Last night at the NYCC Batman: Arkham Origins panel, Troy Baker decided to silence some of his critics by reciting one of the Joker's monologues from "The Killing Joke". I don't know about you, but if Mark Hamill truly is done with the character, I think we have our new Joker! I've been impressed by what I've heard from Baker in all of the Batman: Arkham Origins videos, and his monologue from last night was just icing on the cake. We'll be able to hear much more of Troy Baker's Joker when Batman: Arkham Origins is released on October 25th. Check out the video (the monologue starts at the 2:10 mark) and let me know what you think in the comments below.

    Guys, let's say... Not saying it will, but if he actually got to PLAY the Joker in the future, what do you think?

    He's slim... He's got the voice... Who knows, right?!

      Can he act though? I'm not sure he's been in a lot of movies. Voice actors and film actors are very different.

        He's acting career has been almost exclusively voice acting.

        I disagree. Acting is acting. In the old days of video games, maybe. But in today's video games where the voice actors are also doing the motion capture? Look at The Last of Us. Troy Baker put on an award worthy performance as Joel and it was all him. Every moment, every facial expression, every word, it was all taken from him.

          Just checked it out, I guess you're right. He's actually very good, though a bit exaggerated I find (Obviously to capture the expressions and actions), I can totally see him acting in a film. I'm not sure if his Joker or even if Hamill was suitable, would fit in a film. It might just be me, but I think it'd look a bit too goofy in live action. Unless the Batman films go for a much more comic booky take, though I don't see that happening.

            Yeah. I thought it came off kinda weird when they used Hamill and Conroy in the Birds of Prey TV series. But people have often wanted Hamill's version in a movie, well, here's a guy that can do it and fits the role physically, not as doughy and old as Hamill. haha

          i used to be a producer in a professional voice-acting studio. many of our best talent were amazing behind the cartoon but couldn't act for tv or on stage at all (and visa versa). sorry, but it's a completely different set of skills.

          i don't know baker at all and maybe he's got the chops for both, but just because you're good in one doesn't automatically mean your good in both and even then, often someone with a spectacular voice isn't physically right for their part.

          etc., blah blah.

    It was amazing but there was a LOT of Mark Hamill in there. That's not a bad thing at all. Mark definitely left his mark on that character, but I thought the Joker in Under the Red Hood was pretty good without sounding too much like Hamill. Baker's good, though, and it makes me look forward even more to the release.

      Baker stated in another interview that he's intentionally trying to sound like a younger version of Mark Hamill's Joker. Since, after all, that's the role he's playing in Arkham Origins. I agree with you, it's definitely not a bad thing!

      And let's not forget that Baker was cast in Arkham Origins to be a younger version of the Joker we saw in both of Rocksteady's Arkham titles. So for chronology's/continuity's sake, I'm happy he chose to channel Hamill! :]

    He's no Mark, but he will do if we can't get the real Joker back. Troy does have a good young Joker voice carved out! Im looking forward to hearing more of it on October 25th!

      too pretty to be joker ~ they would have to seriously ugly him up for it to fly.

      last thing we need is another villain for fangirls to get all weird and slashy about (as if they don't already ~ but a pretty-boy would definitely make it worse).

    His first Joker laugh was spot on, but that last laugh was a bit meh. But other than that, it was incredible. I'm sold. WE WANT MORE!!

      After he pretty much admitted his "not going to play the Joker anymore" thing was just a ploy to get more money I'd REALLY like to see what he thinks about it. haha

      joker was "goofy uncle, batsy-watsy" for almost seventy years before ledger came along. i think there's plenty of room in the batverse for both interpretations.

          really? i could count on two hands the number of stories/arcs in the comic books in which he wasn't (even grant morrison waffled back and forth on his personality). and many of those will turn up elseworlds or other non-continuity pieces.
          which is perfectly fine. there's nothing wrong with mixing it up. he'd prefer it multiple choice himself anyway.

      It's a prequel to the other games. They can't change Joker to something NOT like the Joker in the first two games. That wouldn't make much sense.

    I was never worried about Troy doing the voice of the joker I knew he was going to do a good job. I wasn't worried with Christopher Drake. I am however worried about the storyline and Roger Craig Smith. RCS sounds like Chris from Resident Evil in everything I heard. I hope the storyline ends or has a connection to Arkham Asylum since the whole game series revolves around that. 11 MORE DAYS!!

      I don't think his voice is very much like Conroy, though there are signs of it at times. I still enjoy it though, different but great if you ask me.

    Damn fine imitation of Mark Hamill's Joker, nothing groundbreaking but IF they ever decided to do The Killing Joke and IF Mark Hamill were to refuse it, they have a backup.

    I don't like Troy Baker at all. Mark Hamill is the ultimate Joker and nobody can measure up to his standards. I really don't understand how anybody could actually support Troy Baker in this role. I want Mark Hamill back!!!
