Filming for FOX's upcoming show Gotham is under way and today the first photos of Ben McKenzie as the young James Gordon have come online. Check out the photos in the gallery below from the Manhattan, New York set. Based on the photos, it doesn't look like Gordon has his signature mustache yet. It's the first episode, lets give him some time to grow it.

Update: We also have our first look at Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot… aka The Penguin, courtesy of Mail Online. Check out the photos in the gallery below.

    wasn't really going to expect a stache yet (what mid-to-late 20 year old has a mustache un-ironically?) but i am surprised to see him without prescription glasses. Maybe he gets some because he misses his shot in these pictures (aaaaand the fan fiction begins...)

    So if Gordon is going to be catching all kinds of pre-costume villains, could the GCPD please hire Hugo Strange as a profiler? Since it looks like this is gonna be a cop show with Batman characters, it might as well go a little more psychological and be basically Hannibal with Batman characters. Have Strange psychoanalyze the villains while driving Gordon to the dark side, and of course manipulating young Bruce.

        Didn't Strange work at the Bludhaven Academy in Kevin Smith and Paul Dini's idea?

        That was an awesome episode. To hear how a genius like Paul Dini fleshes out his stories was awesome. Smith was just along for the ride llol.

      There should be a clause that restricts it from going head to head with any DC property. It just wouldn't make sense

      No respect to source material? Just because TWO gentlemen look like pretty boys to you doesn't mean that THAT'S the reason why this show is off course. They're following a young Bruce Wayne up to the Cape & Cowl of Batman for pete sake THAT'S SOURCE MATERIAL. Be appreciative that they're even DOING a live action Batman Television Show. There hasn't been one since Adam West's Batman 1966 TV Series.

        Although I agree with some of what you're saying, I never bought the 'appreciate that they're even doing...' notion. I think that's how networks can crowbar things into shows that normally don't seem right. Arrow might be good to some, but the show is really just Batman in a different suit (initially, that was the character during his 1st appearance, but GA has evolved so much since then.)

        Agents of SHIELD is a cookie cutter series with a comic book wrapping (at least the episodes I watched.)

        Probably the best example of how that's a crappy notion is in film. Remember Catwoman? I try to forget that movie. Its easy to say "at least we got a Catwoman movie," but it really wasn't more then using a name (& a photo of Michelle Pfeiffer) in a completely different movie.

    Robin Taylor looks fantastic as the young Penguin. Love his style. You can also really get a feel for the city in those pics. Love the taxi.

      Can't read the last bit...."Hero cops slay Wayne..murderer?" Guess Joe Chill will get his justice delivered to him fast. I like the Wayne murders to go unsolved kind of like in the comics. This sets it up to have Batman solve the murder himself, which sets up some yummy drama like in the Batman: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD episode "Chill of the Night."

      I guess since they won't be showing Bruce be Batman, they figure they should get this out of the way so it's not a hanging plot thread when the show ends.

      Very excited for this show.

    Really looking forward to this.. The look of the city is actually resembling Tim Burton's Gotham more than Nolan's so far, very unexpected!!

      Unless they're planning to build some major sets; it will look like Nolans's Gotham. Especially considering they look like they are actually outside. Did any part of Burton's movies not take place on indoor sets.

    A little too much running for the first set of pictures (Gordon). Oswald Cobblepot is almost perfect, excepting the lack of horizontal and vertical challenge (ie too tall and thin).

      The third picture of Taylor makes me think, "that's Alberto Falcone right there". Maybe they'll be using a lot of composite characters. Similarly, the actress for Sarah Essen, Zabryna Guevara doesn't look like the comic book Essen, and the character's role in the story seems different. I can't figure out what character they're using as a source though. Gordon himself might use elements from other characters, also.

    Judging by that taxi and the car behind it, could this... could this actually be set in the 80s? That would be amazing. (The police car is modern but could just be real security on the set)

      Gotham has always had a "timeless" look. Tim Burton's movies can't really be pinpointed as to "when" they took place. Some stuff looks 1930's, other stuff screams 1980's, and the batmobile was pretty futuristic.

      Similar for Batman: The Animated Series. Black and White TV's and old looking cars and blimps, but still felt like it took place in the 90's.

      Christopher Nolan's version was locked into modern times with the "realistic" aesthetic.

      So it's all good. I'm sure this will take place in modern times based on Commissioner Gordon's clothes, but as you pointed out they throw in some old looking cars and they have Oswald Cobblepot wearing a bow tie and boom all of sudden we're not sure when it takes place.

    Gordon doesn't look memorable at all, his cloths are bland, he has buzzed hair cut, and his cloths are meh so he actually looks more like a throw away character. I hope his acting is great so we can see the struggle of internal affairs of the police on him and his family or are they going write them out? hope not.
