Last weekend Josh Brolin revealed that he was in talks to play Batman in Batman vs. Superman before Ben Affleck got the role. Intrigued by that news, MTV's Josh Horowitz decided to ask Brolin more about it in a new interview. He admitted that he began thinking about the role, and what director Zack Snyder was going to do with an older, wiser version of Batman. Brolin said he really liked the idea and thought it was an interesting take on the character. He then went on  to defend Ben Affleck, who has been receiving a lot of criticism online and in the media:

Ben's gotten so much flack from this, I actually got angry — for him, not at him. Everybody else was angry at him. Now I'm curious to see what he does. How are you going to bring up a movie that Ben did 10 or 15 years ago and try and [criticize his talent]? I mean, come on. The guy's matured and grown and look at the work he's doing now. I'm going to defend him literally until the death.

    To be quite honest, I was pulling for Brolin to get the part as well. I think he would have made an awesome Batman/Bruce Wayne. With that said, I am extremely happy with Affleck being cast. It is absolutely not fair to bring up Daredevil. I mean, that's like saying I haven't gotten any better/wiser at my job. If you aren't a better, more wise person than you were 10 years ago, then you have something wrong with you. #IBelieveinBatfleck

      I don't mind bringing up Daredevil. The Director's Cut was great.

    Good for Brolin for defending Affleck. He's right, of course. We should wait and see what Affleck brings to the table before actually criticizing him.

    I have to say, even though I am a Ben supporter and think he will do a great job, this guy looks like an older bad ass Bruce Wayne in this interview. He has the rugged and tough good looks and I can easily see him as both a titan of industry and someone who can beat the shit out of criminals at night. He may have been the best choice, but I still have faith in Batfleck.

      Exactly my thought, Josh Brolin would've been perfect, even if I'm rooting for Batfleck as well. Though, since Affleck is cast, I have to believe there's more to the contract than just being Batman. I mean, you've got a brilliant director and writer right there, I think he'll end up directing himself in his own Batman films. If someone gave me the choice to choose between Affleck and Brolin, Brolin hands down. But if it's Affleck & directing or Brolin, I'd have to choose Affleck.

    I think Brolin should not worry about Affleck's backlash for now on, when the american adaptation of the Futubasha's Oldboy came, he have to worry about his own haters (BTW, i like what i seen in the trailer, and yours?)

    It is refreshing to see other actors speaking up against the unfairness of the harsh treatment Ben Affleck was and still is getting. Just because Brolin is an actor doesn't mean he has to care about another actor or put any support out there. He was angry FOR Ben Affleck, which actually did surprise me. As the days go by, I am becoming more comfortable with the idea of Ben as Batman. I just saw Hollywoodland the other day and he was great in it. Here's to an awesome Man of Steel 2! And as others have pointed out, my main concern isn't Ben Affleck, but is the script Goyer is going to be doing and Snyder's directing...

    I think both Brolin and Affleck make a terrible Bruce Wayne/Batman. Both have been in failed super hero films and are both are favorites of Warner Brothers. Is there any wonder that Brolin would defend Affleck? Let's face it, there is no enthusiasm for Affleck. No matter what WB or Zack Snyder does, when people see him on film they will see Ben Affleck NOT Batman or Bruce Wayne. The baggage he brings to the role is something he can't escape.

      Chris Evans murdered the part in The fantastic four movies but was excellent as Captain America so Affleck deserves a chance too.

        I disagree! I thought Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis were the only good things about the Fantastic Four movies. They had pretty good chemistry together. Plus Chris Evans never went on and on about how he did not enjoy the experience of being a superhero. He never vowed not to be one again nor did he ever state that wearing a superhero costume "humiliated" him. Affleck doing ALL of those things.

            In 2009, he was saying the same thing...so four years ago he had still not changed his mind. Plus if you were hiring five people for any job and one of them said to you that they had a similar job once and they hated it and promised never to get back in that field. THAT is the person you would hire, over equal and more talented people?

        Yeah I know it was fake , it was just the only image of Afflek in a suit I could find !

        Yeah another suit to over anylise over and over again LOL my take is Keatons suit was Gothic , Bales suits were more practical ( except BB wich as you know is my favourite suit ) so I am looking for a more Operatic suit this time ! I realy want to see the EPIC Batman silhouette being utilised this time !

          Yeah, yeah, and i think the one thing we shouldn't be worried about, is the visual aspect of the film. Snyder maybe not the most talented director, but he is good in film aesthetics.

    I definitely can see Brolin as a psychopathic version of Batman.

    Let's wait and see. Maybe is the big chance for Affleck to disappear in the role. I want to look at him and see the goddamn Batman, not Affleck. You know what i'm saying? LOL

    OF COURSE HE HAS TO DEFEND HIM, AS COMRADES (ACTORS), THEY DO HAVE CODES, AND MUST HELP EACH OTHER, BUT WHAT HE CANNOT TELL THE PRESS IS THAT HE REALLY KNOWS AFFLECK WILL RUIN, NOT JUST BATMAN, BUT THE SUPERMAN SEQUEL ITSELF.     Before I get railed for this I would like to preface that I would've wanted to see Fassbender play Batman but being Magneto and Batman won't fly with fans or executives, however why was Tom Cruise never even mentioned? Other than height at 5'7 everything else is there. He would be an older Bruce Wayne who has a far more refined WASP look than Affleck, a guy who personally has gone through peaks and valleys like Bruce Wayne throughout his career, Oscar nominations for dark movies like Born on the Fourth of July and Magnolia (Affleck can't touch that performance, which is a lot like Bruce Wayne a man who on the outside is confident but beneath the surface tortured) and he already has the fighting skills necessary for the role (ala Collateral, Jack Reacher, MI Movies). Continuing on he has never played a superhero and strangely enough Bale got the role for Bruce Wayne/Batman based on his performance in American Psycho which Bret Easton Ellis (author) had commented he wrote the book and developed Bale's character off of Tom Cruise. Cruise may not be liked in many ways by some of the public but Bruce Wayne is the same type of character, essentially equally hated and loved or at least pretended to be loved by many. There shouldn't be any question regarding acting chops vs Affleck I would even prefer Dicaprio who could bulk up and play a better Bruce Wayne and Dicaprio has worked with Christopher Nolan in Inception which could entice Nolan to stick around.

    Didn't see a spot about the Riddler but Timberlake shouldn't be it. I'd go with the Christoph Waltz in that role.
