Director David Ayer describes The Joker, shares photos from hi-tech 'Suicide Squad' set

Director David Ayer has been letting fans in on the pre-production process of Suicide Squad, and this week was no different. This morning the director revealed on Twitter that some of the sets are starting to be constructed.

He also had this to say about the amount of work and detail that goes into movie sets:

The craftsmanship that goes into a film set is astounding. The carpentry, sculpture and painting is worldclass. #skwad

Suicide Squad's set will be pretty hi-tech! Ayer showed off lights that can be controlled from an iPad:

And finally, Ayer described Jared Leto's Joker... albeit in just one word:

Cannot wait to see Leto as joker. Ledgers was incredible but we should all remember that its good to see other versions of this iconic character.
Bring it on Leto.

    The benefit of Heath's Joker, and of Nolan's endeavour as a whole, is that it's pretty far in terms of execution from the comics.
    It's gonna be incredible to, I expect, see the most cb accurate Joker to date on screen.

      Mate, I appreciate the long elaboration, but I already completely agree regarding Nolan. I actually used the word 'execution', by which I meant that, because Nolan's films captivated more the spirit, rather than what everybody immediately recognises: the aesthetic, the plot and world – which is what I call the execution of a property – we have a very convenient place to reboot from. A place where latter doesn't have to tread on former, and both can quite easily coexist. Something, for example, the spider-man reboot had much more of an issue with.
      I don't entirely agree regarding Watchmen, but that's off topic.

  I hope they remember to keep intact the clown aspect of the Joker. That was the only thing missing from the Ledger performance for me personally.

    I definitely got glimpses of it, which I think worked well for that film. Remember him leaving the hospital and his clown like waddle? That whole scene screamed clown. Just my opinion though.

  Yeah, I thought Snyder was a breath of fresh air... but Ayer is making him look like Nolan when it comes to promotion!

    Zack is spending that time organising a whole cinematic universe. He has a lot more impact than Ayer with regards to PR and the bigger scheme of things.

      Is he though? I haven't found 1 press release from the studio to confirm Snyder serves as the Kevin Feige of the DCCU. Sure he's set to work on 3 movies (4 if you individually count the JLA parts), but does that mean he's organizing everything?

        Well, I can't know for sure obviously, but 1 he's clearly setting up the start of it. he's laying the groundwork with BvS and exec producing SuSqua is as good as saying he's overseeing it. 2 there's a vacuum to be filled and I don't see any WB producer doing that. Affleck, Gadot, Mamoa Ayer etc, everyone talks about Snyder. Clearly the guy is the main man behind all of this. Considering he's doing both Justice League films I think, that means he's deeply involved until 2018 at the minimum.
        I think, contrary to marvel, which began through a studio producer as its anchor, WB is choosing to put an artist in creative control. I hope it's the case, it seems to be so far, and I think it's a brilliant move.
        Either way my point sticks, Snyder has much more impact when he does something, that means he's gonna be more controlled and calculated about it PR-wise. Also, what Ayer does isn't something may directors do, just in general.
        This is gonna be so rad.

        Correct, he's laying the groundwork...but so was Favreau. Doesn't mean he's definitely the guy.
        The actors you list & Ayer are directly dealing with Snyder through their roles in BvS:DoJ & JLA and as an executive producer.
        It could be the case that Snyder is outlining the direction of the DCCU, but I just haven't seen anything concrete.
        Just like some of the forum members here that boast about Affleck co-writing BvS:DoJ, JLA, as well as writing, directing, producing, starring, costuming, stunt coordinating, site location managing, & key griping a solo Batman movie that isn't even proven to be more then a line item on a wishlist.

  For Zack it is all about what and when to show things, now that filming is done for Bats V Supes. I suppose it also arguable that Suicide Squad isnt a big of a deal as Bats V Supes is, so we get the privilege of Ayer sharing some goods with us in the meantime.

  Nope he won't because he's got the marketings going good already when it comes to BvS. People using BvS hashtag on Twitter for all kind of random stuffs. It's getting spammed as hell. And when it gets less spam that's when Zack releases a simple picture that blows everything up. While Ayer has to promote a movie WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY less known to random people. I mean, you really have to know DC to know Suicide Squad. So let's RT that shit with #BatmanvSuperman XD

    Uncle joker... Who poisoned hundreds of people, electrocuted a guy to death, killed a mobster with a poison pen, shot his number one henchman point blank, mutilated a woman's face, gleefully killed his old boss shooting him like a dozen times while laughing, etc. Both ledger and Nicholson were intimidating psychopaths as the joker.

  Lol. I wasn't even born when Cheers was aired. 😌 I'm disappointed with what Gotham did to the Joker. He wasn't a sadist and lunatic killer in his childhood right ?! Its only after ACE chemicals he goes crazy. Unless Gotham is following Nolan's route with the Joker: domestic violence and traumatized childhood.

    Well... its confusing. Gotham needs to pull its socks up. Catwoman and Poison Ivy are so unnecessary. And this whole "Mario Pepper" facade in the first season. What's wrong in going straight Joe Chill way ?! And Catwoman guzzling down milk. RBT is killing it though. This Fish-Falcone under-the-belt boxing got boring. And I was laughing through the 1st season when Selina was Bruce's housemate cum witness. Man this is serious over warping of the mythos. Almost every villain except Bane and Ra's has shown up. (albeit venom being introduced)

    Actually Bruno Heller, the show runner of Gotham, has pretty much confirmed like three times that Jerome (ginger kid) is the Joker. Even the trailer for that particular episode of Gotham confirmed it.
