Did Jesse Eisenberg contribute to the 'Batman vs. Superman' delay?

When Batman vs. Superman got delayed until May 2016, the official reason given was so that Zack Snyder and his crew could have more time to "realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story". There's probably a lot of truth to that, considering the rumors that Chris Terrio is re-writing a lot of David Goyer's story. However, Man of Steel Fanpage has come up with another reason why Batman vs. Superman was delayed, and it certainly makes sense.

Jesse Eisenberg, the newly cast Lex Luthor, just began a five week shoot on a new movie titled The End of the Tour. Ironically, he's shooting that movie in Grand Rapids, MI... which is just a couple of hours away from Detroit, where a majority of Batman vs. Superman will be shot. While I'm sure it's not the only reason for the delay, the availability of the main villain would definitely throw a wrench into production, and give everyone the time needed to get the story right.

This is kind of good news. If true, it shows that they were willing to change the schedule just to make sure they could have Jesse as Luthor.

They might need more time to figure out the whole DC canon since they're doing many individual superheroes and entire team franchises for the movies of DC. This should be Jesse Eisenberg's biggest role and before that it was Social Network. He'll have a lot of movies with DC and so he will want to get this role pegged.

whatever the cause for the delay is i hope it benefits the film overall; in regards to the movie script, after all the creativity doors that marvel is opening with GoTG and the plethora of characters and universes DC owns, i think batman/superman writers can let loose their imagination and make something really impressive.

Doubtful

I've heard rumors of paradise island throwing a wrench in the mix.

I think its ultimatly a combination of them fleshing out the script production decsions and even weather. I wonder if they anticipated having a massive amount of snow and ice in the inital planing phase.

Seriously though, I'd imagine he will build himself up a bit. I'd love to see a more manly, beefy and self-confident Lex this time around. As a bald man, I'll be pissed off if he's insecure about his baldness the way they made Gene Hackman's interpretation seem.

I like the business side of things. For example, I'd love to know when Warner Bros. told Zack Snyder that Batman needed to be in his next Superman movie. I don't think that was always the plan as he was making Man of Steel.

    I think it happened after the Avengers. MoS does look like a movie that was originally plotted in the same vein as Nolan's Batman series, where other heroes don't exist in the same world. WB was probably skeptical about Marvel's Avengers initiative until they saw the dollar signs.

      I dunno. They were all pretty public from very early on that MoS was the kicking off point for the greater DC universe. And with all the tossed references to Bruce Wayne, Batman, Booster Gold, Supergirl, STAR Labs, etc it doesn't seem nearly as self contained as Nolan's Batman.

      Most of the references to characters outside the Superman world are made as letterings and signs during CGI scenes, which is done in the late stages of movie production. If I'd have seen more nods on the script itself or as artifacts rather than just tacked on blips on the screen, maybe I'd be more inclined to think that they really intended to tie the DC universe together from the get go.

      I already know that. What I'm saying is that it was a late decision by WB. MoS didn't start off production with the goal of building the DC universe, but it did in the end as plans changed.

    It seemed like a desperate move by WB to put in their cash cow king Batman into the movie without fully developing Snyder's Superman (in order to gain more attention). I think WB was just worried about the movie not coming close to $1B and how many "negative" reviews MoS received (even though it was the Superman movie I certainly was waiting for).

