Nightwing to star in new live-action TV show 'Titans'

Warner Bros. and DC Comics are looking to team with television network TNT for a live-action Teen Titans show, Titans. The "Teen" label is being dropped so that the show can take a more adult approach.

Titans will star Batman's sidekick Dick Grayson. In the pilot, Grayson "emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new Super Heroes including Starfire, Raven and many others. Titans is a dramatic adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book titles ever."

Akiva Goldsman (Fringe, I Am Legend) will serve as the writer/executive producer, with Warner Horizon Television producing.

The series hasn't been officially picked up by TNT yet, so stay tuned to Batman News for all the latest. Does Titan sound like a show that you'd be interested in? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

      It very well can be in the DCTVU because Warner Bros Television (developer), TNT and The CW are all owned (in part) by Time Warner, Inc. So allowing crossovers would be a lot easier between Flash, Arrow and Titans, than it would be trying to incorporate Gotham (FOX) or Constantine (NBC) into these shows.

  Dude, it was a kids' show... for what it was, I thought it was pretty good, especially the early seasons. After the Terra story arc, it went down hill significantly. It was kind of annoying at how they overly abused anime cliches, but it had some heft to some of the characters and stories.

  Teen Titans Go is bloody hilarious, it reminds me of classic cartoon network shows like PowerPuff Girls and Dexters Lab. It's a but of silly irreverent fun. I can't speak for any other Teen Titans show though.

  I'd like to know what cartoon shows you find entertaining.
  All of the Teen Titan cartoon shows have been wonderful. Admittedly, some are more geared to kids versus Young Justice which was aimed at an older audience. But all had their merit and did the Titans tag justice (no pun intended).

        And if it's separate from Arrow, and Batman is indeed mentioned, the chances are high. WB/DC do not like multiple Batman's, so him being mention in 'Titans' would be the key.

        Yeah I doubt thats happening, they don't like taking too many chances with Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, especially Batman because he is their cash cow. Wonder Woman is seldom used because she is a sorely underestimated super heroin. Superman is the one they take the most chances with in my opinion, but still part of the big 3 so again doubtful.

  I actually liked how they only alluded to the relationship between Batman & Robin, just dropping some hints. I think it was a way to really make sure people didn't think of Robin just as "Batman's Sidekick" and just Robin.

Gotta say DC is really trying to get out there with the with live action stuff (Constantine, Flash, Arrow, Gotham, possible Supergirl and Hourman). I guess with Cartoon networks only wanting cater to little kids instead of a broader audience they're trying to please the older fans

Oh god I hope they do this right. If they do it could destroy any other superhero TV show. But I can't help but feel they'll take the easy approach and target teenagers and teenage girls with cheesy characters and bland writing like Arrow.

  Well, when your not fully immersed in it, yeah, it's kind of dry. Still, super fun show to watch, and they pull off kick-ass scenes unlike Smallville, which was JUST a fun concept.

I'd check it out. I guess it all depends on the execution. I suppose I'd be worried about the CGI that would be involved with characters like Starfire, and it coming off looking cheap/unrealistic.

Not saying this series is unwelcome, but I'd totally let it be cancelled for a Suicide Squad series.
If they go to relationships and we know they'll do, it may feel a little smallvillish. Suicide Squad on the other hand could be a very badass series from the core. :P

  This sounds like an awful idea. Nightwing belongs in the cinematic universe, not some cheap, television show. What a shame. WB has absolutely no idea what they're doing. STOP giving your superheroes to television, they deserve better than that. They deserve the silver screen treatment with the best people working on it and films that actually have good budgets. SCREW Warner Brothers for their greed and impatience. I hope they all get fired for their constant stupidity. What a bunch of moronic fools. Watch them get awful actors like Agents of Shield.
  Hopefully Snyder will fight for both Flash and Green Lantern to be in the Justice League. And I pray to God that they won't include any of these television 'actors'. They're on television for a reason. Please find better actors to be in the Justice League. Film is where the big boys play.

