Tom Hardy, Will Smith, and Margot Robbie are 'close' to signing onto 'Suicide Squad'

Earlier this week Warner Bros. announced plans, titles, casting announcements, and release dates for 12 DC Comics movies between now and 2020. Among the list was a Suicide Squad movie directed by David Ayer, set for August 2016. It didn't take long for rumors to fly, and it was reported that Warner Bros. reached out to Tom Hardy, Will Smith, Ryan Gosling, and Margot Robbie for lead roles.

Now Deadline, another very reliable source, has come forward to echo that report. The site goes a bit further and says that Tom Hardy, Will Smith, and Margot Robbie are all "close to signing on". Margot Robbie and Will Smith will star in Warner Bros.' upcoming movie Focus early next year, and it'll be interesting to see if they do sign that dotted line soon and team up again in Suicide Squad.

With Suicide Squad set for an August 2016 release, production will likely start early next year. Expect to hear some official casting news soon. Stay tuned to Batman News for all the latest!

  Wasn't it a rumor a while back? That the actors would make cameo's in the other ones' solo films? This way we could see more (for example) of Batman than only in BvS and the JLA films before his own film opens later. I'm thinking more usable cameo's not for the sake of appearing. Kind of like they're doing with BvS actually.

  I haven't seen the New 52 stuff, but IIRC Suicide Squad is usually about the government (personified by Amanda Waller) employing these villains for its own operations, right? So I'm not sure they'd necessarily be fighting superheroes.

I don't know about this....the only person that seems likely is Margot Robbie (maybe). Tom Hardy was already in a DC film (Of course it's a separate DC universe but I don't know if he'd do it again, but who knows). I can't see Will Smith and nowadays Will Smith just plays Will Smith. I highly doubt Ryan Gossling would do it since he's kind of said he doesn't like doing big budget block busters. But I guess we'll wait and see.
i would really like it if Tom Hardy & Ryan Gossling did sign on though.

If Hardy becomes Deathstroke i will build a altar for Kevin Tsujihara. The big surprise for me is Will Smith do a movie as a villain, or his stardom dont affect the film too hard. But he made a little role as Satan in Winter's tale, and his last movie didn't make good cash, soo a change of approach at this point could be welcome for him. And if Smith join the film, he and his wife will be both DC Comics villains XD

I hope Tom Hardy won't sign, just to "respect" his portrayal of Bane and the fact that he statued Christian Bale as his Batman during an interview. I think Margot Robbie can be really fantastic Harley Quinn. She have the material. Not interested in other names. Hardy is exception. Really want these two persons. Don't like Gosling because his two eyes are so close! :-/ I don't see Will Smith in the Squad. I am with Robbie and Hardy here.
