Should've been "world's finest" or no subtitle at all. Glad they stuck with B vs S though

No it should not have been Worlds finest. This is Batman and Supes first meeting. So it doesn't make sense.

Not to nitpick but shouldn't it be called Superman vs Batman: Dawn of Justice. Since it's a direct sequel to Man of Steel shouldn't Superman's name be first in the title.

    Incoming long post.
Okay let me make a list of my thoughts:
    1. I always said that a "Batman vs Superman" title would be bad, cheesy and lazy BUT...I have to admit.."Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" doesn't sound that bad..I actually like it! I mean of course I would have preferred "Man of Steel: Trinity"(credit to BAT OF STEEL for title) or "Man of Steel: Worlds Finest" but it's actually not bad. Of course I would have preferred "Superman v Batman: Dawn of Justice" but oh well.
    2. I'm actually glad that people are being negative about this film because I strongly believe that the opposite of what happened to Man of Steel will happen to this movie..what's that? People were super hyped for Man of Steel and everyone said it looked amazing and it would be the best and many were disappointed..well now most people say this movie will fail and it's going to be horrible and they are going to be taken by surprise and will either end up liking, loving the movie or the worst that will happen...they'll be okay with it.
    3. One thing I love about the title is that Zack Snyder is going full comic book nerd on this movie with the comicbooky batsuit and title!! I love when Zack lets his inner nerd out!
    4. Last but not least, I remain and shall always remain a supporter of this movie. LET'S GO DC!

Well said, but I have to differ on MOS, it was a great film, it's just people were expecting a Christopher Reeves/ Donner interpretation and weren't ready for a more comic-book based Superman. Critics especially wanted a Superman that saved a cat from a tree and was all chivalrous with Lois Lane.
My only quibble was the "in your face" Jesus references. I mean seriously, they could've made him more universal than that. Hell, you can correlate any superhero with a religious figure. What's the point? Instead explore how they confront their human flaws so that audiences relate to them more. Meh

      1. Knight-Errant Avatar

Yet, when they got that version of Superman Returns, the complaints were it wasn't anything new and interesting. Some people just like to watch the world burn. Others bitch because its not burning fast enough.

        1. El Fuego Asciende Avatar
          El Fuego Asciende

Critics liked SR yet majority of fans were expecting more from what I remember. The reverse happened with MOS.

Man of Steel has a lot that was great, like the acting and special effects, but it still had problems. It's like they filmed based off of a rough draft of an even better movie. And most critics probably hated it because on top of that it was totally different from the versions they're used to. Is that wrong, no; were most of their arguments and ways they thought it could've been better really stupid, hell yeah.

I have been watching these comments today since about 22 comments had been posted. I am absolutely amazed at the amount of negativity surrounding this project. The people claiming this is a guaranteed fail amaze me the most. Why so much hate for a movie that has only just got an official title, one official photo and cast releases? What basis or evidence is available to make such substantial claims? I find it hard to believe that everyone can hate every decision WB makes but loves every decision that Marvel Studios makes. It is hard to believe that a talking raccoon can be accepted and welcomed with open arms but not a Batman Superman film bringing the worlds oldest heroes together for the first time.

  15. Myotis Avatar

    Where do I start? Ok.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a LAZY A** TITLE!

This is the FIRST time I'm very disappointed in this soon to be "Best Movie Of All Time". I can't criticize any actor (Jesse Eisenberg) because for all we know they were so great in their audition that they could give the best performance of their lives in this movie & many of us might refer to them to making Heath Ledger performance.

This title confirms the "villain" of the movie is Batman. Superman will fight him for 80-90% of the movie & in the last minute we will get a OHH! "dawn of Justice" AHH! (League). (BS they are f****** spoiling it already) <-- Yes all of us know Justice League will be the sequel to this movie but still they are spoiling it. You can only make them fight for a while before one completely destroys the other. Now I'm worried they won't be creative in the fight & instead give Batman a STUPID Robot-Iron-man tank suit fully loaded with the s*** concept of defeating superman: kryptonite or have Superman flick his finger sending Batman into orbit.

