Joel Kinnaman confirms rumors, will replace Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg in 'Suicide Squad' [update]

The rumors were true! Joel Kinnaman will replace Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg in Suicide Squad. Hardy had to drop out in January due to scheduling conflicts.

Kinnaman confirmed the news while talking to French website AlloCiné about his new movie Run All Night. On the topic of Suicide Squad, Kinnaman was brief but said "all I can say is I'm going to be in the movie. It's going to be amazing".

Update: Kinnaman spoke with Collider and had more to say about working with director David Ayer on Suicide Squad:

“The story’s dope and David is just, he’s cool. You know, I think you’re always afraid when you go into like a big superhero movie that it’s gonna be kinda just action and you’re not gonna be able to just really go to the bottom of the characters, but I think he’s gonna be able to do both, really give it both depth and scale. Yeah, all the conversations that we’ve had so far have been like, ‘Wow. Okay, we’re really going there.’ So that’s fun.”

    Cool! I can't wait to see what he's going to look like. I bet he's going to look very different from Ledger's Joker. I have a feeling we'll get a more neat looking Joker this time around. Not entirely sure about the eyebrows, or better said, lack thereof. They're really helpful for creating evil looking faces you know, although, anybody looks scary without eyebrows!
    I bet we're getting to see something of Leto as the Joker in a months time. He's still performing till April 10th and after that he'll start shooting. I guess we can expect something before that since he probably not only went to Toronto to dye his hair. Like Chris said, it's pretty sure that he has had the make-up on and the costume!

        I wouldn't mind if they'd do that at all tbh. Think only of a prosthetic nose though. I think something prosthetic for his mouth could be too restricting. At least not as much as Nicholson had but as little as Ledger had (his underlip), though that of Ledger had more to do with aligning his scars better to his mouth.

      I think that looks amazing. I'm hopeful that Ayers/Leto's interpretation will be an almost operatic, phantasmic-like Joker, that is eerily creepy in appearance and demeanour, without being overtly so, without too much hamming (like Nicholsons version) and smoother and sleeker (than Heaths incredible, grunge-like performance). I think the above fan-made art is exactly the look that I'm hoping for. Jack, Heath, now Jared. We're lucky to have such stellar actors play The Joker!!

        Yea exactly. I want a look that as soon as I see him it screams the title "Clown Prince of Darkness". But I'm not too worried I feel like they are going for that look, this time around.

  That would be great as well! But think about it, the rumors said Lex would sport dirty blonde hair at first and given the fact we saw Eisenberg with very short hair in the Now You See Me 2 photo, he'll go bald later on. So I'm not sure what to expect of a pic of Luthor.

    I think losing the hair should be something on the sidelines for why he'd hate Superman even more. I mean yeah losing your hair sucks but technology is catching up on that so there needs to be something (though subtle) on why he'd always be bald after that you know. Again, it shouldn't be one of the major reasons he hates Superman. Besides, I'm really looking forward to Eisenberg's performance. We've yet to see the definitive or at least something close to that, Lex Luthor yet.

        No offense, but i feel like it's even cheesy in the comic books. Lex is my favorite villain of all, and i cringe when that goes down. It's just to much cheese for me. It just takes away from what Lex is supposed to be in my opinion. Some things are better left on page. I'm a huge fan of Jesse as Lex. I know he's going to own the shit, but seeing JESSE in a Lexosuit would be like WTF lmao. I wouldn't be able to take that seriously.

I was just about to ask if they'd found a replacement for Hardy. Guess so. I've only seen this guy in RoboCop, and he was fine. He fits a small character like Flag better than (now) big star Hardy, although he has to get in shape.

  I agree with you in as much that Hardy is now quite the well-known commodity in Hollywood, due to his incredible recent performances as Bane, and in Locke (and more), for example. Joel is a great choice. He was phenomenal in The Killing. He's a very dedicated performer, and I've no doubt he'll be physically and mentally ready for the character.

Guys I have a source (can't say who sorry) that says Cyborgs costume is not only done but next to be revealed (infact he told me that the Flash is also done and they are in talks with somebody about playing GL but he does not know who)!
EDIT:he aslo told me that Kinnaman had the part like week ago and he just told me I can say his job which is in the costume department as one of the concept guys who tuch up the official release photos with photoshop

      Practically there is only one costume, but it has second variant, where this headscarf is replaced by complete mask. Something similar to mask in that photo:

      This glasses imitate 'ears', which are always present in standard comicbook mask.
      You know .. "realism." But costume looks fantastic (like everything from the team Snyder/Wilkinson). And live looks very "Flash-ish". More than you might think.

        For Zack Snyder it doesn't matter what you or others think.. He does what HE thinks is right and what fits to HIS concepts of DCCU. From what I know this idea of Flash, is fully reasonable. Just like Aquaman costume.
        Significant difference between DCCU and MCU, which fans don't understand yet, is that: DCCU will be less faithful to the ACTUAL source material. Or otherwise.. will be based on a much larger amount of comics than you think (even this non-canonical or else-world comicbook). You know.. Pre-Crisis world, Post-Crisis world... Marvel doesn't have anything like that.
        And you probably don't noticed:
        Batman has a costume from "Dark Knight Returns" (else-world)
        Aquaman is inspired by the work of Peter David (outdated canon)
        Flash costume will be referred to the "Justice League 3000" and Hal Jordan costume will be.. ekhm.. never mind. Probably you'll see on the Comic-con.

        I'd say what I don't understand is in one sentence you proclaim the DCCU will be less faithful to the actual source material. The next sentence starts "or otherwise will be based on a much larger amount of comics..."
        That "or otherwise" seems to indicate the opposite of the 1st sentence...so which is it?
        Also, I'm fairly certain we all know where the Batsuit for this movie drew inspiration from, just like the influences for Curry's look. These have all been pretty well dissected in other threads.

      It's a great film, but disturbing as hell. Kind of difficult to watch. Miller and Tilda Swinton are scary good in their roles (minus Miller's amateur hand flinging).

  I hate when people say that they would cast "this person or that person instead" and "he not fit for the part" because are they Zack? NO!! The casting choice may not make sense to them but it does to Zack and the universe he's building!!!! They can cast who ever the HELL they want in there DCCU because there casting choices make sense for that universe but it might not make sense in Zacks universe!!!!!!

    Like with Ezra, I'd prefer someone who's relatively unknown.
    Or, like with Batman, they could have an older, more seasoned Hal Jordan (which would make sense since he's the only other member outside of Batman with no inherent powers).

  Let's get Neeson as General Lane facing off against Ed Harris and Joel Kinnaman as the Flaggs. Just reunite the entire 'Run All Night' cast for the DCCU. There have to be good roles for Genesis Rodriguez and Common as well.

Robocop just hit Netflix and I gave it a chance. Great casting in my opinion for that movie... except for this guy. I fell asleep. Hopefully he can change my mind this time around as that movie was just poor to me anyhow.
