'Gotham' set photos give first look at Jada Pinkett Smith's character

Just Jared has shared the first photos of Jada Pinkett Smith on the cold Gotham set in New York City. Smith will be playing Fish Mooney, who is described as a sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner. She's got the street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book. Imposing and hotheaded, she's not one to be crossed. Fish Mooney is also the boss of the young Oswald Cobblepot.

Interesting how the first thing you notice about the character is her race. I think that says more about you than it does the show.

  It's not that, with me being haitian american it is frustrating to see lack of diversity on television shows and movies (whether it be any race). So when a show/movie does have a sole black character, it often feels as though they have the character just to say "quota met"

    Oh stop it. If you don't want people to even think about skin color when it comes to a person, stop bringing up peoples skin color.
    I agree it says a whole deal about you that you pulled the race card so fast. Most people saw it and were like "Oh, that's Will Smith's wife." But only YOU and OTHER RACISTS pointed out her skin color.
    You think that just because you'rr of a minority that you're not racist. "I'm black so I can't be racist." But you're just as bad as a racist with your mindset. For example, last week, there was a lady at my work sitting in the lobby for a long period of time and she wasn't a guest and so we asked her to leave (I work at a hotel.) I've asked numerous people to leave my hotel for loitering. Stopping by to use the restroom is one thing but plugging in your laptop, making loud business phone calls, etc. is another.
    But this lady freaks out because she was black. Obviously, the only reason I asked her to leave was because she was black, right?! It couldn't possibly have been because she was loitering and breaking a rule! Of course!
    I literally didn't even think about her skin color until she mentioned it.
    You remind me of people like that and you fucking disgust me. Go to hell.

      So based on your logic I'm a racist because I want a bit more diversity in non-tolken roles. If you paid attention to what I said, you'd see that I said I didn't want quota-met roles. I'm sorry if you've had poor experiences with people calling race cards, but that I did not. The conversation that I wanted to start was one in which there is a desire for non-caucasion actors/actresses to not be type-cast to their ethnicities but to their character.

      And yet you're the one calling her a tolken black character. Which means you don't think she was hired because she's a good actress. Yup, you're the most racist one here buddy. I think Jada would be offended. I think she auditioned and got the job plain and simple. No conspiracy theory involving racism and political correctness at all.

      So now that you've seen what I've said in full context instead of just a snippet, you can now see that I am hoping that she isn't on the show to meet a status quo but she is on the because she fit's the role of the character that the WB is trying to meet.

Got to work on set today, met young Selina Kyle, she is so tiny & adorable in person!!! Had a blast, despite the cold weather, with my "girlfriend" on set, just making our own end credits blooper reel with funny liners & flirting =D Can't wait for more scenes!

  Thanks! It was pretty cool, she steals a lady's milk and then some business man's wallet. She was chatting w/ us between takes some times, very nice, I heard she was 19 but playing much younger. She also has Joker's switchblade! haha

    Your lucky... My close friend was on set for TDK, and he was invited to the wrap party at Chicago's Carnivel Banquet hall - he could only bring one other person and he chose me. I met most of the cast members and drank a lot of free booze that night, LoL! - Enjoy the rest of your time on set, and take it all in -

I've never liked Jada Smith, but she's fairly big so even if all she does is bring attention to the show then it's only a good thing.