      that's what it seems like to fans who think there is only 1 way to make a cinematic universe. SInce when is anything short 1 billion a failure for DC? MOS grossed more than ALL of Marvel's Phase 1 (Avengers excluded) and is grossing more than Marvel's Phase 2 (IM3 excluded) I think they're doing okay. MOS is one of those movies everyone hates but they know deep down that it was a badass film.
      They only nitpick because it's the 1st movie of DC's universe to compete with Marvel so no surprise it gets mauled heavily by people (blindly at that) How are they gaining more attention?? MOS itself was more talked about than any other CBM that year off the movie itself. Before Batman was announced in the sequel. Zod's death was more publicized than IM3's fake Mandarin. MOS was the lone DC movie against all the other Marvel movies and imo it was miles ahead of the others but people wont admit it.
      Batman is going to be with Superman eventually so it didnt matter how you put him into the universe. This movie (depending if it's a full-on Justice League movie) can perfectly continue the Superman story while introducing Batman in this new universe which is faster and more efficient than telling it through his own movie...AGAIN. SAve that for after JL.
      I cant belive people think it's only 1 way to build a universe just because Marvel did it one way. We let Marvel build theres up for 5 YEARS and no one bats an eye. DC is one movie in and strating the sequel and now everyone is a film director and a film production critic. smh

      Nobody is complaining about Marvel because they're doing it right. Or at least doing what their audience wants, instead of winging it then trying to convince people of what they SHOULD want. Marvel's way was natural; you knew the team up was gonna happen, but there was a story on the way there. They didn't just do Ironman and for the sequel say "Hey! Here's Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Hulk and Black Widow...Enjoy!"

      Again...there's more than 1 way to do a cinematic universe. You see jumbled hot mess, I see introducing these characters as sort of a reaction to the events of MOS then eventually banding together to form Justice League or something like that. Thats a story right there. The way Marvel did it was great and The Avengers in 2012 capped off their hard work but that doesn't mean DC has to follow that same blueprint.
      THey have a story to tell also it just isnt in the same procedure as Marvel. Why not reboot Superman, then introduce Bats & WW in the rest of the universe? Instead of waiting for the teamup film to see everyone? DC gets so much hate because they didnt do it the "right" way when it's the ONLY way fans have seen a cinematic universe built. Close-mindedness is a very common trait amongst these people.

      I still don't see WB wanting to introduce Batman and WW into 'BvS' as part of their "plan" rather than overreaction to the $$$ compared to Marvel. Not saying there is only ONE way to create a cinematic universe (i.e. Marvel)...WB seems to be reacting more than actually planning. Were they eventually going to create this universe? Most likely considering all the Easter eggs that Zack Snyder put in MoS. However WB is seems to be worried about the money aspect therefore they insert their cash cow, Batman fairly early.

I just think there's so many stories they could tell about each of these characters on their own, but by rushing them together on one film, they're shortchanging us fans.

      I don't disagree with anything that you said. But again it was WB's call and throughout the whole "process" it didn't seem like there was a set plan at all...just sort of going with the wind (also worrying about $$$). Not saying you're wrong but WB certainly can have improvements.

      Considering the missteps WB has taken with the DC feature films and even tv lately, you can understand why they would be a bit gun shy. Think about it. After the Burton Bats flix, there was not a successful DC movie until Nolan's Bats and even the first one people were not too sure about until it hit the theatres. Then Green Lantern bombs, they cant get WW tv show to even get to the small screen.
      As soon as I saw the announcement of Supes Vs Bats movie, I immediately expected them to go the route they are. Buddy movie, then JL, then branch out to solo films for various characters: WW, Flash, Bats, Supes. Then back together for JL2.
      If this plan works, who cares why they did it?

    The word on the street is that Batman being in the movie was a last minute decision by Warner Bros, because they thought that Man of Steel was going to make $1 billion. It "only" made $668 million.

  I concur. I'm actually opposed to Batman in the movie. Yeah his last trilogy made billions, but give Man of Steel a chance. Casting Batman with a bigger star really steps on the Cavill. I'd like to see at least one more Supes movie to flesh out the character before another hero appears.
  Adding Wonder Woman to the movie just adds insult to injury.

The result might be big box office in the beginning but also loss of respect and credibility from people like me that will hurt the franchise in the long run. If this is true and they delayed the movie because of Jesse Eisenberg then they must have really seen something in him. To pick him over other obviously .."better suited" lets just say, actors and they also delayed the film then believe me when i say that I am freaken excited as hell to see what this guy has to bring to the role. Regardless of what people think, one thing is for sure...this guy is definitely a good actor.

