Mrs. Affleck: 'Ben has a real take on Batman' (video)

We still haven't heard from Ben Affleck himself, but MTV caught up with his wife, Jennifer Garner, at the Toronto International Film Festival to get her thoughts on her husband as Batman. Here's what she had to say:

You know, I was excited for him. I was excited because he had a real take on what he wanted to do, and you know, I have to say, my husband is a pretty great storyteller himself, and I'm excited to watch him do it.

Ben Affleck is a pretty great storyteller and it's awesome to hear that he already has an idea of how he'd like to tackle the Batman character. When MTV asked if Garner had heard Affleck's Batman voice yet, she just laughed and said "I hear every voice".

In a separate interview, Jennifer Garner talked more about Ben Affleck's casting, this time with ET Canada. Like any big decision for a married couple, she and Affleck talked it over and decided it would be a great move for them:

I’m excited about Batman, of course. Everything we do, we look at it together, and we say, 'Can we handle this? Can we take this?' And this was one where we were like, 'Let’s go to Michigan!'.

A majority of Batman vs. Superman will be shot in Michigan, around the Detroit area early next year.

It shouldn't be long until we hear from Ben Affleck, however. His new movie Runner Runner hits theaters on October 4th, so he'll be doing a lot of promotion in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to Batman News for that one!

Agreed. I got really excited about that. I mean Ben's known this for a while now and I wonder what he has going on around in his head. I agree with Jennifer that Affleck is an amazing storyteller. I like to hope that she was hinting at Ben being involved in the script. :D

Some guy from the BBC asked him two days after the announcement at a rugby match. His quotes were that he was "more than excited" and "He is such a great actor I'm so very excited about working with him. He is going to have such a presence. I can't wait."

Dunno about a dead Bruce, cause I doubt the average moviegoer is ready for big changes to franchises, but I do want me a Damian. Maybe that kid from Hugo.

i would have had some smidge of respect for affleck if he'd addressed the fans right out of the gate. all he had to do was say: i hope the fans will give me a chance to bring you a great batman ~ and i i would have been satisfied to wait it out. but he still hasn't said a peep, instead letting everyone and his mother speak for him. bad move, affleck.

and his condescending little damon friend isn't winning any points either for his snotty lear comments.

    I consider myself a big Batman fan, and I hope he doesn't care what the initial reactions are. Let him prepare for the role. He has two damn years for good press. He doesn't owe you, me, or anyone any kind of comment.

I completely disagree, anything he would've said would've been met with even more backlash. Also, the people who revolted don't even deserve a response by Affleck, death threats? Heavy handed insults? Stating he's the worst actor in the world? Really? It was disgusting and people like that should be ignored. Even the petitions had comments that were simply baseless.

  no, of course people who make death threats and comport themselves like beasts don't deserve a response.
  but legitimate fans are unhappy/concerned with the decision and i do believe he could go far to make reassurances (but he isn't, which is why i am disconcerted). it would have made a difference to me and probably countless others.

    Hmm very true, maybe a reassurance, but I don't think it's very necessary. In the end, it's a done deal anyway, the trailer and pics will do the talking.

I don't think he's "letting" people talk for him. The problem is that reporters keep asking the question to people not involved. It's not like he's calling Hugh Jackman up and saying "hey, dude, can you go find a camera tell people you think I'll do a good job?"
And what could he possibly say that's going to change anything?
If he said "I'm a huge Batman fan and this is a dream come true" people would still say "yeah, but you can't act!!!!!!!!!!!"
If he said "I have a unique take on what I want to do with the character" people would still say "Karl Urban would've been sooooooooooo much better!!!!!"
If he said "This is what my Batman voice is going to sound like" people would still say "KEVIN CONROY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

This guy has already been through the wringer after the whole Bennifer thing. I don't think he's in a rush to talk to the press about ANYTHING these days except when he absolutely has to. And in a couple of weeks he absolutely has to so we'll see what happens then.

He doesn't have to speak with us about anything. This isn't some scandal going on in Hollywood that he is involved in. He's playing a character in a movie. Sorry, but why in the hell would he address people who will hate him regardless of what he says? If he does come out, people would think he was trying to "brown nose" us into liking him. Honestly, his lack of words shows his dedication and his maturity. And he isn't forcing anyone to say anything about him. It's the interviewers asking other people. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Batman and Superman together in a movie is HUGE. People are going to ask. In either case, interviews will be coming. We have two years of interviews and production and post-production, and all kinds of stuff.

    My apologies if I assumed you were in a bubble. LOL. I read some of your later posts and I understand where you are coming from and it would be neat to hear from Affleck. But maybe all the hate is what is discouraging him from saying anything. He wants to make everyone suffer. You know how the saying goes where one ruins it for everyone else! Maybe we will hear from him soon enough. Maybe he just wants to let the storm calm down before he says anything. Or maybe, like you said, he just doesn't care. Or maybe he cares enough to not give in to our demands! I don't know.

I think batman will outshine Superman in his own movie if the porduction let it happen, what i think is hard (and bad) for the way what they annouce the film. But i think this still be a Superman movie, with a all-star support, and thats why they got the problem to find a name of the film, because how you stabilish something for Superman with Batman together in it?

  Not my first choice for the role, but hell - why not? Even because they're trying to pave the way for JL, and i think Affleck has a lot on his plate to offer for this project, just like RDJr did with Ironman.
