Cartoon Network releases 2014 programming schedule, 'Beware the Batman' is nowhere to be found

Cartoon Network has remained quiet about the future of Beware the Batman, which was pulled off the air last year after just eleven episodes. Even the cast was confident that the show would return early this year, but that never happened. Now, it seems like the show is officially dead.

This past week Cartoon Network released their programming schedule for the 2014-2015 season and Beware the Batman was nowhere to be found. Fans of the show can purchase the first half of season 1 on Blu-ray and DVD, and I wouldn't be surprised if the second half gets released later this year. It definitely won't be airing on Cartoon Network.

      Some of it's episodes (especially "Toxic" which is episode 6 I think) are actually on par with Batman: The Animated Series on a story level. Like I said, "Toxic" is an episode that feels like it belongs in BTAS. It's a great episode like Heart of Ice, etc. And the show would've only gotten better with each episode because it was already getting better with each episode. CN just didn't give it a chance.

in my opinion, this is better than batman the animated series, because it's continuous with a good plot and action scenes. other than that, take away the impression of "batman" then watch it. after the first three episodes. everyone is only complaining about pig and toad because that's the only episode they see before voting it off. truth is that episode and the two that followed were expository, in other words meaningless, but it contributed to introducing the characters, and as such was necessary. the creators even said the first episode was just to make a statement. don't base the show on just one episode, especially the first episode.

DARK/SOPHISTICATED animated Batman show, doesn't work on cartoonnetwork in the year 2014. Won't get the viewership and won't sell enough toys. I'll assume the CGI animation is bit too expensive, if the show isn't a smash hit.

BTB was a dark and sophisticated show for a children's cartoon and an entirely original take on the character. Using lesser known villains from the comic was something I thought fanboys would appreciate. Instead, they whined and complained that Beware wasn't a carbon copy of BTAS. It drives me bonkers defending such a great show from guys who clearly were never going to give this show a chance. I bought the Blu-Ray and the show translates even better when you can watch all the episodes in order. A serialized, adult-oriented Batman cartoon, and it gets pissed on. Unbelievable.

  Thanks for the response. I COMPLETELY agree with you. Clearly the show was going for something different. I wouldn't have tried to hold out the big guns (Joker, Two-Face, The Riddler, etc.) for so long. I think it was that, and most fans not loving the way that Batman was designed, really hurt the show. But most importantly, Cartoon Network sucks, for anybody over the age of ten.

we need a GOOD batman animated series again. like TAS was. this time follow the comics more closely. play out Jason Todd's time as a sidekick, the death in the family arc, bane breaking the bat, talia and catwoman's time triangle with bruce, Barbara's time as Batgirl and transformation into oracle. if they do these things, it'll be a hit and will last much more than 1 season. they can end the show with the mantle being passed on to dick and damian, as the new batman and robin. then maybe that could spinoff into another show. Ben 10 has has 4 freaking series! IT HAD 3 SEQUELS! Maybe Man of Action can pull off a respectable, gritty Batman series.

CN won't have any serious TV shows right now. The reason why Ben 10 is so successful is that it's adaptable and sells toys. In a time of serious action for CN, it was gritty and dark. Now, when CN won't have dark action shows, it's a stupid, kiddish comedy. Even if you try a close-to-comics Batman show, CN will yank it off the air for the sole reason that it isn't a stupid comedy.

That would be so dark. This show wasn't that dark but it still got pulled off the air. A show like that that is as dark as the comics wouldn't even get green lit, I think. Batgirl being shot by Joker in the spine, Joker beating Jason to death with a crowbar, Bane brutally breaking Batman's back, etc. would be way too dark for modern CN, They would hate it an cancel it. Maybe 10-15 years ago a show like that would be a smash-hit like BTAS but not in the present day. CN wants shows like Ben 10 because they easily sell toys and they're very family-friendly and light-hearted and with barely any plot whatsoever. That's why Teen Titans Go! is still around and not Young Justice.

I'll admit, I was initially put off by the animation style and the show did start off slow. However, the show got much better after the 3rd or 4th episode, and the cgi grew on me. Let's face it, Batman has been done to death for many years, and it was good to see a fresh take on the character. I also loved that they played up his detective skills, and featured a cast of unfamiliar villains. I was hopeful for its return, but I guess that's not happening.

