Variety has teamed up with ListenFirst Digital Audience Ratings to measure social media trends across platforms like Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, Wikipedia and YouTube. According to their most recent report, Warner Bros. has the most anticipated superhero movies of 2016 with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.

Among the slew of comic book films set for release in 2016, including new "Captain America" and "X-Men" adaptations, early social and digital tracking places "Suicide Squad" and "Batman v Superman" 500% stronger than competitors based on standing at the same point pre-release. "Batman v Superman" is currently the #1 film by volume, followed by "Suicide Squad" and "Deadpool."

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, and Suicide Squad opens this summer on August 5. Based on this social media data, it sounds like Warner Bros. is going to have a big 2016.

i think most marvel movies are decent (with the acceptation of guardians and cap 2 which were great) but is anyone else getting fed up of watching a 2 and half long trailer for the next damn movie!

    I dunno the only film that felt like a trailer was Ironman 2. As in it was a useless film. I honestly don't get the trope. Marvel films leaves you excited for the next one. That's the whole point.

I'm personally shocked that Suicide Squad first trailer has crossed 63 Million views. Second one is almost 37 Million...
Suicide Squad was always the movie I was most hyped for with the cast and the comics being kick ass. But I never would've expected it to have this much hype despite all the Leto naysayers.

It received positive reception by the vast majority of people and it even won the best trailer of 2015 in a Collider poll where Collider blog members, Collider movie talk members and the fans voted. Also, just because the Civil War trailer is better than the Apocalypse trailer doesn't mean I'm not going to show my excitement for Apocalypse. So your logic is flawed.
        However, you keep trying to evade the question. You stated that all it took for you to get excited for Suicide Squad was a well done trailer. Well the comic con trailer for Batman v Superman was well done and I didn't see you raving about it. Not once did I see you say you were excited for the film. So for the third time, why? Answer the question. Quit beating around the bush and answer. If a good trailer got you excited for Suicide Squad then how come when they released a good Batman v Superman trailer you didn't express that excitement for it as well?

And I brought in the comment concerning the trailer to show you that it was well received and therefor most likely a well done trailer.         First off, he never said I HAD to read it...but that's what he suggests when I said I didn't find the trailer interesting; the only logical assumption one can make in context is that reading the comic is a presumed fix for the lukewarm BvS trailer.

        The key difference being: You tried using the critics ratings to somehow try and convince me that I should be disappointed at MoS as if the critics spoke for me. I have my own opinion.
        I simply questioned why your logic didn't follow through. You said all it took for you to get excited for SS was a good trailer and I used the ratings to prove it was well received and therefor a well done trailer. So why didn't I see you raving about it? I asked for your opinion and you could have said "because I did not like the comic con trailer" and that would have been the end of it. But you didn't, you never did and that's not my problem.

The fact is, no matter how many haters (they're actually in the fractional minority), people want to SEE these movies and see them NOW. The hype isn't a figment of collective imagination. Audiences are ready for the Justice League and the eventual explosion of DC on the big screen.

    Not the 2017 - 2020 movies. Remember that both Marvel and DC have a line up of at least 2 movies per year for up to that long. All we know of Star Wars is there will be SW: Rouge One, and SW 8, that's all. Beyond that is anyone's guess. JJAbrams played it safe by ripping off A New Hope for SW 7, he can't do that for 8 and upwards. If he falters in any direction, it will be The Phantom Menace all over again.

        I beg to differ. I honestly don't think SW did it better. It's just that movies has more cultural reach than comic books. Star Wars started off as a film, there has never been a New Gods film so not much fanbase.
        Star wars is definitely more popular, but I was saying it's weird as the star wars fan base should love New Gods just as much as Star Wars.
        Just like how Halo fans are usually Aliens, Star Ship Troopers and Independence Day fans because it inspired the game. Perhaps SW fans think of Lucas as this sorely original guy? I know Bungie has always been vocal about the films and books they love. I dunno.

No surprise really. Marvel fans will have to excuse me but even though they have done a marvelous job (no pun intended) building their cinematic universe.. DC has just always been and will always be the father and Marvel will be the son. DC is just more iconic. People from all ages grew up with DC either with comics, cartoons, TV, movies, toys, cards and/or games. Marvel just barely entered the playing field. That however, doesn't erase years of constant domination by DC across pretty much all fields.
Of course there is going to be more anticipation for anything DC related. Add to that the fact that we get Marvel movies every year, people will also want something new and DC has been absent for a bit. DC is like PlayStation and Marvel is the XBox. Sure, the Xbox has done a lot of progress recently but the PlayStation will always be the most iconic and the father of the two.

  I think a better comparison would be DC is nintendo and marvel playstation or xbox. Since DC was king before the 90's, but when marvel started bringing it, it started to sell more comic books than dc (and has done so pretty consistently since the 90's, non-stop). The fact that they had more studios to work on their movies, also helped, since they brought even more awareness to their brand, while DC only had one movie studio (though one of the biggest). DC now is trying to get to higher ground, much like Nintendo is absolutely struggling with this new generation. We'll see in March how awaited this movie really is.
  Don't get me wrong, though! Man of Steel made more money than any MCU phase 1 movie except The Avengers, it's just that Marvel Studios has created a very powerful brand, that's been making tons of cash non-stop, even when the product is mediocre, and has established a lot of good-will with that.

    Correct, but comic book readers are not the biggest part of the general movie audience. Therefor, minor things like games, TV shows and cartoons are what really give it the boost. The only reason I did not say Nintendo is because you are wrong about one thing; DC is not struggling with this generation. DC still dominates every single area except movies. Marvel sells more comics right now but you can hardly call it a "domination" considering DC is alive and well, and only a short and hardly noticeable distance behind Marvel.

