Zack Snyder to direct 'Justice League' after 'Batman vs. Superman' (update)

Warner Bros. president of worldwide production Greg Silverman just confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that the studio has set plans to make a Justice League movie after Batman vs. Superman. Justice League will be directed by Zack Snyder with all the major Batman vs. Superman players returning to reprise their roles.

"It will be a further expansion of this universe," said Silverman. "Superman vs Batman will lead into Justice League." It's interesting that the Warner Bros. president was quoted as calling the movie "Superman vs. Batman"... do we have an official title?

A script is currently being developed and a release date for Justice League has not been announced. Silverman wouldn't comment on which heroes would join Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg in the movie.

Update: Latino Review and a writer for The Hollywood Reporter claim that Justice League will be released in 2017 and shoot back-to-back with Batman vs. Superman. Look for an official announcement in July at Comic-Con.

    David Goyer gets a bad wrap. The man knows his shit when it comes to the mythology of DC. I'm happy to let him craft a story but I do love having a more nuanced writer kind of carving out more fine details when it comes to the script.

        See, I found that line silly and lighthearted in an otherwise dark movie. Some of the lines Zod and the baddies had, however, were cringe worthy.

        It was him and Jonathan Nolan, and if you watch Person of Interest at all, you can most definitely see who wrote what in TDK trilogy.
        Like, have you ever played Call of Duty: Black Ops 2? The Admiral that says "cock sucker" every other sentence? THAT is clearly how Goyer writes.

      He knows his comic books and can come up with some interesting ideas. But as far as crafting a story or writing a decent screenplay, he's terrible. I lost count of how many cringe-worthy lines he had in Batman Begins and Man of Steel.

        But it was co-written by Chris Nolan. Look at Goyer's non-Batman work. Pretty lousy. That tells me that it was Nolan who had more to do with Batman turning out as well as it did. Have you noticed that Goyer and Nolan haven't collaborated on anything outside of Batman and Superman? Gee, I wonder why.

    Goyer is an ideas guy, he has interesting concepts and interesting plot twists and ideas. But he isn't a good screenwriter. Characters, story, and dialogue are all jumbled, bloated, and too corney for the style he's going for.

  I honestly don't mind Goyer as an idea man, but him writing the entire screenplay is what made it fail. But I think it's both Goyer and Snyder, their combination doesn't work.

      I think its good when Goyer works with other people. Kinda like what they seem to be doing with BvS. Cause Goyer is good at stories but not always great at the overall writing, so it seems like a nice idea to have him but have him partnered with other people so its not just all his work.

  Goyer's not bad, he just needs someone to bounce off of. I think it's evident between the scripts for Begins and Man of Steel that he works best with someone like Nolan, rather than solo.

  goyer's not bad at all; he may had his stumbles in the past but hey, besides the obvious citation (TDK co- writer, i know) he gave us the first blade movie which was pretty badass IMO, not as big as JL obviously will be, but the guy can certainly write.

  I use to think years back, man, would be great if a real Director came along who loves the source material and did Batman right. I saw 300 and thought to myself, this guy has to do Batman. Then, Watchmen came out, and I thought absolutely no other guy would be right for the job. Finally, Zack Snyder slam dunks Superman and you want someone else to direct this stuff? No freakin' way man.

      and that's only because people just can't let go of Christopher Reeve as superman
      Man of Steel was the closest adaptation in movie anyone has come to portraying supes as the big guns of JL he is

        After rewatching MoS, a lot of things totally point toward the future and how intentional everything was. Most of the problems that people have with it stems from the fact that they think the next film won't impact the next since it's just a solo "origin" film.

        I am a very long time Superman fan, before Reeves(who I thought was OK but not great), and have seen lots of versions of Superman--dozens--in comics, TV, movies--and for me, Snyder's is the worst by far--he seems to capture nothing of Superman's soul, which most other versions did--the 90's cartoons by Bruce Timm were great, the "edgy" version in Millers Dark Knight was a new angle, but right on re the character in the end--Snyder just missed everything, and, maybe even worse, directed a total mess of a movie--which, yes, most people thought was one of if not the most disappointing films ever.

