'Gotham' S01E03 clip introduces Sal Maroni, plus Gordon and Selina Kyle make a deal (video)

FOX has released the first clips from Gotham Season 1 Episode 3, which is titled "The Balloonman". The videos introduce David Zayas as Sal Maroni, and show Gordon and Selina Kyle making a deal about the Wayne's killer. Check them out below along with a full synopsis.

Detectives Gordon and Bullock track down a vigilante who is killing corrupt Gotham citizens by attaching them to weather balloons. Meanwhile, Oswald Cobblepot returns to Gotham and gets a new job close to an influential figure in the underworld in the all-new “The Balloonman” episode of GOTHAM airing Monday, Oct. 6

While I am loving the show, I hope we don't continue to get these "In Your Face" Batman Easter eggs like we've been getting the past two episodes. I cringed when Selina said she preferred to be called "Cat". Like why? WHY? I did however enjoy it when Bruce sneaked up on Alfred and Gordon and Alfred called him out on it. Ninja Fetus (correction: BABY) Batman! :D

  I didn't mind it, from the perspective that those street kids probably either claim or are given a nickname when they're out there. I doubt "Macky" was his character's real name, and I could see that having a somewhat rarefied name like Selina in that environment could hurt your street cred. Yes, it's somewhat anvillicious, but it fits the character as she's established. If she had been walking around with a cat o'nine tails I would have joined you in your irateness.

  The show lacks subtlety so far, its pandering to the lowest common denominator of viewers, holding our hands to explain who everyone is etc. I want subtle easter eggs that spark debates and water-cooler moments as to what they could mean, who this person could become, or allude to etc. Lost ( amongst others shows) was great at creating that buzz. I would have loved the Wayne murders to have happened at the end of season one, the tension building as we wait for the crime alley incident to unfold and seeing what Bruce and Alfred were like before the event. I think they missed a great opportunity there. Hoping this show evolves beyond what we've seen so far cos it truly has potential. I'm loving the interpretation of Gotham city so far, hope they add more depth and scope to the city as the show moves forward.

    You're not the first person to mention how they felt like the Wayne murders should have occurred during the season finale. I completely agree with you. I actually agree with most of what you're saying about the show. They seem to be wanting to handle us with kid gloves. Maybe it's because we are DC/Batman fans and we know who these characters are. Perhaps we have to look at it from the perspective of someone who doesn't know these characters so well. As an example, just yesterday I was talking with a fellow co-worker about the show and she said she was still trying to figure out who the little homeless girl (Selina Kyle) was going to turn out to be. Of course, I wanted to scratch my head at the fact that she had NO idea she was Catwoman, but I just let it go, not wanting to spoil it for her. I hope the show gets better. I love it, but it isn't without its flaws.

      Yeah it was someone on Batman News that put the idea in my head of the Wayne's murders occurring in the season one finale. Since then I've seen a few reviews of the show mention it too and saying how it was a missed opportunity for the show.
      I already posted this Jeremy Jahns review on B-News but you may not have seen it. It articulated a lot of what I have been feeling about the show and I think you'll agree with some of it.
      At the end of the day I'll still watch Gotham til it finishes (I somehow stayed with Smallville for 10 years!) and enjoy it. But I just want better for it. TV shows have come along way in recent years and unlike summer blockbusters they tend to gravitate towards an older audience. If the characters and stories are gripping and involving on their own merits than it shouldn't matter whether a general viewer recognises the villains or not from Batman lore. As I mentioned on a post below, I was always hoping for Gotham to be like The Wire: A lovesong to a city, showing all aspects of it from corrupt cops to sympathetic criminals, the homeless to the wealthy and influential, and all shades of grey in-between.         I FREAKING LOVE JEREMY JAHNS. 9 times out of 10 I agree with his movie reviews, plus he's freaking hilarious. I just watched his review of the Gotham premiere today and a lot of what he said stuck with me. He too mentions the obvious Easter eggs. I think the route they are taking with the Joker is how they should have handled the other villains - leaving mysterious things here and there that make us think, did we see him? Is this the Joker? It would have been great if they'd done the same with others.
        You are right: TV shows have come a long way. They are so much deeper than they used to be. I am also going to stick with Gotham until it ends. I've done the same with Supernatural and a few other shows I am devoted too, but I do hope for rating purposes the show improves because if it doesn't and ratings drop, FOX will drop it like a hot potato. That is why I appreciate networks like the CW where if a show is only bringing in 2 million viewers a night, but has a devoted fanbase, it'll stay on the air. We'll see.

