New 'Batman: Assault on Arkham' clip, next DC animated movies announced

Batman: Assault on Arkham is now available to own via Digital HD, and to celebrate Warner Bros. has released an action-packed new clip. Watch as Batman takes down Amanda Waller's entire tactical unit. Batman: Assault on Arkham will be available on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD on August 12th.

Batman: Assault on Arkham enjoyed a rousing reception at its July 25 premiere at Comic-Con International, delighting a room of 4,250 fans for the screening and panel discussion amongst actors Kevin Conroy (Batman), Matthew Gray Gubler (Riddler), Troy Baker (Joker) and John DiMaggio (King Shark), and producer James Tucker, director Jay Oliva, screenwriter Heath Corson and dialogue director Andrea Romano.

Toward the end of the panel, the next DC animated movies were announced:

Coming in early 2015, the Aquaman origin story, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis
Arriving sometime in the first half of 2015, Batman vs. Robin, which will feature the first-ever animated appearance of The Court of Owls. It will not be based on the comic, however. Producer James Tucker set the record straight on Twitter:

And potentially premiering at Comic-Con 2015 will be Justice League: Gods and Monsters, marking a return to the DCU films by animation legend Bruce Timm for this special film. Timm developed the original story and many of the character designs for Justice League: Gods and Monsters, and is producing the film.

      It was good, but very underwhelming. Not to mention the thousands of plot holes it has and poor handling of certain characters like Harley, Riddler, Waller, etc.

Yesterday I lost it and bought all the DC animated movies on Blu-ray.. needless to say, my wallet isn't as heavy today. Never browse through eBay at 3am right after watching the amazing animated film Wonder Woman. -.-

i'm so glad Bruce Timm is returning to animation with DC it's where he belongs. Now give us another animated DC show!! Then someone find a way to get involved with WB's DC Cinematic Universe!! That's all I ask. (that's not too much is it??)

  Geoff Johns is an executive producer for BvS. As for the new JL series, I'd be so down for that. It probably wouldn't be based on the New 52 tho, since it appears that they're adapting the story archs for the animated movies... Nonetheless, I'd watch it, especially if Bruce Timm and/or Paul Dini were involved.

    I loved Avengers EMH. I was disappointed when they cancelled and replaced it with Avengers Assemble. And I would hope that if DC did a new JL show, it wouldn't get cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons. Seems like they can't keep any shows at all, Young Justice, Green Lantern, even Beware the Batman, all cancelled quickly. Don't know if it's DC/WB or Cartoon Network's fault

Batman vs Robin? What? What's that going to be about? Is it Damian Wayne Robin or another Robin like Dick or Tim? I have no idea where they got that idea from. Sounds weird, let's hope it is good, though.
On another note, I am super excited for the return of BRUCE TIMM!!!!! Justice League: Gods and Monsters is going to be so good!

  I dunno, they haven't given a premise for it. It could be anything but it's obviously about magical gods and monsters. Like maybe it has to do with Wonder Woman's background in Greek Mythology. Or it's and origin story for Zatanna. . . plenty of possibilities.

  That's the thing. Has he? The dude just brings up Lobo, when asked about it. I'm expecting the big reveal at the end of Batman v. Superman, to be a villain or villains. Maybe even Victor Stone, transforming into Cyborg. Not Momoa rising from the sea.

    Interesting. Snyder probably won't adapt the Throne of Atlantis story arc at all. It's already coming out in animation form, on DVD. I'm not sure how the other characters will be introduced in the upcoming live-action DC movies, though. I'm sure Batman v. Superman will tell a focused story, and not just throw in random cameos.

    The downside to that is that they've already positioned this one as "Batman v. Superman," so to make Aquaman the "villain" of the JL movie means they would have two films in a row centered on heroes fighting each other (regardless of how much actual fighting there is between Clark and Bruce in BvS). The trouble is, how many decent villains are there that pose enough of a threat to warrant the classic JL lineup? If they bring out Starro they'll be laughed out of business. Doctor Destiny maybe, and he could even be teased in the JGL Sandman movie.

      Really? Do you even know your Justice League villains well? There are lots of villains which could be great as the team's first villain in the Justice League movie.
      And keep in mind that it's not like there's a rule that says there can only be one villain in the movie. They can mix and match two or more villains together. If they're really bold they could even use the Secret Society, but I'd rather see them used in a sequel once the team is already established.

