Aquaman was in Man of Steel and we didn't even know it!

Jeff Sneider of The Wrap and the Meet the Movie Press podcast was at a luncheon at the Toronto International Film Festival last week at the Trump Hotel. He overheard some older gentleman who were sitting behind him talking about working with Zack Snyder on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Aquaman was the topic of their discussion -- he's going to be a "buff Hawaiian guy with tribal tattoos" which seems to fit Jason Momoa's profile very nicely.

But more interesting than that is how Aquaman fits into the story. Early on in Man of Steel, Superman saves a bunch of people from a collapsing, fiery oil rig. You can watch a clip in the video above. The oil rig explodes, sending a weakened Superman crashing into the ocean. He can be seen floating in the water at one point, with two giant whales coming to presumably save him and bring him to shore. Sneider reports that the whales were sent by Aquaman, who has the ability to talk to sea animals. Superman and Aquaman may already know each other in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice if they met off-screen in Man of Steel.

I don't think there's any reason to take any of this as rumor. Every big shot in the movie industry attends the Toronto International Film Festival, and Snieder is a great reporter at The Wrap.       from the angle and the place where he held it, it would have been damn difficult even for superman to lift it, for example take a normal stick, you can easily lift it from the middle even with your finger but can you lift it from the edge with your fingers, that's why superman had tough time lifting it, and he didn't even know he could fly at that time, he was still developing his powers.

I think its more a mistake of interpretation, in the sense of how Jason Momoa looks like, not necessary how Aquaman could be look like, but i dont see a problem of he been portrait in that way on film (but still have to be blonde!!!). But that 'Man of Steel' scene is a old theory what could link very well the dots.

  I prefer the tribal look over the blonde look. The tribal look could actually make the character more likable since he breaks away from the typical look everyone knows. Plus having a character that looks like that with long hair or even a beard (like what Mamoa has now) makes him look like a guy who lives in the ocean. When he rising out of the water I don't really expect him to look all neat and clean looking.

    "Tribal" is not the most appropriate way to describe an ethnic identity. I understand what you mean, but you're really just saying that he's darker skinned and has tattoos. He is Polynesian, which you should not think of as interchangeable with "tribal."
    People like to call objects and illustrations "tribal," which is already dumb enough, but using that word to describe someone's natural appearance is 100% not cool. There is a lot of violent colonialist history tied up in that language, so you should probably avoid it unless your direct intention is to offend.

The great thing for batman and superman fans is that they've had multiple live action interpretations of the characters. you know what will work and what won't,Affleck will be a good batman in fact the worst thing the movie could do is make him out of character. superman is fairly simple too just make it bright and enjoyable and tone down the violence a bit and it'll be fine. aquaman is more worrying because no one knows how to make it work. hopefully momoa can pull it off but i don't know.

    Aquaman is very important member in Justice League,and a very important someone in DC universe. So,it is normal when you see some sea related something you automatically think about Aquaman. It is normal. If you are not in 'DC world' that much then you can think connect him with this incident is stupid. But if you are a DC follower then it is normal to connect him. And i thing strongly,and some people too,that explosion in the rig somewhere connected with 'Aquaman world'. May be Aquaman's enemy side did that. Or may be Aquaman did that. Whatever,but his world connected with that explosion. At least there is a strong chance for that.

        The company running the oil rig was the same company in the comics that drilled for oil in Atlantis, thus causing a war between Atlantis and the oil company.
        This was not an accident, Aquaman set the rig on fire (its been confirmed previously). He saw what Clark was doing and sent the whales not to save him, but rather to check on him. When the whales cry out it's them communicating with Aquamsn that Clark is okay.

  Yeah, I just saw it as a moment of serenity for Superman after the whole explosion deal, as a way to show Superman was a hero not only to the humans of earth, but to all the animals in it. I mean why would he need saving considering A) he clearly showed when he saved the bus full of children he has no problem being underwater for long periods of time, and B) when the whales come in you can see he's already awake and conscious.
  Besides I've already talked about the evidence that shows MoS was not written with a shared universe in mind.

    I recently thought about this- whether a shared universe was the plan when they did MOS. I don't think it was. I've always felt that the initial plan was to make a self-contained Superman trilogy like The Dark Knight trilogy.
    However, there are so many Easter eggs in the movie and it seems like they are creating story arcs out of them which I think is brilliant if it turns out well.
    I would be interested in hearing your evidence though because I tend to to agree with this thought.

      I've talked about the easter eggs before and how they were all added in post production. The Wayne Enterprises logo...the Blaze Comics building...those were all done after the movie was done filming and just finishing up.
      The real proof is in the script; namely, what's not in it. And that is references to other people, places, and subjects from comics outside the Superman world. One example of what I'm talking about that they could've done: a world changing event like a hostile alien invasion could've at least merited some direct mention by one of the characters of other cities like, Star City or Gotham. But there were no such things in MoS, which matches up with the idea that this movie had no other franchises in mind when it started.
