Report: Ben Affleck to star in and direct 'The Batman' in 2018

Last October when Warner Bros. announced their slate of DC Comics movies they said that a solo Batman and Superman movie would be released before 2020, they just didn't say when. According to a new report from Latino Review, the "when" for the Batman movie is November 2018.

Collider backs up the Latino Review report and says that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice writer Chris Terrio will work on the script for The Batman, which Ben Affleck will star in and direct himself. No other details are available at this time, but an announcement at Comic-Con in just a few weeks would make a lot of sense. Stay tuned to Batman News for all the latest!

    Here is something more concrete. A new batch of leaked Sony emails claimed Pascal is worried about a "big" untitled DC film coming out Nov 2018. Which corroborates Collider's claim.

        Talent doesnt have much to do with it. Rather it's how much you can craft a style that fits what you write. The Nolan brothers did it perfectly, now Affleck needs to do that in a unique and equally effective way.

      Ben Affleck is a fantastic director. But The Dark Knight is a masterpiece, and one of the best films in the last 15-20 years. If Affleck can even get close to the quality of film making on TDK then he will be one of the best directors of out generation. If anybody can do it, its Ben. Im very happy he is directing, i dont know why dc didnt have him direct BVSDOJ

        What? Im responding to somebody elses comment. You are reading out of context. And Nolan also directed Memento, Insomnia, The prestige, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and inception. TDKR and Interstellar where a little underwhelming but i still believe he is capable of superb film making. I said Ben Affleck is a great director, i even said if anybody at Warner Bros should be directing a batman film its him. What worries me about BVSDOJ is Zack Snyder.

        I think they will just give us a full trailer of BVSDOJ, and maybe a sneak peak at suicide squad. If they announce a film it will probably be Man of Steel 2. Im very optomistic about Ben being given the directors chair, he should be the overseer of all upcoming dc films instead of snyder, You dont get an oscar winning director to act he should be given more projects to take on. What do you think will be announced?

Seems like a foregone conclusion to me. No way Affleck would've signed up for Batman "just to act". He's an outstanding director, and as such was probably relishing the thought of flexing that particular muscle in the wake of critically acclaimed efforts such as Argo and The Town (to name a few).
For WB, this is all a boon. The pedigree of an Academy Award winner brings to a project cannot be denied (even though the Batman brand doesn't really need it to make bank). Artistically, it's perfect. Affleck is a long-time fan of the character. Throw Terrio in the mix, and it's a match made in heaven, isn't it.
Batfleck is just beginning. I suggest you guys go but extra underwear, because when this all comes to fruition, we won't all make to the loo in time :D

    My number one thought to all the fanboy haters two years ago---you just got an Oscar-caliber director to be involved in your universe, one with leading man experience and an actual Oscar trophy for writing. It was always gonna go this way. And what's the first thing he does? Uses his instincts to bring in an Oscar-caliber writer to polish up the BvS script.

      I really didn't understand all the hate Affleck got.. He fits the description of their Batman ,he is passionate about it, he is a decent actor and he may actually be in this universe for at least 5-7 years ,he is also a director and he has ties to the WB..

        Nolan always said his trilogy was its own thing.. Besides even if Christian Bale agreed to do other movies (which he definitely wouldn't..) I doubt you could tie him to that many projects..
        You know this is just like when Dc keeps saying that TvU and CU are seperated but people still insist that Grant Gustin should play Flash.. (He really isn't that good as an actor..)

        Yeah, I'm sick of hearing how amazing Gustin is, how Ezra Miller will have a hard time "living up" to Gustin after the Flash finale, blah blah blah...really, all Gustin did in the finale was cry a crap ton of tears. I was like, "Yeah, that's my reaction to your acting, pal...tears."

    I bet they'll want Leto to return as the Joker in the solo Batman film. Perhaps Robbie too, though they might put her origin in Suicide Squad?
    Either way, Irons is also in of course. I wouldn't be surprised if they put Robin or Nightwing in the film as well.

  Not to forget that Affleck has gotten a closer look at humongous productions with BvS and the Justice League films, and a small role in Suicide Squad of course! I think Affleck catches up on the other Batman actors to become the one who played him the most. He's already at five when Justice League part II comes out!

  I don't agree JL2 is a direct continuation not a sequel. Avengers2 didn't have anything to do with the first so waiting 3 years was not a big deal but JL1 followed by potentially 3 unrelated fills in between not so good.

    When WB announced the DCCU lineup months ago they listed JL part 1 and 2, not JL1 and JL2, that is the only way I interpret it until something more concrete comes out of their camp. Otherwise I don't mind waiting 2 years for a sequel.

      I think that JL p1 and p2 are indeed direct continuations but the fact that they split it into 2 parts is because they want to extend the JL story in order to develop every important character in the movie, it takes a lot of run time for that.
