Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman just got some serious competition! Yesterday Paramount Pictures announced that it will release Transformers movies annually for at least the next three years, and Transformers 5 is going head-to-head with Wonder Woman on June 23, 2017.

This is a big deal because while they aren't critically acclaimed, Transformers movies make bank at the box office. The last one, Transformers: Age of Extinction, made over $1.1 billion. It took this long to get a female lead superhero movie made because executives are worried that they won't perform well at the box office. It's important that Wonder Woman opens strong in 2017, which is why I like The Wrap's Jeff Sneider's suggestion.

Mother's Day weekend is in mid-May, so Warner Bros. would just have to move the movie up one month. "Celebrate Wonder Women everywhere". I love it! It'll be interesting to see what moves Warner Bros. makes, if any.

Warner Bros. was put in a similar situation with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It was originally supposed to open this May against Marvel's Captain America: Civil War. They made the wise move of pushing up to March 25 to ensure it had the strongest box office run possible.

  there is no such thing as women's history month. no one celebrates it. also Wonder Woman comes out the day after Father's day which is weird. also i hope wonder woman flops that's the only DC film i want to flop so hard. Batman the rest of the DC are awesome. but wonder woman who comes from an all female race which is stupid and she is feminist/man hater. that's why a lot of people don't like her. I can't wait for Transformers to crush this stupid feminist movie.

June is super crowded. The mothers day angle makes sense, it will also be up against GoTG2 opening the week before though. July, August, September are pretty vacant at the moment

  July has Spider-Man, Jumanji and War of the Planet of the Apes. August maybe a good contender but I doubt WB are gonna move. May is also crowded so its best they keep Wonder Woman their and make Transformers move.

They should move it to Mothers Day without a doubt but Transformers have the nerve to open on Wonder Woman like that garbage ass movies .. But I'm over here not getting over the fact that those fuckers at Hitflix have the tendency to drop Bullshit news and ruin the fun for a lot of people.

    Some people will never stop. That final trailer was MAGNIFICENT. And just think about all these tv spots: They all have been so great. Everything except that second trailer was Amazing. Not good, not great but amazing. This film will make CRAZYYY $$$$$ at the Box Office.

      The fact of the matter is I am gonna go watch it first day no matter what....I just really really want it to be as good as the trailers have made it out to be. Also, if the news is true, i don't want an 'i am legend' kind of situation where WB ends up hastily changing stuff to please people only to make it even worse....although with only 41 days left (who's counting right?), i doubt they will be able to make any significant changes.

        I mean yeah you're right, but he's just not saying that the Studio executives are Nervous, he was also mentioning how there were screenings and how people praised the Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg performance... Yeah you're right that every studio is nervous and even Disney was nervous about SW 7.. I didn't want to believe it like I said but then I was at Collider Page and they were talking about if BvS bombs they might push back Justice League and bring in safer bets like a batman movie and see how the Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad movies do... After they got into depth with things than that's when my head started processing the problems.

I guess I would consider that a huge lack of respect by Paramount Pictures. For that very reason, maybe Warner Bros. shouldn't move the release date. Especially if BvS kicks @$$ next month.

Alice Through The Looking Glass opens on May 23rd but Fox is completely unwilling to move X-Men Apocalypse from May 23rd, in that case I guess WB might not move Wonder Woman as well, especially if Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman turns out to be a stand out in BvS.
But this is just one side of the argument because tent poles like these, they tend to have different release dates in various international markets so internationally it wouldn't be much of a problem, it depends on the kind of release windows they choose for international release.

  I believe it's the 27th for the release date. I don't think Fox is all too worried about that competition because it'll be Memorial Day Weekend. It may hurt a portion of their female demographic but all the kids having a 3-day weekend should make up for that.
  Wonder Woman on the other hand would be the Alice 2 in this comparison to Transformers.

Man, ww has some serious competition now. Transformers is one of the most smartest and one of the most beloved film franchises of all time. Dceu is just starting out, wonder woman isn't nearly iconic enough to stand a chance, wb has shown that they're scared and un confident in this franchise, as proven by an online article by a genius. I don't think they'll want to move because of the WWI angle. Right now they're slotted right after the 100th anniversary of the first American troops arriving in France, and I think they'll want that tie in.

  I think they'll want to tie it in more with Women's History Month, which is in March. It's better they move this movie 3 months up to March 2017 to consummate women's history and celebrate THAT. Plus March is less crowded. It's all too perfect.
  WW is basically a historical figure anyway. Itll break records for sure.
  Make March for DC every year. I'm betting they're going to move WW to March if BvS does well in the same.spot.

As bad as those movies are they do make an absurd amount of money. It makes sense for WB to move WW to a different date. Mother's Day weekend would be fantastic seeing as it would have 3-4 weeks of relatively unopposed competition.

With any luck Wonder Woman destroys Transformers so much that it makes less than half of expected and they never let Bay do another one but reboot the franchise with a director who understands plot and gives a shit about the source material. Would be nice if they start with a War for Cybertron trilogy similar to the games.

Yeah, I would move the release date a bit. People are too familiar with Transformers (even if the franchise is garbage that makes money) and Wonder Woman would need more of a weekend to herself to get people to gravitate to her.
If they do move it, I will not be surprised, it'll be a safe bet for them in the long run.

Transformers is unfortunately a juggernaut franchise, they need should move Wonder Woman. She'll be a hot property after BvS sure, but her first movie shouldn't be made to go up against those odds. Mother's day makes sense actually, they can weave it into their marketing for WW. But yeah they should definitely move it, unless Transformers moves first.

    I feel your passion. But logically speaking, we do not know for sure whether or not the DC franchise or Wonder Woman will be solid enough to take on the Trasnsformers franchise. Yes hopefully Transformers will move, but Warner Bros shouldn't risk it, cause what we do know is Transformers makes big money. I don't want to see Wonder Woman suffer.

Domestically the last Transformer instalment did less than all of the previous ones and domestically made less than The LEGO Movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Winter Soldier that year. So outside of China I think Transformers would be the one to lose more money. That being said I like the Mother's Day idea and we'll get the movie sooner if they do it.

One thing about the Transformer movies is that despite all odds, no matter how much we accuse it to be brainless drivel, they ALWAYS make over a billion dollars. It's like etched in stone. Therefore, I'd like WB to move Wonder Woman.