Eisenberg will sucks as Luthor. Assfleck will sucks as Batman. Hack Znyder completely ruined Superman... oh, no Superman - Murderman. And now Znyder destroyed Batman and his franchise. BvS is already doomed. Man of Steel was a shit, casting for this movie totally sucks and Hack Znyder is a terrible director. R.I.P. Batman, Superman and DC Cinematic Universe.

Your opinion is your opinion. Even though I don't agree with your opinion, it'd be cool to see how you drew your conclusions.
Also, Zod's death in Man of Steel was 'suicide by cop,' not murder. Kent would've never been convicted of murder. Manslaughter, possibly, but not murder. You need to establish initial intent for murder.
And besides Superman 2, Kent has taken lives in the comics since at least the Byrne relaunch following Crisis.

Lol, it would be funny to see Batman strike terror into Lex Luthor but it would be unrealistic for Lex to be afraid of Batman if this new version of Lex is as badass as he is in the comics.

Snyder is a Miller fanatic, so I'm sure a version of this scene will be in the movie. The line "Stiking terror... best part of the job" could very well become the new Batman catchphrase, if Affleck has the right delivery.

From what I heard I hope they're not copying a Mexican/white wash Mexican gangster or Edward Norton's Fight Club thing which would both be unoriginal for this. I kind of had a vision of his crime lifestyle from the description they gave and it could possibly be good. He should have grown up rich so if he got into crime it's because his non-Mexican rich family who made it on their own was also into crime too through the century in inheritance while they're also financially well off and big into business. His family's big principal is how they're really good at to where they're self made people so while they have alot and enjoy alot they're not spoiled and they don't have those types of weaknesses. That's kind of like Citizen Kane and Andrew Carnegie. Growing up Lex Luthor would be extremely intelligent but he got into crime too as apart of having fun. He took crime to the same pride as he does everything else, but is a major intellectual. He was an intellectual at crime that came up with ideas to do with his creative intellectualism. He took his intellectualism into crime, but also plays the crime game with great pride. The actor is Jewish so don't try to turn him Mexican. Lex Luthor tends to be lavish and spend lots of money on things to show his great pride in everything. It just represents his intellectualism and his path for self gain to have everything and all of the power.

If Batman catches Lex Luthor when Lex Luthor doesn't have any special suits or weapons Batman can beat Lex Luthor down brutally like a cop even though it's not necessary. Batman copies this from the cops he works with even when he's not interrogating. Batman does this to Lex Luthor outside of interrogation like a cop after Batman catches Lex Luthor and finds out it was Lex Luthor doing what crime it was against Superman and himself. This makes Lex Luthor angry if they send Lex Luthor to prison temporarily. I don't know if he'd go to prison inbetween trial. Lex Luthor has rich lawyers and is able to get out of anything without any charges like OJ Simpson. Lex Luthor has a whole team help him get out of everything legally. Lex Luthor also plans to run for USA president so he doesn't want to ruin his status which is also why he has his rich lawyers. Lex Luthor keeps his reputation as the illustrious genius business man who's offered a great scientific impact to the world. Lex Luthor also causes a lot of pollution and harms the environment with his business Lexcorp.

I think the delay is in advantage of the film. Script wise, they need to nail this. I have no doubt, especially with the delay, that this is going to be a huge visual treat. Snyder has a very good eye for that. Hope they can get more WETA this time around although, I hope it's less VFX filled than MOS.

The script is FINISHED people! If they're going to be filming in Detroit, Michigan, they are probably waiting for the weather to WARM UP! It's cold as heck out there right now. Why not wait to the summer? Eisenberg's schedule is a non-issue, actors work on multiple movies all the time. Look at workaholics like Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Morgan Freeman (I mean, Samuel L. Jackson).

At least we know that they're pushing to make a good movie no matter what, even if that means delaying it a bit. I assume there's a lot of detail in this film because of all the heroes and villains.