        They showed one scene of metropolis in the end, maybe this was the part of the city that wasn't 9/11'd......maybe the daily planet building shown is not the one blown up but a different secondary building....who knows?
        anyway i wasn't talking about the destruction itself but the fact that the destruction was so much and was basically because of superman that may be part of the plot in BvS.

      The "vocal minority" had no influence on MoS' average reviews. That was done by critics, who mostly agreed it was a bland movie.

I'm hyped up for BvS and for JL, but I'm kind of upset that they will be leading into one another. I was hoping for some solo movies in between. Especially for WW, I fear there won't be enough time to tell her origin story without a solo film. But I don't know the script, I'm not the director, who am I to judge?
Hopefully the villain won't be Darkseid, we JUST had an alien invasion. This is how I'd do it in terms of villains...
Man of Steel - Zod's Invasion
Batman vs Superman - Lex Luthor and Batman
WW solo - Ares and Aquaman
Batman solo - Red Hood
Green Lantern solo - SInestro
Justice League - Darkseid, Yellow Lanterns, Black Adam. (work for DS)
I'm glad Zack Snyder will continue making DC movies, but WBs SERIOUSLY needs to hire some new directors unless they're okay with releasing a single movie every 2-3 years.

  I'd rather they explore Batman's origin, I mean everyone already knows it from Batman Begins but I'd have an origin story taken Directly from Year One with Brandon, Gordon and all that jazz. There are just soooo many amazing story lines they could explore and I would love to see on the big screen. Wouldn't you rather save Red Hood for latter? We don't even know if Dick is in the DCCU yet and plus there are just so many other villains to explore. Sinestro is possibly fucked cause of the first Lantern movie or maybe not but Hal Jordan defiantly is so the next logical answer is John Stewart. You know what? I'm glad people are finally taking Ben Affleck seriously as an actor and they stopped using a movie that was NOT his fault and is 11 years old. Ben Affleck is literally just dominating the Big screen and I would be honored to have him direct my favorite superhero, especially since he actually reads and loves the damn comics!

    if they ever did do a movie based on Year One, they should at least replace Carmine Falcone (cause he was already in a good movie) with a more up-to-date, badass version of The Penguin. why? because this character has better character development, is more interesting, and the Falcone's are just normal, boring mob bosses.
    but for a Solo Ben Affleck Batman film (if it's a sequel to JL), i'd love to see Hush and/or Riddler as a villain. And the only sidekick, if any, should be Nightwing.
    otherwise, i'd like to see a movie with the year one continuity (year one, long halloween, dark victory, etc) only, as i said, replacing Carmine Falcone with The Penguin (and Maroni with Black Mask). they could also take out a few side villains.

      Again, we're getting waaaayyyyy to far ahead of our selves. Hush is an awesome villain and imo one of his greatest villains. But the Hush storyline is comprised of A bunch of other villains as well and it's extremely hard to tell a 12 issue story on screen with only a 2 1/2 hour to 3 hour run time. Plus all those character in the Hush story would have no development. There's just soooooo many other story lines to cover before that and if they ever do touch on the Hush storyline then I want it done right. No drastic changes! As of Nightwing, we haven't establish if Dick is still Robin or Nightwing yet so we really just wait but I understand why we're speculating what's going to happen in the future, it's only natural.

        Court of Owls without a doubt. They're not as well know to non comic book readers and the story would get people away from all the other stories that have been told many times before, it also seems like they're going the New 52 route anyway. If we literally get the Batman from the comics, I would cry tears of joy in the Movie theater. I'd also love to see Arkham Asylum a serious house on serious earth at some point but that graphic novel is waaayy to violent so idk what they would do.

