'Batman v Superman' is more grounded than any other superhero movie, according to Scoot McNairy

Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins invented the terms "dark, gritty, and grounded" that you hear thrown around big movie franchises these days. Nolan's entire take on Batman revolved around adapting him and the other characters and making them fit into our world. But according to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Scoot McNairy, Zack Snyder has Nolan beat!

"This is the superhero film that is more grounded in reality than any of the other ones. It’s a comic book movie, yes, but it’s very, very grounded", McNairy told We Got This Covered while promoting his new movie Our Brand Is Crisis.

A movie involving an alien that can fly is more grounded than Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy? I guess we'll have to take McNairy's word for it for now. But his comments definitely make me even more interested in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice... if that's even possible!

      Walter White is probably the only widely known name you've mentioned and lets be honest, he was just a greedy asshole who ruined everything for everyone in his life and career. He was incredibly entertaining to watch but as a character he was completely flawed and made poor decisions.

Chris, this really isn't a good headline.       See I got a car in 2012 right after they bumped the horse power from 315 to 412. Now I've tuned it to 428 and the current model, despite monumental appearance and suspension improvements, has 435. So now I'm stuck in this weird limbo where I love everything about the newest model but also think they're going to radically improve the engine soon.

      Me too, if I don't see any reliable rumors about upgrades to the 5.0 for the 2017 model then I may just have to buy a GT350. I really want that IRS and new body style but a new car is a big decision when the new one is heavier and only has 7 more HP than my current Mustang. I also think the mustang needs more power to compete with the newest Camaro, so it's either wait for an update GT or drop the cash for a GT350.

I'm sorry to say this Chris, but you like many others, fail to understand what "grounded in reality" means. Not talking crap or anything but just want to clarify.. there is a difference between realistic and grounded to reality.

A flying alien with superpowers isn't realistic. However, grounded to reality is a completely different meaning: How the government reacts to a super powered being. How the military reacts. What effect it has on the world. People reject him, some love him. The government holds him responsible. They bring him to court. This is grounded to reality.

This is what WOULD happen if this were real. It is NOT the same as realistic. Unlike some MCU movies where half of New York is destroyed and then they got eat shwarma or whatever it's called. That's the difference. Again, no disrespect; Just wanted to point it out because a lot of people out there don't know the difference.

    I still don't understand why you guys get all up in arms about this stuff. It's like when you reach adulthood, the fun you had as a kid reading comics is forgotten. It's all about showing people how serious it is and blah blah blah. I like both approaches, seriousness and fun. I won't apologize for it either. Sometimes I want a big fun summer blockbuster with interesting characters and a good story. I don't care if it's superrealistic or super grounded. Not saying I don't appreciate those films either.       On the contrary, I have no idea how you don't understand that different people like different things. I have no problem with other people enjoying the MCU's lighter tone. I don't like it. It's way too cheesy and childish. Not because it's Marvel, not because I'm a DC fan- I just don't like lighthearted movies.
      I hated the first american Godzilla movie. I loved Gareth's Godzilla. It was dark and gritty. Just how I love my movies. Same reason why I don't like Superman Returns (even though I'm the biggest Superman fan alive) and love Man of Steel. Same reason why I hate Iron Man 3 and love Winter Soldier.
      I don't mind funny and comedic scenes, but don't overdue it and spray it with a bunch of cheese. Know when to do comedy and when to take your movie seriously. Winter Soldier did it perfectly in the MCU. Avengers? Hate both of those films.

      I know that people have different opinions, but many of Marvel's detractors on the web seem to take it personal or act as though that humor isn't there in the source material. Heaven forbid something is "childish". Some of the best movies are targeted at children. Superheroes are childhood fantasies. I think in many people's quest for adulthood, they forget that and think "dark, gritty, and serious" is what it means to be adult.