They should of called it for what Batman and Superman are: (THE) WORLD'S FINEST.

The new logo is AMAZING but the title isn't for me. At least it's way better than the complete-garbage-rumored-titles we got: Man of Steel: Battle the Knight, MOS: Knightfalls, MOS: Fight or Flight etc...

Before anyone says I'm simply hating, this is coming from the guy who strongly believes Ben Affleck's new Batsuit is the BEST BATMAN SUIT EVER! So much work went into that PERFECT suit, I'd cry if the movie becomes a train wreck.

    1. Knight-Errant Avatar
      Knight-Errant

Did you NOT think Batman & Kent were going to fight in the movie or that Justice League (which is filming back-to-back) was not the follow up to this movie until this title was released?

Why no "World's Finest"? Simple, 'Batman' is not in the title. Adding 'vs. Superman' means civilians will know they fight each other. "World's Finest" could imply they're bestest buddies in a buddy hero movie.

      1. Myotis Avatar
        Myotis

Yo it's obvious Batman and Superman will fight we all knew this since Comic-Con 2013 (TDKReturn's quote). We also know Justice League is the sequel via WB's confirmation a few weeks ago. Didn't you read what I wrote? "Yes all of us know Justice League will be the sequel to this movie but still they are spoiling it" to the general public by putting it in the title.

I'm saying the title is LAZY for a movie of this amazing magnitude. You DON'T know if they are filming back to back that's merely good speculation. How would you like it if TDK was titled Batman vs. Joker? Etc.. Civilians would know who would fight who, but it's still a lazy title.

Batman doesn't have to be in the title to sell tickets. Look at BBegins and TDK. Yes a "World's Finest" title can mean anything just as "Man of Steel" title can be about a paralyzed man accomplishing a goal enduring the pain. If WB is so desperate to sell tickets they could of gone the Metal Gear Solid V route. The title of the game is MGSV: The Phantom Pain but at the end of the trailer it's marketed FOX vs. XOF.

They SHOULD title it World's Finest because that's how they we're known in the freaking COMICS/one animated movie. It would be a mystery to the public but then WB could SIMPLY market the s*** out of it by making the last frame of a future trailer say Batman v Superman & take it to Twitter or whatever & say #batmanvsuperman. No need for lazy "Dawn of Something" title trying to imitate DOTPOTA. If they are really that lazy then fine they can call it Batman v Superman instead of Batman "versus" Superman (grammatically). But that "Dawn of Justice" ("league" - whisper) is so cheesy it isn't funny. The title is a mouthful. I don't hate it THE PICTURE IS AMAZING. The title isn't. Maybe it will grow on me someday.

        1. Knight-Errant Avatar
          Knight-Errant

Truthfully, I really don't think civilians give a flying fuck. Marvel Studios said since Day 1 Captain America 2's official title "The Winter Soldier" was announced who he was. Their response about not keeping it a secret was that comic book fans already know & either the non-readers don't follow the press releases or care.

If you ask a civilian what the 'Dawn of Justice' part means they probably won't know. I tested it, the people had no idea. It's not spoiling anything for the civilians.

The Dark Knight was a gamble as the title. It paid off, but still a gamble. It doesn't take an Acme Super Genius to realize if Joker is in a Batman movie, they're gonna fight.

Your reasonings just boil down to you not liking the name they went with instead of yours. That's okay, but don't exaggerate that civilians are getting a spoiler in the title.

          1. Myotis Avatar
            Myotisreplying to Knight-Errant

They might. Yes the point is I'm not a fan (I don't hate it tho because the logo looks nice) of the new title because they could of went with what I'm suggesting.

What also bugs me is that if the title I like is one many fans like, why can't the studio come up with something better and instead of something lazy? The MGSV route would of been fine if they are desperate for cash.

          2. Knight-Errant Avatar
            Knight-Errantreplying to Myotis

I don't care for an older, grizzled Batman being in this movie universe. I don't care for not getting another solo Superman film or how fanboys want the movie filled with Bat-cast members.

Those things I don't care for and $.69 will buy me watered down coffee at the nearby McDonalds.

