Robin Returns? DC Comics announces July one-shot

Since the death of Damian Wayne, the New 52 series "Batman & Robin" has gone through a variety of name changes that pair Batman with the likes of Nightwing, Two-Face, Batgirl, and even Aquaman, but this July we will see the title reinstate Robin as The Dark Knight's partner in the war against Gotham's criminals. Which Robin, however, remains a mystery.

DC Comics told LA Times' Hero Complex this morning that on July 16th they will release a one-shot epilogue to the current "Hunt for Robin" storyline. This issue called "Robin Rises: Omega" will be written by Peter J. Tomasi with art by Andy Kubert and it sounds larger-than-life with not only Ra's al Ghul involved, but the forces of Darkseid as well.

Following the release of Robin Rises: Omega #1, the regular series will return with Batman & Robin #33. Whether "Robin" is Damian Wayne, one of the many other Boy Wonder alumni, or an entirely new character awaits to be seen.

lol. Modern Batman comics are some bizarre hybrid of fantasy, science fiction, and zombie saga.

They are as far removed from the 'Death Wish'/'Dirty Harry'/'Taxi Driver' tone of the 1980's and early 1990's as Broadway musicals are from true crime books.

It's almost like the current stuff has more in common with the comics from the late 50's and early 60's where Batman fought aliens and monsters.

I can't stand Cullen. I feel he's too whiny. But honestly I don't care for Harper either. But each man has his own opinion. I'd enjoy Batman being more involved with his current family than adding more. What makes Cullen an interesting choice to you?

I want it to be Harper Row. I know she is Bluebird right now, but she could later become Robin. That is, quite frankly, my favorite scenario.

I don't understand why this story is so complicated. Ra's takes Damian, puts him in a Lazarus Pit. End of story. Why all the crazy cloning stuff? Cloning wouldn't bring back Damian, it would make a new Damian.

An interesting title; 'Robin Rises: Omega'.
As the Omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet, many literature tropes go to use Omega as an alternative to 'Last' or 'End'. As such, the title can be interpreted as either 'Robin Rises: Last' (Maybe 'For the last Time'? Or 'At Last'?; Or 'Robin Rises: End' (as in 'In the End'? Or 'The End' but then we must ask as to what)
I'm probably just nitpicking, we only have a title, and it's just as probable that DC picked that name just because they thought it would sound cool or something along those lines, but it's still fun to play with the tinfoil every now and again.
The coffin on the chest would suggest Damian, as he's a recently dead Robin (and Jason Todd is a little to old and has to much of a diverging personality to really cut it as Robin again). If that's the case then I wonder if I should be angry that I have all this Requiem titles and Batman & ____ comics that are going to be retconned in one fell swoop (not to mention the entirety of a certain Bman Inc arc)

  But then we have to ask... Why Darkseid? We already have to REALLY suspend our disbelief that Bman can beat Supes (we're talking a 50 layered plan, that involves convenience after convenience), and we're gonna put him up against the guy that Supes usually goes against in JL? (And has even lost to?)
  Can I get an honest answer as to if someone can actually believe, full-heartedly that Batman and Robin is able to take on the armies of apocalypse and the League of Assassins at once? If so than anything in Gotham that is under superhuman threat level should be just stomped by the duo with no time at all ala Superman vs common streak thugs

    I don't think that If it's indeed Darkseid, he'll come up with an army or a battle.
    Are you reading Earth 2? There's a Darkseid Brainwashed Superman, a daughter of WonderWoman also in his control and a Grim Batman that looks a lot like the one in that cover.
    So yeah, still think it's darkseid

And what if he reborns?
I'm sure Batman won't want another Robin EVER again after all that. I think he would go as far as to brainwash anything Batman related from Damian's head for him to live as a normal kid after that.

  Totally. Grant created the kid for the sole purpose to kill him off at the end of the arc. Hopefully Grant put it in writing DC can never bring Damien back once he killed him. Also, don't forget, DC introduced Carrie Kelly into the New 52. Why do that if they didn't have plans for her? Part of me hopes Dick Grayson will become Robin again. That's the legendary version. The one over 95% of the general public recognize. Done right, it could be EPIC.

  You're definately NOT the only one. While not against Batman having a kid, the whole cloning behind his back thing that went on rubs me up the wrong way no end and I've thus never warmed to him and avoid his story whenever possible.

Well, I'm guessing that Damian Wayne will be "Rising" from the dead via the Lazarus Pit. Which I'm NOT a fan of. The Lazarus Pit should only heal wounds and slow down the natural aging process. Oh well, at least Notre Damian, will be back.

Just spit balling but a Damien brought back to life by Darkside and for some reason returned to Batman only for him to find out that he was brainwashed as the ultimate double agent within the Heros of earth would Be a pretty BAD ASS payoff in the long run... Imagine .. Damien bring the WORLD to its knees for Darkside and Batman has to face the thought of killing his son to save eveything...
