Batman dominates IMDb's 25 year top rated movies list

The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. It's hard to imagine what the internet would be like without IMBb. I use it all the time here on Batman News, and I'm sure you all do as well whenever there's casting news with an actor you aren't familiar with.

To celebrate its 25th year, IMBb has shared a list with Vanity Fair detailing the top user-rated movies over the last 25 years. The top rated movie of 2005? Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins. The top rated movie of 2008? The Dark Knight. Django Unchained is listed as the top movie for 2012, but it actually has the same 8.5 rating as The Dark Knight Rises. Perhaps IMDb didn't want Batman to dominate their list as much as he already had. One thing you won't find on this list? Marvel.

If you really look at it. Its not a DC Marvel thing. Its a Christopher Nolan thing. His 3 Batman Movies, Inception and Interstellar and Memento are all on this list. Where are the DC movies that Nolan didn't make? The 2 Superman Movies, The Green Lantern and the other Batman movies that Nolan didn't have anything to do with? They are not there either. So anyone with half a brain can see that it isn't that DC is better than Marvel. It is that Christopher Nolan makes great movies regardless if its a Batman movie, or a Space Odyssey, or whatever you want to classify Inception as. Nice try with your whole DC is better than Marvel angle. I can see how an idiot would look at it that way. But what this list actually shows is that Christopher Nolan is making better movies than pretty much anyone else regardless of the content. That is something I will agree with. Let's be realistic. The Winter Solider and The Guardians of the Galaxy are two incredible movies, way better than Superman Returns, Man of Steel and Green Lantern. So what I am going to do for you weak minded people is go through the list and see where the non-Nolan DC Movies stack up against Marvel and then provide a way more accurate comparison of how DC & Marvel stack up against each other. I am impartial as I love all comic book movies. Batman is by far my favorite character. Give me an hour or two and I will provide the actual DC vs. Marvel comparison that the author of this article failed to provide. I am off from my actual job today so I might as well do someone else's job the right way, lol.

Was that supposed be funny "wall of text"? It wasn't and actually everything I said was based on facts was it not? The Marvel movies scored higher on IMDB's list against the DC movies that Nolan didn't make. The list states that Nolan's movies are the top rated movie on the list in years he releases a film. How is that an opinion? Like I said in my wall of text weak minded people don't get it. That statement is an opinion and, you more than proved that opinion to be accurate.

  -The Dark Knight is at #4 (9.0)
  -The Dark Knight Rises is at #60 (8.4)
  -Batman Begins is at #110 (8.3)
  -V for Vendetta ranks at #146 (8.2)
  -Sin City ranks at #195 (8.1)
  -Avengers ranks at #207 (8.0)
  -Guardians ranks at #219 (8.0)
  It is what it is.
  Every single film in the Dark Knight Trilogy ranks higher than any other comic book movie by a wide margin. V for Vendetta (another DC movie) ranks higher than anything by Marvel, according to this list.

    Is who? IDK. There's really nothing to be defensive about. The IMDB rankings are based on user votes, which are subjective, though indicative of general consensus, for what that is worth. Like I said, it is what it is.

      I can sympathize. Fanboy flamewars can make people act irrationally. I've definitely been there myself. Let's just remember this is all supposed to be fun. There's really no need to keep score. Disney and WB are making more money than any of us will ever see in our lifetimes. I'm just glad quality comic book movies are being made.
      To be fair Michael has a point, but one that requires selective reasoning.
      Let's just say that the Dark Knight franchise is more critically acclaimed than the MCU franchise, the MCU franchise is more critically acclaimed than all of the DC movies on average, and that the DC movies are probably comparable to all of the Marvel movies (including non-MCU movies) throughout the years. It just depends on how you want to define what a DC movie or a Marvel movie is, how far back you want to go in time, whether you want to include properties developed by third-party studios, etc. If you want to be selective about what data you are using, you can probably come up with an explanation that confirms your own personal bias.
      I do think that in general the DC movies have hit some extreme highs and some extreme lows, while the MCU has been very consistent in quality, though never reaching the artistic heights of some of the best DC movies. In my opinion, the MCU has sacrificed the potential for greatness in order to create a very consistent, and imho mediocre, brand. They've never made anything as awful as Jonah Hex, but they'll also never make anything as great as The Dark Knight. It is what it is.