Wait wait wait... This Gods & Monsters thing. Is this just Bruce Timm returning as a producer (good enough on its own) or is it set in the Justice League Unlimited universe (which would be amazing)?

  The report says Timm developed the original story for the movie as well as many of the character designs, so it's not just as producer that's for sure.

That animated fight scene although brief, looked absolutely awesome. If Zack Snyder can find away to make Batman's fight scenes look exactly like that live action I will die.

  I really hope he will fight like that, I mean, 1989 Batman is practically my most favorite Batman movie up till now (Snyder's BvS could actually beat it, so I have a new favorite), but was still a little stiff in the fight scenes; which is okay, because it's shot in 1989 and all. But don't let me start about Nolan's take on fighting, because that was just a comedy act. So I hope he will be as resourceful in combat as in the animated movies and series / comics. Much like the Batman Arkham games, but then just a little bit more smooth!
  Also off topic: Jumping out of a window to catch Rachel and then landing on a car, couldn't break any bones right? Because that's what they are trying to make you believe. (Sorry had to mention it.). And to be honest, instead he could have just used a grapnel gun to stay in the air while catching rachel along the way. That is what they did in all the animated products, so why the heck did Nolan mess that part up...

    Well, watch it again friend because how I remember it; is that they are falling, rachel is being held by Bats and the cape just waves around and not in gliding mode. Also if I remember it correctly, it waves really wild and uncontrollable. Just watch it man, and indeeed Ben Affleck is the best comic book - Bruce wayne - looking guy there is! He will nerd gasm all of the haters! Mark my words! :D

I watched Assault on Arkham & i really enjoyed it! It was very refreshing to see a good Batman animated movie. I liked seeing Batman from third person perspective & the suicide squade was loads of fun seeing them in action & working together. Man i feel like playing arkham games! I loved the ending with the reveals were made. Lots of nudity lol

Speaking of Arkham. I finally played that Arkham Origins: Blackgate game. I thought it was great. Gameplay wise it plays a lot like the original Arkham Asylum.

    Yeah, it ended up taking probably two dedicated weeks, much longer than I'd first hoped. Most of the work, though, on these "2.5D" animations, is very boring and mindless, so I was actually just listening to a Michael Crichton audiobook ('State of Fear') and taking it easy.
    Doing the 2D stuff is not as psychologically gratifying as building actual 3D models, and so I definitely won't be doing any more.

        Thanks for the compliment. (Although I think most any artistry was done at the level of the original writer and illustrator. My work was largely technical, although there certainly were indeed also many creative choices.)

        Btw, is this the original origin story of Batman, as in the early (I dunno, 1940's maybe) story? I didnn't have any time to actually read it all, but I will, cause I am very interested :D
        Btw, I am also writing a fan fiction about Batman, also loosely based on the Animated series, also with a lot of comic influences. I would like to ask you if you would like to read it? :) I would be very happy to hear some tips or criticism from a real fan's perspective, cause I've only shown it to people who didn't knew Batman so well..
        Edit: Also, you must know I am a Dutchman, so my English is pretty good, though there could be some flaws along the way that you might be able to spot

        Yeah, you can read the origin story of Batman (obviously, it's been tweaked several times over the years) in, I believe, Batman #1. You can find that very easily online.
        As shown in the video, these comic strips - which I did not write or illustrate, but only animated - were published in 1993 in the same style as 'The Batman Adventures' comic which, in turn, was premised off of 'The Animated Series'.
        I suppose I can take a look at your fan fiction if it's short. What is your e-mail address? I have to tell you, though, that I have ZERO connections to Hollywood or the comic book industry, and so I have nothing to offer you in terms of "connections" or paid work.

        I am on page 60 or something, 3 chapters and began at the 4th, with a few pages in the process.

        I will say, as a personal aside, that I think any act of creation - whether it's building a car, making an ice sculpture, or writing fanfic, is a good thing. There are many people who lament that their creations never achieved financial success, and my expression to them is always, "Creation is its own reward."

        The Arkhamverse.com message boards are very lively, and they do have a space for fanfic. I don't write or read fanfic, really, and so I can't compare how much feedback you'd get there versus elsewhere, but I can plainly see that they have a busy, fun community over there.
        Also, share it with your PERSONAL friends and family, too. I know that can be embarrassing, but they're much more likely to make the time for you, because they know and love you!

