Batmobile creator George Barris laid to rest in custom Batmobile casket

Earlier this month, legendary car designer George Barris passed away. His most popular creation was the 1966 Batmobile for the hit Adam West TV show. Yesterday, Barris was laid to rest in style at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles.

Barris was buried in a custom gold casket with his most famous cars airbrushed onto the sides, complete with fins at the top inspired by the 1966 Batmobile. There were also floral arrangements in the shape of the Batmobile and Batman logos. Check out some photos below courtesy of The Los Angeles Times and KNX 1070.

  Kane came up with the name and the idea (much of which was cribbed from other serials of the time like The Shadow), while Finger actually made the character we're familiar with.

    Exactly. If they had gone with Kane's Batman, guaranteed he would have never made it past #27 and fade into obscurity.

      Bob Kane excelled at one thing: having an uncle who was a lawyer. The upshot of that is, of the four people being discussed (including S&S and Bill Finger), Kane was the only one who made decent money.

    Oh and the pic was made by Paul Roman Martinez, he also made a Superman one with Siegel and Shuster.

    Golden. As in "not made of gold but kinda yellow and sorta metallic" in color. He was a jovial guy, with a good sense of humor and some well-deserved pride for creating an iconic Hollywood design. He did something that will be remembered for a long time, so if he wanted to get the last laugh out of it, then more power to him.
    But, hey, if you'd rather trash talk a decent dead man, then go right ahead. I hear that being judgmental and self-righteous is rather enjoyable. It's not my bag, but to each their own.

      i mean i knew it wasn't real gold, but whatever i apologize. I was initially just thinking that, to his family and friends, a person's life meant more than making a famous car. I understand that he was bringing humor into a tragic loss so MY BAD DUDE FUCKING CHILL
