on Warner Bros. launches 'The Dark Knight Rises' Oscar campaign, releases new photos

Warner Bros. launched a new website today, lobbying for its top movies of 2012 to get some Oscar recognition. The Dark Knight Rises is the first movie that Warner Bros. is showcasing, with a list of all the categories they think The Dark Knight Rises deserves to be nominated for. They also released 9 new still photos from Christopher Nolan's epic Batman finale, which you can check out after the break.

Do you think Christopher Nolan will finally take home his first Oscar for his work on The Dark Knight Rises? Will he even get nominated for "Best Director"?     I stopped caring about all these awards years ago, most of them don't make any sense anymore. Well it will be heartening to see Nolan and crew win something.

    Are you kidding me? If this film wins or even gets nominated for Best Picture, it'll be a travesty. Yes, Christopher Nolan deserves it, but he really deserved it for The Dark Knight, not 'Rises'. It would be awesome if the film got best Sound again though.

      I love TDKR, but it shouldn't even be in the best sound category.  The sound mixing in TDKR is perhaps the biggest flaw.  A lot of dialogue was seriously drowned out by the music.  It really wasn't done well.

       Well, this type of thing isn't that rare when it comes to the Academy Awards. Martin Scorsese never got Oscars for his truly great films, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, etc., but he was finally given on for The Departed. It was universally understood that he was given it not because The Departed was such an exceptionally good film, but because he had been snubbed for the award so many times. I can see something like that happening for Nolan, especially with this being the end of the trilogy. As another commenter said, this would be akin to Peter Jackson receiving the Oscar for Return of the King; he was essentially awarded that Oscar for the entire trilogy.

    Peter Jackson didn't win an Oscar until 'Return of the King', which made it a sort of win for the trilogy as a whole. I could see the same thing happening to Nolan here. Not for 'The Dark Knight Rises', mind you, but for his Batman trilogy as a whole.

      Yeah, that's my best guess of what might happen too. The only problem is that in LOTR the third movie was the best, well at least in my opinion, and in this trilogy I personally feel that Dark Knight was the best, so that might be a problem.
      I think it will be nominated for effects, i don't know about sound editing due to the difficulty of hearing some of the characters, and I don't know about score because honestly most of the score was the same as the last movie. It'll be difficult to be nominated for best director, but I do hope he will be.
      However the movie does have a chance to be nominated for Best Picture due to the way that the Oscars' nominating process goes, I don't know if it has a chance of winning though.

    1. cinematography 2. visual effects 3. original score 4. sound mixing 5. sound editing  6. art direction 7. make up 8. film editing
    i hope it gets nominated for 9. best movie.
    i don't think Nolan would get nominated for TDKR.

    I don't think he will get the Oscar for 'Best Director', he did it better for Inception or TDK and he didn't win that time either, so...

      That would be cool, even though Alfred was MIA for about half the film.  Would also be cool to see oscar nods for Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Anne Hathaway or Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

    There is a slight chance of Spielberg or Scorsesse syndrome kicking in here were a directors body of work becomes so complete the Academy can not ignore rewarding said director eg Spielberg won for all his films as much as Saving Private Ryan the same with Scorsesse and The Departed , but this is just a slight chance as I personally don't think TDKR is Oscar worthy on any front , but I am sure Nolan will nab an Oscar one day !

      Agree. But I see some 'technical rewards' possibilities, as cinematography and original score. Yeah, it'll be difficult for Nolan to win something this time. If TDKR is indicated for something, it will be already a victory!

      But hey, who cares about the Oscars anyway? =)

    2012: Or perhaps he's wondering why would someone watch the trilogy and not have anything rewarded in return for such hard work, nobody cared about the awards until Heath Ledger won for best supporting actor.

    The triliogy, deserves an Oscar or two.  It´s easy one of the best triliogys i film history, so like "Lord of the Rings"  i think it will win more than one Oscar and ritghfully so! Editing and Visual effekt 4 sure! And Why not Best Dir. who copeed´s whit Nolan this year, remember TDKR was an huge task allmost mindblowing dude!

      Yeah! Seriously..............That death performance was shocking given it was Marion Cotillard who gave it and it was Christopher Nolan directing it.It will always remain a mystery to me why that happened.