      Well, if you check out comic book monthly sales, Marvel sells more every single month, and this happens since the 90's. I do agree that the comic book readers are a very small part of the general audience, and DC has had a much better animation department since forever, and has been doing really well in the gaming department for years, whereas Disney seems to not be worried about Marvel's gaming potential for some reason (the best marvel games in recent years have actually been released by WB, in the form of the Lego games, ironically). WB simply did not release as many movies as Marvel, and Marvel Studios took advantage of a pretty lackluster release schedule for super hero movies, and made it's brand incredibly strong. They have been making tons of money for years now, and I really hope we start to see WB/DC bringing their A game (hopefully with some better directors and writers going forward), and Marvel shaking their now tired formula due to the new-found cinematic universe competition.

        Exactly, but all of which I said still stands. This is why there is more anticipation for DC. As for the comics, if you read my comment you can see that I said that it's true but that doesn't mean DC is doing bad in that department. They are not getting dominated by Marvel. The top 10 selling comics are always split with 60:40% with DC. Nothing compared to the domination that DC has everywhere else other than film.

    Cinematic Universe = Lots of Movies sharing the same Universe
    Let's be honest. Guardians of the Galaxy, without that Cinematic Universe (that got build for years) backing it up, wouldn't even do half of Man of Steel.
    How about Man of Steel and Iron Man? Now that's a fair comparison.
    Another example. If Ant-Man was the first movie, it would have a decent box office. Lower than Iron Man for sure.
    So, it's all about building a universe to back up characters like Guardians, characters which were unknown to the public audience.
    It's that simple.
    Thanks to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad gets an equal hype and interest. That's freaking amazing.

  I've been DC since Superman died. I spent my adolescence being the one DC guy in a crew of Marvel kids. I can tell you now, Marvel was far more relevant then. I was ragged on for loving Superman who was 'dead' and 'boring'. Now the tables have turned and I can only feel vindicated. Marvel is a comic book publisher. DC is American history.

Well, to be fair, BvS trailers started coming out almost a year before it's release, while Civil War's first trailer was 6 months before release. It's pretty normal that BvS has more interest or buzz around it at the same point pre-release, WB started marketing the shit out of it way sooner than the usual, and the same applies to Suicide Squad. But it'd pretty ignorant to say that BvS isn't one of the most hyped movies of all time. People have been waiting for this since the Reeve/Keaton era! The two most popular heroes of all time coming together. It's just that it isn't that black and white.

        I brought it up because he's arriving to the same conclusion, and I know it because of what he says in the first comment. He doesn't need to say it directly.
        If he claims that the study is proof that the people complaining about BvS are just a loud insignificant minority, he's insinuating in other words that the majority really like or don't mind BvS as it is now. And if he thinks the great majority has a positive opinion of BvS, he definitely think it'll be a rounding success; he would never claim that most people like the movie, then turn and say it'll do OK or badly.

I know full well that the people significantly concerned with BvS are the minority when compared to the general audiences who know about the movie enough to be interested. The question is how much of a minority. A 40% minority is still significant enough to cause alarm. And before you get your panties in a bunch, that's an example. I estimate it's more around 20% of people who know about the movie having significant concern.
        But all that is beside the point I was trying to make in my first comment, which is that this study tells us nothing about what people's opinion regarding the movie is. All it says is that people are talking about it a lot online; whether it's positively or negatively, there's no way to know.

    Deep down I think every DC fan wants BvS to be a critical success just to shut up those annoying Make Mine Marvel groupies. I love MOS so what some critics think isn't the end all for me but I really would like to see great reviews.

      Man of Steel gets better every time I watch it. I understand why some critics gave it bad marks but to me it shows the problem with Rotten Tomatoes. More critics liked Man of Steel than didn't and alot of the ones that didn't certainly didn't hate it. People are just conditioned to hate on any movie that drops below 80 percent. I think the score will be higher this time around because I feel like the script will be better and being able to use Batman will make Snyder's directing style make more sense to the people who didn't like Man of Steel.

        I have lost track on how many times I have watched MOS. May not be perfect and have some clunky dialogue at times but overall love it and I think it will be viewed differently after BvS and the DCEU get going.

This means shit because a rising tide lifts all boats, so if the general audience that doesn't follow movie news and are not nerd like us go to see Deapool and BvS and have a good time with them, they will go see the next super hero movie, Fox, Marvel, DC, it doesn't matter, general audience doesn't care about the studios behind super hero movies and their "rivalry" wich is just a fanboy bullshit, they will go se the next one excpecting to have a great time again.

  I somewhat agree but I feel some characters exceed those sort of things. Superman and Batman are huge characters who in my belief, exceed any other comic book character's popularity into not just another comic book character but something more. People don't just see Superman as a comic book movie but a 'Superman' movie, sort of it's own genre if you will. So I don't think the response to Deadpool will affect BVS, though I do think it'll affect the rest of the superhero movies in the year.
  The reaction to Man of Steel was generally mixed to moderately positive so I'm interested to see if it'll affect BvS. I don't think the general audience are wholly on board with this Superman's incarnation just yet, which may actually hurt the box office or if the film is actually good and reviews are great ahead of release, all bets are off. Pretty big 'if' though.
  As for Batman, well everything Batman has been incredible the last decade so that can only help. Plus, whether people hated or loved the choice of Ben Affleck, it gained the film some more popularity among regular movie goers.
