First details on Commissioner Gordon TV series 'Gotham'?

on First details on Commissioner Gordon TV series 'Gotham'?

In September it was announced that a new Warner Bros. TV series titled Gotham would be coming to the FOX network. Gotham will tell the origin stories of James Gordon and Gotham City's most popular villains. Gordon is still only a detective in the TV series and hasn't met Batman yet. In fact, Batman will not be part of the show at all.

Now we may have the first details about the upcoming television show. According to Bleeding Cool, "the pilot script for GOTHAM has Detective Jim Gordon trying to solve a very famous double homicide". It sounds like the young Gordon could be investigating the deaths of Bruce Wayne's parents, if the report turns out to be accurate.

No word yet on when the show will begin filming or who will play Gordon, but stay tuned to Batman News for all the latest!

    I believe that if this is done properly, it could be very interesting. There´s plenty of story archs that can be represented, and Gordon is a wonderful character. I think that having Gordon fighting not only the criminals, but also the corruption inside GCPD from the core could make a quite compelling show.

      Yep... and from Arkham Origins I learned Commissioner Loeb was a corrupted one so... as Gordon's boss? it should make the whole "Internal Affairs" issue really convincing, involving Dent as the D.A. etc.

            I'll definitely do that. Is it safe to say the movie didn't do justice to the comic book? I ask because I already saw the movie and I didn't like it 100%.

            It´s debatable. I really enjoyed the animated movie because it sticks to the comic. But the comic... It is a fine piece of comic art. By the time it came out, it opened the door for a more mature storytelling. After all these years, it still has a depth which was characteristic of Frank Miller at that time, and Mazzuchelli did a wonderful job with the visuals. My best advice is to seat and enjoy the ride.

      Agreed. Plus there's more than enough smaller-named members of the Rogue Gallery that can be featured.

    Well if done withing those lines the pilot has a lot of potential, it all depends on the quality of the show meaning good actors, the right tone, good production values...

    If this was on HBO or AMC I could get excited ! But the truth is ComicBook t.v shows have been handled so BADLY ( Smallville , Arrow , Agents of Shield ) I have little faith !

    As cool as this would be for a few episodes, there is no way to develop a meaningful show that can last more than a season... This isn't the early days of Batman, which in lieu of Smallville might be reasonably exciting, its the early days of his friend. What's the point of watching? After 8 seasons we get one silhouette of Batman in the final episode? The pilot sounds dope, I'll tune in, but it seems like this show has a built in self-destruct mechanism.

      Never read Gotham Central? There are 10 seasons worth of stories they could adapt from that.

        Many involve Batman and his rogues gallery in the background. I feel that this show can't last longer than a season or two without having a Gotham with a Batman. That's what makes this show exciting. Otherwise it's just another cop show.

          I can't think of more than 2 or 3 GC stories that featured Batman to the point that he couldn't be written out. And the people making the show have already said they plan on using some of the rogue's gallery in the show.

          Good writing, good cast, good show, that's all that matters. There's plenty of people who care about characters like Gordon, Montoya, Bullock, etc who would be willing to watch a show about them.

            thats the problem isn't it? Gordon cant solve these crimes or why does Gotham even need a Batman? even if they use his lesser rogues. in Gotham Central (haven't read it but in my opinion) Gotham is at a point where it can handle itself majority of the corrupt was taken out thanks to Batman, the cops are familiar with these criminals having cross paths with them before, after Batman captured them

      I think he's too old. Gordon will need to be in his late 20s/early 30s.

    Problem is, I can only see Gary Oldman as Gordon now. He embodied James absolutely perfectly.

    The problem is only hardcore comic fans will turn out for this series. Without Batman, this is just another procedural to the general audience.

      Yes, and if television has taught me anything it's that the GA hates well written procedurals.

      I think this argument that people won't watch a Batman related show without Batman is completely debunked by the fact that Agents of Shield is still on the air. That too is a superhero related show without a single superhero. It's just a generic action/spy show. There's no Iron Man, there's no Hulk, but people still watch it because it's in that world. And it's a really bad show with zero interesting characters, terrible writing and no budget to speak of...but it's in that universe so millions of people watch it anyway.

      Also, I'd say these mash up shows are all the rage right now. You take a police show and make all the criminals monsters and it's a hit. You take a soap opera and have the people be vampires and it's a hit. I think if you make a cop show set in a comic book world it's going to be a hit.

    I would like this idea only if this is connected to the universe of Man of Steel. It's too bad Arrow is not,

      Even though the first season of Arrow was in the flavor of the Nolan movies (realistic, no super powers), they are changing that this season thanks to outpouring of fan requests. We are going to see the Flash(Berry Allen) with superpowers by the end of the season. Same character and actor will be getting his own show and (as far as I've heard up to this point) it will be after the pilot airs. So Arrow is turning a corner.

        I'm kinda confused right now, but if it's when he's younger and investigating Bruce's parents killed thing wouldn't there be no villains? I mean, of course there will be mobsters and all of that stuff but I mean, people like Joker, Scarecrow, Ivy, Harley will be in it? I've been waiting for a Batman TV series for a long time now and was super excited to hear this until I heard it was before Bruce became Batman... I just really wanna see my favorite villains. Lol