        Something went terribly wrong from the start of the final battle onward. Honestly. I've studied the film's flaws and almost everything is either misinterpreted as a flaw, or forgivable, but the final battle is my major point detractor of this film. The geography, the death scene, the anti-climactic Batman vs Bane 2.0 etc. It's that final act solely that makes me rank TDKR below TDK.

          Sure.I feel the same about it.What a wasted opportunity that final battle between Batman and Bane and the cops and the thugs was given its scope.Nolan should've made it much longer,focused on it,not just going through it hurriedly...

    The Dark Knight Rises is an outstanding film...but in my opinion it falls a bit short of Nolan's usual movie making standards. So no Best Picture or Best Director.

    But this movie deserves nominations in: Best Cinematography, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing.....and perhaps Best Adapted Screenplay.

    The DKR is better than TDK, I'm sorry. TDK is a great movie, but DKR is much better with the acting, fights, villain (yes, Bane is more of a threat than the Joker, so he is better). Quit living in the past people.

    Best sound mixing?  Best sound editing?  Hate to sound like a broken record but what?  The sound editing was terrible in The Dark Knight Rises.  And no, I'm not talking about Bane's voice...I'm talking about the music that completely blanketed a good amount of dialogue. How a $250 million movie had that bad of sound editing I will never know.  I love The Dark Knight Rises, it's right up there with The Dark Knight for me, but if this movie will win anything, it'll be best cinematography or something along those lines.  The movie had too many flaws to be in the best film category.  This movie doesn't have the same perfection as The Dark Knight did, but the unbelievable intensity and character development makes up for the couple distracting plot holes.

    The Academy is too snobby and pretentious to consider a super-hero based movie for best picture or director no matter how good it was.

    And if TDK didn't win, then this one won't either.

    Fact: The "Oscars" are voted for by a large group of almost exclusively old, rich, white men who don't even watch all the nominated films, or even know much about film.  You can join this group if one of the old men invites you.  Taste in or knowledge of film is utterly irrelevant.   

    They often just pick whatever film looks like it should win an Oscar, i.e. the equivalent of a boring pretentious novel, and give that the Oscar.  But not if an actor in that film was involved in some kind of "entertainment" picture in the same year.   Which makes no sense, but tough shit.

    Whilst there are some deserved wins like Schindler's List, there are many piles of crap like Titanic, Shakespeare in Love, and that crud starring bloody Cher.  They'll probably give some 3rd rate Oscar to TDKR like Best Catering Department, and Best Facial Hair to The Avengers.  

    The truth is, The Oscars do waaaay less to promote a film today then they did several years ago.  Look at how many Best Actor winners are languishing in B and C list movies today.  Some terrible actors and directors have won these "awards" (HALLE BERRY!) so I'd rather TDKR stayed away from them.  Everyone knows Nolan is amazing and only hires the best talent around.  TDKR made over a billion dollars already, and will sell islands of blu-ray dvd's.

    The Oscars is Hollywood jerking off in public for a night to feel important.  And goddamn, is it boring to watch.

    If RETURN OF THE KING won best picture, then...yeah, TDKR could win a non-technical Oscar. Yet there are so many movies that didn't win Oscars and are classics like RAGING BULL and GOODFELLAS off the top of my head. 

    I wonder which of the 3 Dark Knight films will become part of the Criterion Collection? Maybe THE DARK KNIGHT(because it changed the standard Comic-Book film) first and then THE DARK KNIGHT RISES(because of its layered plot and themes which changed the standard for movie trilogies- new heights).

    If this movie gets nominated for anything in the major categories it would be Best Picture, and even that feels like a little bit of a long shot. I'd be thrilled if it did, but I'm not counting on it. Nolan's chances in categories such as director and adapted screenplay are pretty much nonexistent.

    It will be very interesting to see how TDKR does in the year-end top 10 lists and critics' awards, though.

      But not the one it deserves right now from what I gather round. Nolan does deserve to win Best Director purely for the balls to make these three movies as they are. Equally Zimmer deserves a trilogy win (unfortunately James Newton Howard would too, but that;s impossible now). Wally's been there already, though a nom is fine. Sound mixing no way this time, Bane's voice sounded like it came from a friggin speaker, ridiculousy hard (thanks to the nagging deaf portion of americans).

      Director and Composer wins are the two most deserved imo, mainly for the trilogy as a whole. As well as visual effects for this one. A cinematography nom is fine as well. The rest seems undeserved to me.