"I've Got Batman in My Basement" where Batman stumbles into a kid's room and has to be defended from the Penguin by a couple of kids? Yeah. TAS was perfect.
    It's time for people to take TAS down off the pedestal they have placed it on. It's a good show. It's not perfect. Bruce Timm is not a god.

    you're both right and wrong. CN targeted this towards kids, that's why it's a saturday morning show. however, the creators of the show thought differently. they weren't aiming for an audience age group, they were aiming for an audience. and this would have been a great series if it were aired long enough and aired during a different time ie before young justice ended.

look the show was ok, it wasn't as great as other batman series the villians were doctor pig and mister toad, mr polka dot, anarchy, humpty dumpty, magpie and silver monkey the only good villians were Ra's al Ghul and Lady Shiva all of the other are not known to most of the viewers and they were going to keep them as they were originally created they were villians from the Batman of the 60's saddly nowadays that doesn't work and if you're going to have those kind of lame villians make them as arkham city presented Calendar Man or Victor Szaas, plus Katana althought is a one of Batman's alies she's not that popular among fans and Alfred looked like Lex Luthor and is not a bad thing the problem is that we're acostumed to see the badass alfrend with some hair and a little moustache

I gave up on CN after the Young Justice magical cancellation. It was also sad how the SBFFs didn't get more shorts. Those clips were awesome. I'll never forget Super girl giving Superman a wedgie.

Some of you guys are really sad. This was a great Batman show, but you choose to be narrow-minded and can't accept the no major villains policy. People like you aren't real fans of Batman, because you just want to see the same thing over and over again. Others know that Batman is bigger and can do other things besides face the Joker in every story. You're not Batman fans. You just like the villains, or seeing one particular take over and over again. It's reminiscent of the fanboys that can't enjoy anything Batman unless Kevin Conroy is the voice. So when Kevin Conroy is gone, I guess Batman will die with him. Screw the 75 years of history. Take away one voice actor or a few big villains, and Batman is nothing. And all this time I thought Batman himself was a very interesting character.

Hey, I love the Nolan movies, but I'll never say Nolan did everything perfect. Batman is open to interpretation, as long as you keep certain core elements in place. Batman on film can go on without Nolan, just as Batman on TV can go on without TAS.

    Actually, that's not entirely true. If you look at the history of Batman, each movie is essentially an era of Batman.
    Batman represented his initial roots (without the guns)
    Batman Returns represented the 40s version
    Batman Forever is Batman in the 50s
    Batman & Robin is the 60s
    Nolan's trilogy is essentially the 70s to 90s.
    I can connect more storylines & plot points in Nolan's trilogy than I can in the prior 4 movies. That doesn't mean the 90s movies don't share the feel of the source material.
    You can like & prefer whatever movie or decade of characterization you like, but you can't debunk any of the movies as not being 'true to the comics.' I am not a fan of the 60s version, but I can't say 'Batman & Robin isn't less true to the comics.'

So, because I like Kevin Conroy voicing Batman, like classic Batman villains, liked Batman: TAS through JL:U, but didn't like this series' animation, version of Batman (or Alfred), then I'm not a real Batman fan?!
I didn't like the 60s version, Batman & Robin, Batman: Brave & the Bold, or Morrison's run, so does that means I'm not a real fan either? It's all or nothing?
I don't think anyone has the right to question or debunk someone else's validity or level of fandom because of a differing tastes.
I have never spoken ill of the series, but just didn't find it entertaining or worth my time in general. The voice cast, villains, allies were greatly overshadowed by my lack of interest in the animation style & how Batman was portrayed.

      I would strongly recommend if you get the chance to watch a few more episodes. Honestly, episode 1 was probably the weakest. It really seemed to get building around episode 4, and then it just kept going through episode 13. The continuity of the show impressed me. When it was all done, there were events in episode 13 that tied back to the first episode. All the episodes were connected, which gave it a feeling that there were consequences to everything.

      I watched some episode where they were trapped in the Wayne Enterprises building. The animation is really the hardest thing for me to deal with...its just not for me.
      The show reminds of Arrow, which reminds me more of Batman then Oliver Queen. Its like a copy of a copy. The portrayal of Alfred is the character that seems the most off to me.
      I'll take your word that's its an impressive show, though.

  How come you didn't like the way Batman was portrayed? He was a focused detective. He knew everything that was going on, even when it seemed like he was being an idiot. He reminded me of the Grant Morrison "Bat-God" but not as crazy.

    The episode I watched had him a little too reckless. It's been months since I saw the episode (I believe he got trapped in the Wayne Enterprises building), but I recall thinking it seemed out of character.
    Plus, I prefer Alfred stay in the background rather then assisting with field work because of his MI6 background.
    Morrison's run on the character ended my run of collecting the title for decades. His approach was not one I enjoyed. Snyder's stuff has brought me back either.
    The animation style was the biggest hurdle for me to get over.

