on Warner Bros. hires 'Wonder Woman' writer to pen Lobo movie

Warner Bros. has hired Wonder Woman writer Jason Fuchs to pen a Lobo movie, The Wrap reports. Sources indicate that he'll begin from scratch on the Lobo script, meaning the script that was being worked on back in 2012 is likely scrapped.

This news suggests that Warner Bros. is very happy with the script that Fuchs wrote for Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman movie, which is due out in June 2017.

Details are still very slim at this point, but it seems like Warner Bros. is still kicking around the idea of a Lobo movie. Thanks, Deadpool?

The "Deadpool effect" is absolutely a real thing after this.

Uhh no, rated R comic book movies existed long before Deadpool.

...but Deadpool made it popular, let's be honest here...give credit where credit is due. I saw the movie, and personally gave it a 4 out 5 since it was a bit too comedic for my taste, but I can see why people loved it. I think Deadpool was great for the comicbook movie genre, shows creativity and willingness to take risks while others think it is too saturated.

          "made it popular"

I disagree, they just did it at the right time. I believe Watchmen was ahead of it's time and if it came out after the "superhero boom" it would have definitely been more successful.

I completely agree with you. At the same time, the fact is that it did not come out at the right time unfortunately. Watchmen, is a wayyy better movie, I have seen it dozens of times and never get bored, I don't think I could watch Deadpool more than two or three times at best. Anyway, it is what it is.

Perhaps Momoa could play TWO DC characters at the same time. That wouldn't be weird at all. With the lack of news on Black Adam and Shazam! I wouldn't mind if The Rock changed characters, and switched back to Lobo. And of course, Danny Trejo would be great casting.

    1. Kerk Lastnameless Avatar

I never understood the love for Shazam among the adults. I get why the kids would love him, but what's his appeal to you or me, when we have Superman? If they scrap Shazam and replace him with Lobo, I'll be happy.

I think Joe Manganiello will be Deathstroke in Suicide Squad sequel. DAvid Ayer considered him in the first movie but than he sccrapped Deathstroke (they worked before after all):

A good way to use him, in my opinion, would be the way Young Justice used him. He's a great side character. I'd even like to see him on the Supergirl tv show.

A Lobo movie would be interesting. However, I think we are a long ways away from that. The Universe needs to establish itself since he's essentially the greatest bounty hunter known in DC. I can't see this happening until after the Green Lantern Corps movie. He'd be a great villain or secondary villain in a future team up between some of the JL members.

I have just read that most of those reporters and websites that have spread hate towards DC and BvS are not invited to press junket, and now they are all offended because of that. And like I said, anyone who has ever read Deadpool comics knows he's completely devoid of a moral compass. The movie was just a revenge story of him going up against the people who tortured him, which happen to be bad guys. But he's on no one's side.

This is strange. I never thought of Lobo as a character worthy of his own film. I mean has he ever had his own comic? Forgive me, I'm uninformed about his presence in comic books, all I know about him is from the animated series.. Funny character, but still, really? seems like a waste of money.. Instead if they did that Booster Gold movie I keep hearing about, that would be cool.

I mean if they can make something special with Lobo, that I can't imagine at the moment, great. I'll reserve judgement, it's just a script after all. Not like it's green lit for production yet.

      1. LobsterHov Avatar
        LobsterHov

Hmm interesting. I should look into Lobo a bit more.. cuz I'm pondering the financial feasibility of such a character. I'm not aware of any huge fan support for the character the way Deadpool did, so how they market him to the public in such a saturated industry will be important.

        1. Alex Vidal Avatar
          Alex Vidal

Well that's just the thing. I am not saying that he is extremely popular. But he is more popular than Booster Gold and if you think Lobo won't work then I can't see Booster Gold working. However, I think that argument died when GoTG proved it is irrelevant whether they are known or not. Just know how to market your movie. Deadpool did not have enough fans to warrant a 700 million box office, It was the amazing marketing.

            LobsterHovreplying to Alex Vidal

Wonder if it'll be classic Lobo or New 52 Lobo. Primary concern, if this turns out to be true, is I hope the other movies in the pipeline don't get pushed back for this. And I'm someone who likes Lobo very much. I even like both versions of the character even though they are very different.

Also I'm not sure if it'll do very well with main stream audiences. It'll be interesting to see how far this goes. Wonder if it'll be connected the DCEU in a way where he shows up in other movies or if it's just his own thing. Not sure yet if I want to even see him on the big screen with these other characters. And that's not me hating, I like the character. I said similar things about Martian Man Hunter who I freaking love.

Well, it was most probably on the back burner cuz WB wasn't sure if it had potential with the masses. Deadpool's success might have given them some confidence, with real Box Office results to convince them that there is a market for such characters. And remember, it's just a script, they haven't green lit the movie yet. Someone might have had an interesting take on the character, and WB must've been like "You know what, you get a shot.. See if you can come up with something worth making into a film".

      1. BlaqMaq Avatar

most of the Suicide Squad are not really villains per se, more like anti heroes (except Joker of course). Wouldn´t call Lobo a villain either. Dude´s a bounty hunter. he doesn´t care about good or bad.

Except Killer Croc, Harley Quinn, and Captain Boomerang are villains to their respective heros, along with the Joker as you mentioned. Same goes with Slipknot. So maybe Suicide Squad's team isn't fully villain, they have enough to make the squad almost half of them villain driven.

I give you credit on Lobo, he is a bounty hunter.

no Harley is absolutely not a villain anymore. DC has changed her into an all out anti hero. Even Batman leaves her be these days.