What I want doesn't mean it'll be better then what they're going to give us. It is what it is.

          3. Myotis Avatar
            Myotisreplying to Knight-Errant

Your last two sentences are true. But what the title we got isn't the best title for this film. Imagine your favorite thing had a movie or story adaption. Would you like it if it wasn't titled for what they are or it was was titled "S***: The movie". I'm not saying this title is very bad because the other rumored ones were terrible. I just wish it was better and not lazy.

          4. Knight-Errant Avatar
            Knight-Errantreplying to Myotis

"World's Finest" is lazy. They might BE the world's finest, but no one calls them that when they partner together outside that one title years ago.

They don't even know each other in the movie. If they spend (presumably) most of their interaction fighting, why would they be labeled "world's finest."

Are there better names, sure. Is World's Finest" original, no. It's just reusing a title.

"Batman Forever", "Superman IV: the Quest for Peace", "Superman Returns", "Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds" are not that exciting, but they were original.

          5. Myotis Avatar
            Myotisreplying to Knight-Errant

Ok fine. But Marvel reusing their titles in nearly all their movies have proven success. Like I said in the other comment thread yes original is required but don't tell me the subtitle of this movie isn't lazy and desperate.

Or something similar to reference it's sequel. You can take any title so you don't have to call me a Nolanite or Marvelite. Ex. Spider-Man v Electro: Rise of Sinister. Captain America v Winter Soldier: Dawn of Ultron. Superman v Zod: Dawn of Darkness. The s*** goes on.

Javon don't get me wrong I absolutely can't wait for this EPIC of a movie. It's the first and hopefully only thing that leaves me disappointed. We all know it's heading to a Justice League film. There is no need to out it in the title it makes it lazy.

That's what makes it lazy. It's desperately telling you the plot of a sequel in order to get cash. It's like if The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was titled Spider-Man v Electro: Rise of the Sinister Six or The Dark Knight was titled Batman v Joker: Dawn of Mercenaries. WB can do so much better. But fine we'll leave it at that.

"Worlds finest " ... Dude. The 80's, and not to say your from the era. Buuuuuuuut, it's not FRESH ENOUGH. This title works. For them and the league. It just seems lazy cause we kept seeing this same logo and title for months. So now that we have a tag line. (Smh) I mean get that you mean. But it's way double edge Sword.

            Myotisreplying to Javon Cooper

Lol I hate using Marvel as an example because I prefer DC but here: The Avengers is a 1963 title and look how that title was used in 2012 Marvel's The Avengers. Now that title is FRESH ENOUGH to the audience. If they are desperate then Batman v Superman is fine and somewhat fresh (somewhat lazy) however that "Dawn of Justice" subtitle makes it lazy like all the other titles I mentioned. It's like it's inspired by Dawn of the Planet of the apes.

The logo is Amazing tho. But the title is like it came from a children's video game.

          8. lethargicj Avatar

Avengers is an old title, but it's still a relevant title. The Avengers comic book is still called The Avengers and The Avengers ARE The Avengers and they've always been called The Avengers.

World's Finest, however, is a title that has been used for dozens of DC characters. It is NOT a relevant Superman/Batman title. S/B teamed up under the World's Finest moniker many times over the years, but so did Green Arrow, Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, etc, etc, etc.

It's only been used for them sporadically and it has been many years since it was. The current World's Finest title is about Power Girl and The Huntress. The World's Finest title before that was Superboy and Robin and other sidekicks. Batman and Superman have nothing to do with it anymore.

Actually, the full title to ASM2 is Amazing Spider-man 2: The Rise of Electro.

So, you were spoiled when GIJoe: The Rise of Cobra was the official title?

          1. Myotis Avatar
            Myotisreplying to Knight-Errant

No that's the international title. In the U.S it's just The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

OMG YO You are not getting the point!!!!
I wasn't spoiled with GiJoe. Any two year old would say Cobra was in it plot wise.

I'm saying these are lazy titles anyone can come up with. If you are making a great film don't be a lazya*** and give it a weak title.