  The reason they don't have a few solo movies in between Batman vs Superman and Justice League is because they're trying to craft a different formula than Marvel's. They're trying to be different.
  There was a rumour a while back that after the Justice League movie, DC was going to use a specific formula to release their movies that is different from Marvel and was as follows: each year there would be a big budget (around $200 million) movie around early in the year (say June) and then they would release a lower budget (around $60-80 million) movie in the latter half of the year (say August). The big budget movie would be things like a WW solo, a Batfleck solo, Green Lantern solo, Aquaman solo, Man of Steel 3, Justice League 2, etc. The lower budget movie would be things like a Suicide Squad movie, a Deathstroke movie, street-level hero movies (ex: Birds of Prey).
  I think that rumoured formula I just explained would work quite well and is different enough from Marvel's that it makes DC's Cinematic Universe unique (more than it is already).

Why not leave that a secret?         What?! When did Marvel say that? That's just fan speculation. Nothing has been confirmed by Marvel, and even the Winter Soldier movie opened up more possibilities as to the plot direction involving Ultron's origin. Don't attribute online fan fiction to Marvel.

        Even if that is fan speculation you can't deny that every little bit of news Marvel has is immediately "leaked" with WB its nothing but rumors until WB actually says something, surprisingly very little ever gets "leaked" Look to settle my point of view on everything I love DC/WB & I love Marvel(not including Disney because they are a milking til the franchise is dead machine) I just love that we are all getting these films, it just upsets me when it seems like no one is having any kind of respect for WB/DC I can bet 95% of comic book fans first because readers and watchers when they sat and saw Superman and Batman on TV, not Incredible Hulk, not Captain America, but DC's golden boys and many of you have just turned on them, so now any little news you go nuts over in a bad way, but yet you give Marvel benefit of a doubt, try having that optimism directed toward DC, after all Marvel is nothing special they are as easy to mess up as any studio, I lov it all but DC was my gateway into it all

        That's fine and all, but you don't have to disparage and attack Marvel to defend DC. And yes, I can absolutely deny it; Marvel doesn't leak much more than DC does. All you've proven is that people speculate a lot. And let's not talk about milking a franchise when Marvel/Disney is making movies about comics people haven't even heard of. DC has recycled the Superman/Batman formula so many times I've lost count.
        Look, I know this is a DC centric site, but at least try to be a little objective. They simply squandered the opportunity to have multiple Justice League movies by now, because they took for granted you'd be content enough with a new version of Batman every few years. I grew up a Spiderman fan; you have no idea what it's like when all you want is to see your favorite hero in a movie, and you can't get it because of legal issues. But they came back big time and took advantage once it was all settled. That's why you see so much praise for Marvel; it's not that anybody hates DC (well, some might, but that's not the norm), the point is DC messed up and Marvel showed them how it's done. You think Marvel is nothing special? They have made 2 of the top 5 highest grossing films in history within years of the other.

        Marvel does leak more than DC, thats denial my friend, yes Disney does milk franchises and they are now doing it here. As you said 2 of their films have been broken records, the rest have been mediocre, the praise people give is like they are sucking Marvel off and it makes me sick, Thor was ok, Incredible Hulk was no better than The Hulk, it was average, Captain America was ehhh ok, Iron Man 2 was alright. Iron Man, The Avengers, Captain America 2 were excellent films and Thor 2 was above average. When I say they are milking I mean they have all these films and the connection they have is what makes people go see these films, at least the 75% non comic book readers. These films are making the money they are because its like a TV show where if you miss one episode you might miss out on something you need to know later, that is milking it because eventually people are gonna get tired of it, at leas the average movie goer Also one last thing box office numbers dont always mean its critically good, Lord of the Rings are some of the most BORING films I've ever seen and those made a shit ton of money