        True, but my personal friends and family aren't really Batman fans, also they don't have so much time as I have, so they pretty much don't have the moments to read it all... It's a very dedicated novel in the context of a fanfic, I mean, it's not supposed to be just 60 pages right? I wanna head up to about 200 pages total, so I still have a lot to write. But to keep it clean, here are some quotes from the foreword:
        "The novel is written from a third person perspective, in past tense and
        switches from Bruce Wayne / Batman to Dan Lewis and other involved characters
        in the story."
        "I’m trying to make a whole new adventure of the Dark Knight, but with a slight
        adjustment, namely: Dan Lewis. He is
        someone, who accidently discovers his future friend, ‘brother’ and partner.
        Batman. And at first it seems like he will never accept Dan Lewis into his
        life, but that all will change pretty quick. Together they must face a bunch of
        enemies and Dan Lewis meets a lot of heroes in this story, which makes him even
        more dangerous for the criminals of Gotham."
        And of course, the Dark Knight word I mentioned there, wasn't meant as the Nolan movies, just one of the aliases of Batman used in the line. Just to make it more clear haha
        That's kinda all you need to know as a little summary :P

        That's cool. So it sounds like Robin's got some competition for Batman's new buddy, in your fanfic world.
        You might be able to find a family member or friend who'll read it for you. Even if they're not Batman fans, most people under 50 have seen at least one or two of the movies, and so they know the context of things.

        Ha ha: I didn't know that you were saying the character was the new Robin. Gee whiz: When I was a kid, there were three Robins: Dick Grayson, who was now a grown man, Jason Todd, who was dead, and Tim Drake, who was new. This put Batman at around 40 years old. Now....there have been about a dozen different Robins!

        (Random factoid: The issue where Dick Grayson learned that Jason Todd was killed was 'The New Titans' #55.)

Assault on Arkham is a really good animated film. Really fun to watch, keeps you on your toes, lots of surprising moments.

Hmm as a Batman fan I'm always looking forward to any feature about him however I'm also really looking forward to Aquaman as well, I read his new 52 comics recently and I really enjoyed them.

It sucks. Batman isnt even in it and the story is completely different from arkham. Its not even close. Kinda wierd considering they used the exact same logo and scenery from the arkham assylum.

  No one ever said it was an adaptation of the Arkham games. It's a story that takes place within that same universe. Not a direct adaptation.
  They had a lot of the same voices and, as you said, set pieces (Arkham looked the same, as did the iceberg lounge). It didn't contradict the timeline at all.
  This game took place after Arkham Origins but before Arkham Asylum.

After eating the comments here, am I the only one who was disappointed with the movie? I thought it was very underwhelming. It's also filled with millions of plot holes that took me out of the movie every 2 minutes.

  Dark Knight Returns was the only recent DC animated movie I liked. I find the vast majority of them to be very disappointing so I'm just gonna go ahead and agree with you. Because after seeing the trailer for this movie there is absolutely zero chance this is anything I want to ever see. But I'm a SHEEEEEEEP!

    I just watched it and thought it was pretty cool. I love the Gotham villains almost more than any of the other villains in the DC universe, so maybe I just enjoyed it much more because of that. I don't necessarily think that it "revolved" around the villains more than Batman, more that it took place from their point of view. The only thing that kind of bothered me about it to an extent was how since it was supposed to be based on the Arkham video game series, I think they rushed the actual Arkham takeover and Batman vs. next villain bit. Would have been cool if he actually battled Ivy and his tussle with Bane was a bit more involved.

this was really more of a Suicide Squad movie than a Batman movie. i enjoyed it okay, but...

i couldn't figure out why Harley went with the Joker. it's so weirdly ambiguous and ambiguity is not something those characters have, generally. it's not enough to say: because she's Harley because it never actually feels like she made the choice. i kept waiting for her to double-cross him, but that never happened either and then i started wondering: so, really, did she shoot at him to actually break him out? because that's not what it felt like. very strange.

    Why is it a plot hole, I think you should just assume that she missed all those shots to create that hole, so ultimately Joker could escape and thus, she was holding the truth back at all of these moments that she was together with the Squad, among Waller and when she fought and got interrogated by Bats. Remember that these occurences aren't called Plot Holes, but just Plot Twists?
