WonderCon 2014: Batman 75 panel featuring Kevin Conroy, Kevin Smith, Jim Lee, and more (video)

If you weren't able to attend the Batman 75 WonderCon panel last weekend, you're in luck! DC has put the entire thing online to celebrate crossing the 200,000 subscriber mark on their YouTube channel. Check out the once-in-a-lifetime Batman 75th Anniversary panel featuring Kevin Conroy, Jim Lee, Bruce Timm, Peter Girardi, Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman.

Great panel! Jim Lee is so awesome and hearing him say that there essentially isn't one definitive Batman (because it's up to us as readers/fans to choose the many iterations/interpretations of the character and determine who he is and what he means to us) says so much about why Batman has been around for 75 years. Here's to another 75!

PS. LOL @ Kevin Smith leaving work early to see Batman '89 and denying Batman '66 like Peter did to Jesus

OMG OMG. Jim Lee is just SOOOO wrong! DCU is CANON, baby, all else sux! Jason Todd is a zombie who can rise from the dead, Batman is a deadbeat dad to a homicidal kid, and all the womyn in Gotham City are lesbians because GRRRL POWER! Bat-Family foreva!
No, I'm kidding. What Jim Lee said is both accurate and common sense, but I'm always amazed at how modern pop culture addicts actually enjoy being told by some businessmen which stories are "canon", actively desiring to be told what to read and what to enjoy.
It was bad enough when "canon" idiocy consumed Star Wars fandom when the prequel movies came out. But as I saw DC inject absurd "canon" strategies into Batman (which is even older and open-ended than Star Wars) and I saw fans lap this up, I accepted that I'm simply different.

This was great. However, it could've been SOOOO much better! It really left much to be desired. Everything was just so rushed and shoehorned in that certain aspects of the mythology and history got no real commentary.
I would've loved to hear what guys like Lee and Timm thought about TDK trilogy since they're true comic guys. Plus, more talk on the Arkham games would've been nice... who of them have played the games, how do they maybe see Rocksteady closing out the series (minus Conroy since he'd already know), etc. Maybe something about the now announced Justice League film, and perhaps what arcs they would like to see inspiration drawn from. I could list more for the other eras, but I won't drag on.
All in all, still a neat watch! Had Paul Dini been there as well, it would've been ideal.

I agree, but I read somewhere that Bruce Timm does not like Nolan's take on Batman. If that is true, its no wonder they avoided to talk much about it.

  I haven't seen or heard Timm comment on Nolan's trilogy but I think that Dini likes it. I saw a tweet shortly after Rises' release where he called the finale "appropriate."
  *EDIT* Actually, I think that I read that Timm loved Ledger's Joker. (He didn't comment on the movie though.)

    I think it was discussed here at bat-news, on the post with the batman beyond short. Somebody noticed that the final scene didn't include the Nolan batman amoung the other versions, and then somebody said it was because Bruce Timm was not fond of Nolan's interpretation.

      Pretty pretentious of Timm then. The purpose was to honour 75 years of Batman -- The Dark Knight Trilogy was the newest interpretation and was both critically and commercially successful. He honoured "Man of Steel," which is divisive as hell, in his Superman anniversary short.

  Jealous? why? he is not my favorite actor or director. i just don't like him. his type. he said rubbish about bale. who is a legendary actor of this generation. if you see top three est talent in hollywood's this era he is one of the top three. other two no doubt dicaprio and depp. and he is so friendly with those people on marvel who is dc's ill-wishers. and expect bad thing for dc all the time. so how can i trust him or think he is dc guy. whatever. i just dont like the man. i dislike his almost everything. his behavior,the way he talk,his work etc.

    What about Daniel Day Lewis? He'd no doubt best all three. Not to disrespect guys like Bale, Depp or Dicaprio, but DDL is on a level of his own!

      he also a brilliant actor but can't surpass those three. depp and bale specially. just look bale and depp's filmography. both are so versatile. yes,leo is remy pitative,but a great actor. bale won academy and golden globe before touch 40. his work as child artist in empire of the sun was brilliant. notable. a erican psycho,the dark knight trilogy,the fighter,public enemies,the prestige,out of the furnace,american hustle....OH! MY! GOD! Look at his filmography. he is just 40. after maximum 10 hears where he will be? no.1,the best actor of this era of acting! no doubt. depp also a great actor. master of versatility. i love three of them. all are great actor with own style.