      There are times when humor truly is the most human response to even the most traumatic events. As a wise tiger named Hobbes once contemplated, and I paraphrase, "Perhaps if we couldn't laugh at the things we didn't understand, we wouldn't be able to react to them at all."
      What the shawarma criticisms mean to convey is a sense of convenient unaccountability that makes the world of the MCU distinctly otherworldly. Not everyone enjoys that sense of unearned respite while others clearly do. Both are matters of preference, and therefore valid. What's unfortunate is the vocal minority discussing these topics online tend to operate on a double standard where the inexplicable smooth sailing in the MCU, by virtue of its intended entertainment value (tossing out most of the hardest questions the depicted events would inspire in favor of moving onto the next setpiece), is somehow inherently superior to the grounded reality of DC films where destruction is often depicted with explicit mortal and political consequences. It's like people who love a food chain item expressly engineered to be hyper-palatable mocking others for prefering to locally source their dinner because it pleases them to consider their food on an intellectual level that better reflects the world they are a part of. That's just an elaborate illustration, and there's nothing wrong with liking both. There's also nothing wrong with placing certain weight on one over the other. As DC film fans (and many of us, including myself, enjoy parts of the MCU as well), we catch a lot of crap everywhere else because of this double standard that is positioned against our preferences. Somehow, it's become a crime to take an intellectual enjoyment in these elaborate fantasies and express our particular enjoyment of the films that challenge us, or show our favorite characters rise in one form or another in a world we can recognize as our own.

      P.S. I enjoy the lighter side of things too, but when we're talking live-action, I see a chance to see my favorite heroes come to life, and the chance to see them operate in a world I can recognize is probably my dearest dream as a fan. That's why I particularly enjoyed the first Iron Man, even though I didn't have any history with the character outside from the odd MvC match. When I watched Iron Man in 2008, he felt real.

      I like a good mix. I have my preferences and it's not so much the amount of humor as it is when it happens. I don't like humor that undercuts the villains. By the same token humor can go a long way to making a character likable and relatable.

      I actually think the Hulk was the most impressive creation in The Avengers. The redesign was particularly human and convincing compared to Norton's alternate form. Ruffalo's Banner just needs some breathing room away from the Avenger films, a stage of his own.
      Thor has a lot of wasted potential in my mind. Perhaps it was Branaugh's influence, but the forced Shakespearean schtick takes away from the gravity of his place in human culture. I don't see any of the Asgardians as being truly worthy of their mythological legacy in our world, which is a shame. Norse myth is easily one of the most badass Western mythologies ever.

      You must not remember high school that well if you think Marvel films are like that. And the Marvel films have great dialog. Not every line is great, but I'm not just referring to lines that are funny, but lines that are pleasant to the ear as opposed to stilted and unnatural.

In the MCU, somehow the government is like "sure tony stark you can be iron man"
All it took was one senate hearing and him claiming the suit and he were one and he got past all the legal loopholes that would come with being both a vigilante and doing military actions on foreign soil "
In the dcu its the exact opposite. They are not legally happy about Superman
Also the public is scared of him (which again in the MCU and in all fairness in DC comics and all comics has basically been the opposite where people love superheros)

As in BvS? Yeah, I guess the trailers haven't made it seem super dark. But the entire universe has a dark tone so far. Man of Steel is arguably dark and Suicide Squad definitely comes across as dark. I should have said I'm tired of DC coming under fire for the serious themes they tackle.

Snyder's Batman will be the closest thing I've always wanted to see in a Batman film - the chances of us seeing the more "unconventional" villains in the Rogues Gallery is much more likely now.

I may be in the minority here, but Nolan's Batman was a little underwhelming. Don't get me wrong - The trilogy was good, and they were all well crafted films - but you'd have to be a biased Nolan-bandwagon fool to think that those films can't be topped.

Snyder's Batman will be badass, fast-paced, and fun for a change. Although they say its "the most grounded," I think its obvious we'll still be seeing some thrilling "unreal" and "fantastical" elements we'd never be able to see in Nolan Batman films - and THAT is exciting.

Uhmm, I think it refers to the notion of what would actually happen if a flying Alien would have been discovered living among us. I don't think they mean within the realm of what is physically possible or scientifically possible. I think just how would the World we live in today & how would society today react to these type of beings (Bats, Supes, Aqua, Wonda) should they be in our World. But yes I felt the same way as well! I think Nolan gave us the what is actually physically plausible in our World.

Hmm, in the trailer he didn't look and behave like a reporter, at all -.-
So logic dictates that he isn't Olsen..
I think his role is hidden for so long because, he really will be Maxwell Lord.,. Snyder uses OMAC in "BvS" and then Brother Eye& organisation Chceckmate will appear in "JL" =/

I could go for a new trailer or some new pics. Im a Star Wars fan but it's just not as satisfying for me. At this point even a new suicide squad.trailer do.