    Calm down. First of all, Zack Snyder won't have to fight for anybody. If he wants Flash and Green Lantern in his movie, they'll be in it. Warner Brothers knows exactly what they're doing. They're trying to make money. Not appease every comic book fan.
    And you don't know what the budget for Teen Titans will be. Or how it will look, or the overall quality. Which means that you're just being pessimistic because WB aren't doing things YOUR way. And there are a ton of characters, that will be prioritised over Nightwing in the DC Cinematic Universe.

The cinematic universe should get first dibs on Supergirl, Nightwing, etc. Not the television department. If you've seen Arrow, you know that it will suck.

      Shit, best point I heard about this show, that is actually a legitimate gripe, the CGI for Starfire, I agree with whoever said that "I hope the animation doesn't come off as cheap or cheesy."

        Well I think that the CGI for Starfire and Raven's powers, will look okay. I mean Smallville did some decent stuff on a TV budget, back in the day. And The Flash, looks to be pretty ambitious. I'll assume that TNT's Titans, will have an even bigger budget.

    There's absolutely no reason why they can't have Nightwing in both this show and the DCCU. They're going to do it with the Flash, Constantine (if that Justice League Dark movie ever gets done) and possibly Green Arrow at some point, why can't they do it with Nightwing? The viewers are smart enough to understand that the shows and the movies are two different things. Am I a bit skeptical about this show? Yes. Am I going to give it a chance? Absolutely!

    AT LEAST NIGHTWING IS GETTING SOME KIND OF SPOTLIGHT.
    Personally, I think that Nightwing is one of the (if not the most) underrated superheroes of all time. I, for one, am really happy that DC is trying to get so much started up.
    Maybe they don't have the resources for multiple big-scale movies. I agree that these characters do deserve the big screen, but at least they're getting on the small screen, and that could build popularity, and who knows, some day before I die, maybe there'll be a Nightwing movie.

      Right up there with Wonder Woman (My list is Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, and Nightwing of being the "Big 3" underrated superheroes, I think Martian Manhunter gets that a lot because he is an alien, no romantic subplots to shoe horn), who to me, is the biggest underrated heroin of them all. She literally punched Darkseid in the face and whooped his ass, almost single handedly, so I don't get why the Amazonian Powerhouse isn't featured prominently, she has some pretty cool villains too like Genocide, Arch, and Ares.

      I hope so brother. Thank you for the kind response. I love Nightwing as well and yes he is underrated, but I just wish DC/WB had more confidence in their characters. The script, director, and casting have to be good but it's certainly possible to have a successful film. Besides, Robin has always been quite popular, you mention Robin and transition to Nightwing in the Batman standalone. It's not that complex.

        The CW is actually co-owned by Time-Warner and CBS; it was created out of the ashes of both The WB and UPN. TNT is wholly-owned by Time Warner; they got it when they ate Turner Broadcasting. It may be worth noting that Turner Broadcasting is semi-autonomous within TW (based in Atlanta, far from the suits in New York) and owns not only TNT but Cartoon Network, home of both Titans cartoon series.

  Because CW already has Arrow and Flash with a couple more DC shows in the works. Even if these shows are all successful, CW doesn't want their network to become a superhero network. They have to bring in other demos.

  Akiva tried to do it in 2006/2007, but didn't go foward. I believe some ideias from that script will be present on the show, what means MAYBE (following that THEORY) we can see Jason Todd at some point.

They will probably mention Batman, I don't see how they couldn't with whats said above about the pilot, but I doubt they'd have a cameo. I think it'd be likely to see references to Batman and Bruce Wayne more often than an actual cameo, Ben Affleck or not.

If DC's TV product keeps going the way it's going I don't know if I care if there's ever another DC movie.
I can either have a hundred hours of superhero TV a year that focus more on story and character or I can have a few hours of movies every couple of years that focus on explosions and special effects. I'll take TV and just imagine that the CG is better.

Honestly, it is a little too much. Especially if this won't connect to the films. Arrow and The Flash make it seem like two different justice leagues. One for the movies and one for tv. Gotham is cool. But Supergirl and this is using too many characters before the DCU even attempts to spread it's wings.
