Zack Snyder to produce 'Wonder Woman', Michelle MacLaren signs on to direct

Breaking Bad's Michelle MacLaren has signed on to direct Gal Gadot in the 2017 Wonder Woman movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. MacLaren will also work closely with the writers, who haven't been announced yet, to put together the script.

Zack Snyder has already directed Gal Gadot in the role, and he'll be producing Wonder Woman along with his wife Deborah Snyder and Charles Roven.

Gal Gadot will make her Wonder Woman debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, and then star in her own movie on June 23, 2017.

Best choice possible! i was cheering for her, happy for her get the job. And the Snyders and Rover overwtaching the project, for sure will be another great movie!

  Not a bad choice and Snyder producing will have people arguing for and against him I'm sure, but the most important point still stands: Gadot cannot act so there's no point in being excited.
  She is a model. She doesn't care about the craft of acting. She refuses to gain any real weight or muscle which shows you that WB and Gadot both don't care, not really. She can't even speak English properly. Sorry, but it's true. Is she taking acting or English lessons? Not that I've heard of.
  All of you white boys saying Asians can't be the leads in films because they have accents can suck on that. Oh and Gadot is getting old, won't she be turning 30 or 31 by the time Wonder Woman shoots?
  Yikes, it's all downhill for women after 25. I'd rather my Wonder Woman be talented and young rather than mediocre at acting and on the decline physically. So many young actresses with massive potential and they choose Gadot? Embarrassing. IMO. Bring on the pitchforks.

    Universally fiction? Good one. I mean Gadot has accomplished so much in her acting career. Where does Gadot rank in your mind? I mean she's better than Blunt right? And Lawrence? And Streep? Keep holding on to the belief that Wonder Woman doesn't have to look strong and defend the anorexic model.

      Very classy response. Sorry if I was rude but her casting really offends me. The language barrier, her having little to no acting experience, and she looks nothing like Wondy to me IMO. While she takes a photo once in a while of her exercising, she's not gaining any muscle mass which again irritates me. Just my opinion.

        As a pubescent boy, I never noticed that during the show's original run; mayhap I was distracted ;). However, rewatching the show on MeTV, I have discovered that you are correct. Not everyone gets perfect everything, and they certainly didn't have butt implants in those days, but it's true: Lynda Carter had, and probably still has, no ass. And that does not make her any less beautiful.

      TV is an incubation chamber for film directors, my friend. No guarantee, certainly, but a TV director isn't to be underestimated. Especially in this day and age when TV shows practically amount to once a week, hour long films with lavish budgets that would have been unheard of even ten years ago.

    I said that because it was reported that they were looking specifically at female directors, which would alienate a whole lot of people who could have potentially been a better choice. But you're right, I wouldn't be asking that if they chose a male director. Mostly because a male director couldn't be the best female choice. If they chose a male director, I would instead be asking if they made the best choice and would assume that female directors were in consideration as well. (Also, if you're going to quote someone, you should quote something that was actually said.)

Pure idiocy. Wonder Woman has been one of the hardest properties to adapt for decades. They have tried over and over and over and failed. After all that they turn to some woman who has never directed a movie before simply because she has a vagina between her legs. Wonder Woman deserves a top tier director who is a sure thing to knock this thing out of the park. Why not find a great director and quit worrying about the genitals?

  DC has tried female writers on WW time and time again and they have all bombed miserably. There is just too much pressure on female creators when it comes to handling that character that male creators don't feel. If McLaren was doing Squad and Ayer was doing WW I wouldn't feel nearly as strongly as I do.

    Yes, Gail Simone bombed on that book, which is why she was on it for 4 years, and JMS was a rousing success for his 7 issues.
    If there's a problem with trying to run WW (the book) with a feminine perspective, it's that it's likely to be the only book on the superhero side of the comics shop doing that, and so any girls that DO make it into the store are less likely to wander away from the indie section (where the stories are often a lot better) and find it in the maze of uninteresting (to them) giant boobies covers. It's like trying to run a cap-and-trade petition drive at a NASCAR event; the market is too hard to reach.
    So for the film, I think we can agree on something: we both want it to be a fantastic movie. That starts with a great story, which it sounds like they may not even have yet. Bringing MacLaren in on the ground floor gives me hope that she'll help mold it to be more than just a standard superhero movie, which is what it needs to be. You're right: there's a lot of pressure to get this character and film right, and that goes beyond just being successful with the superhero movie audience; it needs to be a film that goes beyond that. Done right, it should be a film that girls want to go see even if they aren't with their boyfriends, without being one that guys are dragged to because it's her turn to pick. To go way out there, think of it as a film that not only is successful with the standard superhero audience, but also is an attractive lesbian date-night film. I think MacLaren can make that happen, and having the Snyders on board as producers will be invaluable in helping her with the biggest part of the transition: how to effectively use all the money.

  No property is "hard" to adapt if the people involved actually know what they're doing. If Thor can work, then so can WW.

I'm really only familiar with her work on Breaking Bad, but she helmed some of the best episodes of the series so that's encouraging. Before Joss Whedon directed The Avengers he'd mostly done television save for Serenity, and he did ok with that one.

Her involvement with Game of Thrones is what caught my attention. The episodes she's directed are among some of the most critically acclaimed. I'd like to see her bring a similar tone to the movie.