I think the show had great potential and as much as I missed his other enemies let's at least admit it was nice to have his other enemies get the chance to have a moment in the spotlight especially the voice acting I mean all the people they chose were not exactly fan favorites so this show got the chance to make it's own mark in Batman tv history with a different type of cast as well all sorts of villains that are interesting but they just didn't have the right story to bring them into more recognition until Beware The Batman. The CGI character designs have a new sleek modern take to old characters and made them very interesting to see and look at on tv. I wish it hadn't been so harshly reviewed and people could have just enjoyed it as it was for what it was. A completely different type of Batman show altogether. Which yes was needed

The show was good. To all those saying it got canceled because they didn't use recognizable villains - you're wrong. That had nothing to do with it. The show was too intelligent for the modern Cartoon Network. They now prefer to cater to small children and stoners. Everyone else gets left out in the cold. CN execs didn't think it had a future on the network not because it was a bad show, but because it was too highbrow. As for popular rouges, the producers had already said they would start bringing in classic villains like Joker and Riddler later on and Ra's Al Ghul was already being set up as the "big bad" (to borrow a Whedon phrase) before Cartoon Network yanked it. A Manbat episode had already been recorded as well. At least we'll get to see the final 13 on DVD eventually since they've already been made.

  Don't be dense. Obviously they wouldn't say that and he's stating his opinion, but it is one that makes sense since they're leaving mindless entertainment like Teen Titans Go! on the air.
  Say what you want, but people expected Beware the Batman to be like TTG! and a lot of people were surprised at the dark tone. Characters had arcs, actions had consequences, people died or got their youth taken from them.
  It was a good show and had a lot of potential. I think Cartoon Network owes an explanation to the fans.
  I heard it had an average viewing of 1.3 million viewers which I think is a lot of people to disappoint if you ask me. Sure they were going more for 1.7 million, but would they really yank the show for being short 400,000 viewings? Seems like they'd only get more viewers the longer the show went on and got word of mouth.
  I also heard they weren't selling a lot of toys. I've looked on Amazon and I found ONE Beware the Batman toy and it was just a figure of Batman. Where's Katana? Alfred? The batmobile? I would have bought the figures if they were cool.
  I just don't get it. I've supported the show the best I can. I've told others about it on twitter. I've bought the entire comic book run. Me and my friends would watch it every week - all guys over 23. I would TiVo it and watch it with my niece.
  It's a real shame it's going to be cancelled.

    The comment seemed more matter of factly then an opinion. It's why I thought there was something that directly implied it.
    The merchandise market is where shows like this really prove profitable. It's why shows like Justice League & Teen Titans Go have limited runs. Its cheaper to air reruns then make new episodes. Even the reruns will help sell the merchandise without any new expenses.
    Can 400,000 make a difference? Sure. Superman Returns & Man of Steel made a lot of money...a lot. The studio considers these okay profit wise. It's why there was no follow up to Superman Returns & why Batman, Wonder Woman, & whomever else are being crowbarred into the Man of Steel sequel.
    I understand you feel scorned, but does the network really 'owe' you an explanation? It's always nice when there is one, but I'd be surprise if they ever give one.

That's a damn shame. My daughter and I really liked that show. I personally loved the look of the show and I thought the voice acting was pretty darn good. I just don't get it. I thought for sure they had a hit on their hands. I wonder if it was the day and time that killed it?

After Young Justice and Green Lantern got cancelled "because girls decreased the toy ratings by knowing the shows existed", who expected anything other than a flash-animated piece of trash that relies on jokes about burgers being too spicy and spitting snot bubbles to be the only thing CN would air from Warner Bros. Animation? "DC Nation" is repeats of a comedy show with bumpers claiming it is "epic" and "special". What really P155es me off is that they think it's so good.

Batman deserves better than that !
Look at the quality, cheapest thing I've ever seen, Beast Machines (from 1999) was better.

It's not a terrible show, I actually like it better than I Hightower I would, I just can't get over the changes to Alfred. That ruins it for me.

For those people blaming the show itself for it not being on the air....DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT.

All the fault and all the blame goes to the Cartoon Network.

If this show was on FOX or the CW, we probably would get 5 seasons of it perhaps more. I just can't understand why DC Animated HAS TO be on the Cartoon Network? Why can't it be on Prime Time, like the SImpsons or Family Guy? It can work!
