 2 directors, just 2 movies into the DCCU.

    WB really has problems keeping their initial choices for the DCEU don´t they? two directors already having jumped ship when they have barely released two films. Hopefully this trend does not continue (Though there are probably a lot of people that hope that this happens with Snyder.....)

            I know a lot of people who only watch a movie once in the theater. myself and nearly all my friends included. Most people don´t need to watch a movie several times within a month. My best friend even refuses to watch a movie for years after he has seen it once. and most movie goers are not such hardcore fans that they need to see a movie over and over within a few weeks.

How many times do I have to repeat that to you in order for you to understand? Now there are reports that the DC execs are furious and fighting with Hack Snyder behind the scenes, just a rumor for now but we'll see.

Numbers like, breaking records such as the biggest drop in BO revenue in the opening weekend from Friday-Sunday then a 69% drop in the 2nd weekend, which is the biggest drop of any superhero film even worse than Fantastic 4.

That's only 100mil over Deadpool which is rated R, no 3D prices and didn't release in China. Now that's saying something. Now try explaining how the movie was a huge success and very popular.             He was good as Batman, only they didn't give us very much of the good parts. Killing bad guys? Using guns? Where's the cool imaginative toys? Where's the detective work? Snyder gave us blinky and loud, covered by some bad lighting. There was a great Night Owl/Jupiter scene in Watchmen where they're in the prison. Excellent sequence. Batman got one good one, but it wasn't anywhere near as tight, as you saw many of the stunt guys just standing around waiting for their turn to be punched.

          I will say that I disagree with you on a few points. I felt the writing was MoS weakest point. Overall, that is in my top three CBM. BvS was also spectacular but was overly ambitious and lacked on key areas of development which will hopefully be remedied in the ultimate cut. However, a movie shouldn't need an ultimate cut to make it coherent.

            I think Man of a Steel suffers from his style. That tornado scene was one of the most stupidest and most ridiculous scenes ever! And while the Smallville fight scene was awesome but I felt taking the fight from open farms to crowded town was done for Snyder's hunger of destruction. And then there's the CGI shitfest of the climax fight scene., one of the most boring fight scenes ever.
            And the dialogue was so so, it was cheesy at times, and then it'd get to pretentious rhetoric lines, it was a mess.
            I'd have liked the movie and forgiven everything if they'd have shown a scene of Superman helping rebuild Metropolis and rescuing the injured instead of that dick scene of making Superman even more unlikeable with that satellite destruction scene.
            They didn't need to make an apology for MoS in BvS. There were other ways to introduce Batman.

    It was odd to hear that they got a guy who has never directed a movie before to helm a big superhero movie. Maybe that's happened before and turned out great, but going with someone more experienced seems like a safer bet to me.

        I guess they were copying Marvel, i.e. hiring low key directors that didn't have huge movies behind them. What they've missed was that you need good understanding of your characters and better writing to pull it off. Now they're panicking and I'm not sure if they still understand where their problems lie.

      Marvel did this several times actually. Joss Whedon and Shane Black had only directed one movie before Marvel hired them, Spider-Man director Jon Watts has only directed two films same as Black Panther director Ryan Coogler. Even Marvels big guns, the Russo brother did only two films before they started at Marvel and both of those movies were indie comedy productions.

          Plus directors have to start someplace. Snyder had directed nothing when he was chosen to do Dawn of the Dead which turned out great. Michael Bays first movie Bad Boys made Will Smith an actionstar.

        Yeah, but ALL of those had experience in the movie making business. Whedon had created and directed (some episodes) of a ton of shows, Shane Black had written and produced a ton of movies before, and the Russo bros had directed 2 movies and worked on tv shows before. This guy has zero experience in any of this. This is really good news.

    Given that he is most well known for clunkers like "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" and "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," it's probably a good thing he's no longer directing this movie.

        I disagree. I know the Flash movie should be and will be a lot lighter than majority of the other DC films, but CW-level comedy/humour would feel way out of place and more suitable in the MCU. Also Zack doesn't want Kevin Smith involved in the DCEU so that's not going to happen

            Was the action in Winter Soldier too light for you? It sure as hell wasn't. The same directors are on board and I just watched a clip of Buckeye fighting Black Panther. Those 40 seconds alone was a far better action sequence than the disastrous fight between Batman and Superman. The title, Batman V Superman, you'd imagine they would have a couple of fight or a pretty long one. The fight lasted 5-7 minutes and it was extremely one-sided.

            I agree with you for most of Marvel's films, I hate most of them. I'm not a big fan of the Avengers which is so fcking overrated. Winter Soldier isn't silly at all.

            They should have at least had 2 fights, the movie is titled BvS after all. You'd think that they would be fighting throughout. Even their motivations to fight each other were laughable and the reason they stop....so bad. Yea, they exchange some words at Lex's place, it isn't enough.

            The fight choreography was terrific no doubt. Definitely one of the best. But the scene itself was a bit stupid.
            The problem with that scene was that Batman took atleast 3-4 bullets but it didn't look like it hurt him. Maybe it was armor beneath but whatever.
            And the scene lacked thrill and stake. It didn't look like Batman is getting hurt all with his unlimited stamina (cue in the Batfleck=Deathstroke theory).
            KGBeast is stupid as fuck, his men are getting beaten down and blown up and he just stands there doing nothing. Any good villain would have burned Martha down seeing the Bat is still alive.
            While the actual fight is very well choreographed, the overall scene lacks substance. And Batman is essentially a Punisher here, then why bother with fists? Might as well carry a gun and lay waste to everyone?

            No go on the Jokes...every trailer has some pretty awful jokes after, during, and before each fight. Its the MCU formula, I'm sure Disney broke this down to them pretty clear...Russo brothers or not.

            The first part of gotg is fun but there's not much thrill after that.
            there goes the bad guys, they recover, they save the day. The end.

            But I love the soundtrack and chris pratt, everything else is meh

            Neither did Snyders work take away failures like Sucker Punch. Most directors who have done masterpieces also have a couple of really bad movies under their belt. Look at Ridley Scott, George Romero, John Carpenter, dePalma, Spielberg or Scorsese

            He hasn't made a good film in almost 10 years. He has no experience with blockbusters. The only thing he can get right is comedy. He doesn't fit into a DCEU where directors are supposedly given freedom. Without studio control he'll screw it up.

    I'm actually ok with this. Keeping him would be such a big risk for WB, one they can't afford. Hopeful they'll get a well established/good director like they did for Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Suicide Squad.

        It is still important. $100-150 million is still a big budget. The CW Flash has set a high bar, it is expected from the film to better it.

    This is neither good news nor bad news for me. I've been wondering why WB hired Seth Grahame-Smith who literally has no experience directing, but then again, I was willing to see him try. But now that he left, WB should seize this chance for a safer bet. The Flash is too big a movie to take such a risk.
