'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' crew supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month with pink camera

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. You may have seen your favorite athletes wearing pink this month to help spread awareness, and your favorite movie crew is doing the same!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder shared the photo above on his private Instagram account, and cinematographer Larry Fong has reposted it with some context:

We painted our cameras black for the movie about a year ago and while they were doing that we had them make this pink mag which we've been holding for October.

I'd forgotten that breast cancer existed! Thanks for "raising awareness", Warner Bros! Now that a bunch of hipsters say they have "raised awareness", we can be certain that everybody is "aware". Now that everybody's "aware", they can sit back and wait for other people to do real shit.

    Yeah and a lot more people did the ice bucket challenge and didn't donate anything. I'm not discounting raising awareness in general. Sometimes it simply comes off phony to me.

    "Awareness" is about status whoring, not fixing things. That's obvious on its face, but here, I'll prove it. If people wanted to save lives, then their "Raise Awareness" would go proportionately to the diseases which kill the most people. They don't, so it's more white phoniness.

Prostate cancer is gender specific. Males & females can develop breast cancer.
And its only breast cancer in name. The purpose is to raise an awareness/reminder about the disease.

    That men can get it also, not just women. Most men don't even know to check for it. Would that 1% be as dismissive?
    Also, its only 'breast cancer month' in name. The notion is to remember to check yourself & do what you can to help others.

      Yes, it was started by breast cancer charities, but it's not limited to just breast cancer at this point. I've yet to hear sports commentators or anyone promoting the month say "we need to focus on breast cancer because the other cancers aren't as important."
      You can donate to any cancer charity in the month of October.

      What about us mentality? I think it makes sense when there's a huge awareness campaign for Breast cancer, and thus donations and fundraising to breast cancer. But not nearly enough awareness about prostate cancer, and thus not enough donations and fundraising to Prostate cancer. Is that simple enough for you to understand?       Does the name calling help strengthen your opinion? I've never understood why people feel the need to do that. Its like yelling in an argument; the increase in volume doesn't strengthen an opinion. Anyway...
      If you don't like the minimal to lack of prostate cancer, do something about it. This Breast Cancer awareness month originated out charities specific to breast cancer. If prostate cancer charities did the same then maybe there would be the awareness you want.
      Should we start complaining about every specific charity that doesn't bring awareness to all diseases? Should we attack the Jimmy Fund for focusing on kids with cancer, when clearly adults are effected too. What about ALS for not acknowledging cancer when its charities are raising money. Where do we draw the line here?
      To equate the number of people effected by one type of cancer verse another seems to be missing the whole point. It reeks of 'entitlement.' Hell, there's even someone who posted on this thread that claims money is being wasted on being awareness to something that people are already aware of. Are people not aware of prostate cancer?

      But recently there has been the Movember movement, fundraising for men's health awareness every November. Its gone on leaps and bounds in the past few years. Fact is men have not been as open about health problems and discussing them in the public sphere compared to women, hence why women's charities have been so outspoken. This is all changing now which is a good thing.

I've lost some family members to cancer and I don't believe I could ever understand the feeling of actually having cancer. If I had it maybe I would feel differently, but I can't help but think, on some level, that all of this "raising awareness" does little more than make healthy people feel better about either the guilt of being healthy or their fears of getting sick.

I think a better message we could be sending to our young women would be that if they want to, and they work hard enough, they could be the ones to cure breast cancer. I know that would be a lot better for women and medicine than telling anyone, especially young girls, that they HAVE to wear pink.

In the last several years, I've lost a couple of friends to cancer. Recently, I found out another friend's mom has been diagnosed with it. I've never felt guilty about being healthy or fear getting sick; both of those would be selfish of me.
I also think it gets overlooked, but men can get breast cancer as well. My most recent friend who passed was diagnosed several years ago. His mother passed from breast cancer about 15 years ago. When my friend died this past May, it didn't have me assess where I was, but what I could do.
No one is saying anyone has to wear pink, just be mindful of it. I know there's a jerkoff that posts on this forum that likes to imply "awareness is something Caucasians say" to make themselves feel better. That's someone who continues to look at the world though a peephole.
The purpose of wearing pink is a reminder, similar to a post-it or tying a piece of string on your finger. An awareness/reminder to make sure you inspect your body, know your body, & get checked regularly (in this case with mammograms.) A lot (too many) of people don't think they can get sick or cancer until it happens. That's being REactive instead of PROactive.
Its not to make it a trendy thing for people to feel like they're doing something when they really aren't. If that's what a sect of people see it as, then they aren't seeing the forest from the trees. Its an attempt to motivate people to take care of themselves & do what they can to help those with cancer.

Millions upon millions of dollars are wasted on "raising awareness" campaigns and painting shit pink. Seriously who the fuck has NOT heard of breast cancer by now? Is painting a camera pink going to achieve anything? It serves no purpose but to make people feel better about themselves or for companies to cash in on the misery of others "oh look we have a ribbon on our product, better buy it then people, for each sold we'll give 1c of our massive profits and it'll help "raise awareness".

Would the ALS charities feel the same? It's been around long before the Ice Bucket challenge, yet look at the increase of donations following the awareness. How many people really knew what Lou Gehrig's Disease was?
Unless effected, who really knew about Parkinson's Disease before Michael J. Fox revealed he was diagnosed?

I can't tell you how much I agree with you! I despise the Marvel/DC war! It doesn't make sense at all and I really do not understand why I can't like both. When someone asks me "Do you like Marvel or DC?" I always answer "I like comics". And that's exactly the case: I like good comics, be they published by Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Boom Studios, IDW and so forth. And, yeah, DC fans are always so foccused on the negative that they forget to even see the positive!
As for the pink camera, I think it's a nice gesture on their part! Anything that helps to raise awereness for cancer is a good thing! And I have seen up close what cancer can do!

I think it was a nice thought on their part and I'm certainly not going to criticize them for it, particularly since they planned it so far in advance.

Meanwhile, has anyone else picked up the USA Batman stamps? I grabbed a couple of sheets yesterday, and while they look awesome, the big surprise is that the Batsignal stamps are actually round! I've never seen the USPS do an actual round stamp before.