    I said the same thing. Why start off with the murders. I would have like to see what kind person Thomas & Martha Wayne was. I would have been great to integrate the Court Of Owls in there as well.
    I don't see this show going 7 seasons. UNLESS, they do a 5 year jump similar to Desperate Housewives or Young Justice and bring new life to the show. I don't want to see Bruce for 7 years as a kid.

Okay, the Ballonman vigilante, sounds freakin' AWESOME! I hope that Edward Nygma, dials it back a bit. So far, he's come off as a little too Jim Carrey-ish. I don't understand how Oswald returning to Gotham, makes ANY sense. Wouldn't he be worried about Fish, "catching" him?

Wow, I must say, as strange as it may sound, these two scenes have better writing then both of the episodes released so far. Dialogue doesn't restrict itself to stupid exposition, I love it when some sentences lead to nowhere and could have been cut from the conversation. I didn't like first two episodes at all but I'll take these clips as a good sign... But if this episode turns out the same as the other two I don't know if I'll find enough good will in me to keep watching this show. But I'm still approaching it with an open mind ;)

    That would be great, but I guess we can say goodbye to those hopes ;) It may redeem itself, but a comic book show on FOX will never have that level of quality, it just can't. There are shows like The Wire and then there's FOX ;)

Who else has seen Gone Girl? I've just watched it and Affleck was fantastic in it. Great performance! Dude looks huge!

    I remembered that article whilst watching Gone Girl. His physicality is very imposing in this film, all I could think of was: "Now there's a Batman..".

    Its fairly faithful to the book, a few side characters have less material or cut all together but its to be expected with a film adaptation. As a lover of the book, I thoroughly enjoyed the film with Pike (Oscar worthy) and Affleck superb in their respective roles.

      That's great to hear. I also heard that Tyler Perry was surprisingly good in the film too, which had me concerned because I'm not generally a fan of his acting. LOL. I did hear that Neal Patrick Harris did okay, but a few felt like he was miscast.

        Tyler Perry was really good! Never seen any of his work but I can recall always hearing his name being mentioned in a negative way.He owns the role. Yeah Neal Patrick Harris is good in the role of Desi though he has very little screen time (10 mins) in this 145 mins. I think you'll enjoy the film a lot!

I knew this show was going to be a failure from the beginning. Penguin as a waiter?! He's meant to be a rich boy like Bruce, not some random diner server. And Catwoman witnessing the Wayne murders?! What, she won't figure that Bruce might be Batman later? DC can never get their shows right, they should learn from Marvel on how to build up a Universe.

  Your logic doesn't even make any sense. They may not have seen it with their eyes, but everyone in Gotham knows the Waynes were murdered just the same, and they don't guess Bruce is Batman because of it.

Egh, all enthusiasm for this show was drained out of me when I watched the first episode, it had potential, still does, but God damn did I cringe more than at every other line. Also does Alfred's voice bother anyone else? It sounds like he's talking through Banes mask... On the telephone... Underwater... With throat cancer.

    If you download the wallpaper from Fox.com, it has a bunch of Easter eggs that weren't in the original logo image. "? Hotel," "Ivy Towers," and a casino with a neon fan of cards on top with the Joker in front are all there. I liked the original better myself.

I like these two previews. I've been conflicted on the show so far. I love Gordon and Bullock and their dynamic, but not too fond of the blatant winks at the audience. I like Bruce immediately throwing himself into the mission (and that actor) but I'm not too fond of the soap opera-ish thing going on with Barbara and Montoya. It's been a bit of a mixed bag, but I'm staying on this train. Keep em coming. Glad Penguin found a toothbrush.