    They're definitely going to replace MM with Cyborg. You don't have to look at Cyborg's casting announcement to realize this. You can look at the fact that DC is trying to make their live-action adaptations of their comics "New 52 inspired". The reason they're doing this is simple: marketing. They want their comics and movies/shows to feel about the same or at least look similar. Examples of this are:
    -Superman's costume in the New 52 and in Man of Steel are quite similar and may become even more similar in BvS
    -CW's The Flash costume and Flash's New 52 costume are quite similar (the headpiece is basically exactly the same for both)
    -[rumour -->] the possibility of a new Justice League cartoon based on the New 52 from Bruce Timm (which some think is the reason he's "on a break" from his position on animated movies after TDKR).
    -DC's New Animated Universe being based off the New 52 (Flashpoint Paradox, Son of Batman, JL: War).
    There's a few other but I don't want to make my comment too long. So yes, I strongly believe Cyborg will replace Manhunter. Not only because he's easier to sell to non-comic book fans but also because he's become a fan favourite of lots of comic book fans thanks to Geoff Johns making him badass.
    P.S. I think John Stewart (played by The Rock) is going to replace Hal though.

    Yeah SNews hasn't realy taken off !
    I don't want to tell you how to manage your site ! But this place has always felt very pro DC to me ! Maybe if you just concentrate on DC properties you know make this place a real Hub for DC fans on the web !
    With this news today you will have more than enough material and characters to keep things ticking over !
    Just a thought , keep up the great work

      Seriously Chris, it's becoming harder and harder to be a DC fan on many sites. Batman-News has really become a safe haven.

    This is practically impossible but one can dream right? It would be unspeakably awesome if the website (Batman-News.com) morphed into a "Batman & The Justice League News" website. Again this is practically impossible, but it would be really cool, right? The site would cover all things Batman like it's already doing first and foremost and it would also cover everything else related to the Justice League too. Like for example: CW's Arrow and The Flash, any and all DC solo movies that will be coming out in a few years with non-Batman characters, all DC animated movies even if they're not Batman related, maybe we can throw in some comic book reviews about non-Batman stuff for good measure (like those "Break From Batman" Specials except without Marvel or any other publisher that isn't DC), etc.
    Well, I guess I'll just keep on dreaming about this.

WB seems to be aligning things pretty well: Affleck starring and directing Batman films, Snyder directing Superman and JL, Guillermo del Toro at the helm of DC's Dark Universe, Joseph Gordon Levitt starring Sandman; despite what others could say, to me it seems like they actually have a plan... and if you aks me, i don't see WB moving away anytime soon from Marvel's way in 2016, they're being just fearless.

  It's just a shame DC is only doing things halfway by keeping the TV series disconnected from the movie universe.
  Meanwhile Marvel just confirmed that everything is still connected (including the upcoming TV shows).

    the problem with marvel tv efforts (agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) is that they're keeping all the good stuff for the movies; having everything connected isn´t enough anymore; Marvel has to make its tv shows exciting or they will go down the toilet sooner rather than later; look at DC's Arrow, they already introduced Deathstroke and it looks just awesome; well, lets see how Marvel does with Daredevil on Netflix when it comes out...

      Well it's their first effort; balancing the material for a show connected to a movie series is something that hasn't been attempted before. At least it's enjoyable to see how one affects the other. AoS is slowly becoming more interesting as they get a handle on how to do that. In a way it's easier to do it the way DC is handling their TV shows, but it's not what fans want.

  I'm pretty sure Guillermo del Toro's "Dark Universe" movie fell into development hell a while back. I'm also pretty sure we got confirmation on that.

Since it hasn't started filming yet; can't have a lot do with Snyder's direction. And yes, Synder better try very hard not to screw this one up. Hopefully Warner has enough sense to a least provide him with a excellent scripts to work from.

    He is an awesome director...now lets not kid ourselves. The guy clearly sucks at writing his own scripts and his slow mow scenes are annoying as hell but since Terrio is writing for SvB and he left slow mo out of MoS..I'm seriously pumped for this.