          2. Knight-Errant Avatar
            Knight-Errantreplying to Myotis

Yeah, and using "World's Finest" isn't lazy. It's not like it was the title of storylines & a comic book series. The Superman/Batman title written by Loeb didn't even use the name.

And I DO get the point; you don't like the title because its not the one YOU wanted. Hence why you say its lazy. I guess it progress. You could've labeled it as stupid.

And it wouldn't take that same 2 year old to realize Batman & Joker were going to fight in The Dark Knight.

          3. Myotis Avatar
            Myotisreplying to Knight-Errant

LOL no you don't get the point. Let me repeat it for you "these are titles anyone can come up with" which is LAZY. I don't like using Marvel as an example because I prefer DC but here: In the 1963 Marvel initiated The Avengers. You think Marvel said "oh let's not call our 2012 movie The Avengers because it's the name of an old comic". No they gave their fans what they want because that's what the TEAM is labeled. They didn't call it "Avenging Heroes" or something like that.

By your logic WB should title the Justice League movie something other than JUSTICE LEAGUE like "The League of Justice"

That's what Batman and Superman are labeled. But ok fine YOU don't like that. I'm not a fan of the title not because it's not the one I (and many fans) want. I wanted something better than this title.

Something that MIGHT use their proper label or better. If they really wanted Batman and Superman in the title then Batman v Superman is better than Batman versus Superman (<- yes it's the same thing but it's how you SAY IT). Leave that "Dawn of Justice out of it it make its weak

          4. Knight-Errant Avatar
            Knight-Errantreplying to Myotis

Its funny, I tweeted out your notion that "Dawn of Justice" is lazy but reusing a comic book title isn't lazy. Didn't bold to well in your favor.

By the way, when they're partnered together, no one says "look, it's the World's Finest. They came to save us." Like they'd say about the Avengers or Fantastic Four or the X-Men or the Justice League or Doom Patrol or Teen Titans...

See why your Avengers example doesn't work to strengthen your argument?

            Good try, though.

          5. Myotis Avatar
            Myotisreplying to Knight-Errant

You made your valid point in your second paragraph. But why not call it World's Finest? Is it really that bad to use a title from the past. It worked well for Marvel why not for DC? It many be a name forgotten but it can be brought back.

I'm simply expecting something better than a title that desperately foreshadows the plot of its sequel in order to get cash. Batman v Superman would be somewhat (because tells you like if TDK was titled Batman v Joker... Both are iconic but lazy) but it's OK. Dawn of Justice is like a low budget video game title, a title anyone can come up with.

          6. Knight-Errant Avatar
            Knight-Errantreplying to Myotis

When did Marvel do it? Avengers? X-Men? Fantastic Four? Guardians of the Galaxy? That's the names of the teams.

          7. Myotis Avatar
            Myotisreplying to Knight-Errant

They are also the name of their respective comics. But fine if you really love this new title I won't argue.

          8. Knight-Errant Avatar
            Knight-Errantreplying to Myotis

I didn't say I loved the title. I'm saying the title "Avengers" for the movie is based on the name of the team. The name of the comic book is based on the name of the team.

When the Justice League movie is released, I expect it to be called "Justice League" because that's the name of the team, not because it's the name of the comic book.

They didn't call the original Superman movie "Superman" because of the name of the comic book. It's because its the name of the character. The movie wasn't called "Action Comics".

Superman & Batman don't form team "World's Finest". It was the name of the comic book!

I need a vodka on the rocks with a lime. Stat!

Ok. But if the Justice League movie is called:
            Justice Leaguers
            Justice for All
            League of Justice
            or
Super 7 with any being a subtitle instead of it being called what it's supposed to be: Justice League

This movie serves as a lot of things:
    1. A continuation (sequel) of the Man Of Steel franchise
    2. A sequel of this newly introduced Batman character because he is a seasoned hero who has a lot of backstory to tell in future Batfleck movies.
    3. A Justice League prequel
    4. A WW sequel depending on if they treat WW in this movie as if it's 1st movie in a ive-action WW franchise. If not, then it would make most sense to have this movie be a sequel to WW because I would imagine this film would take place after WW has had some experience fighitng bad guys.
