on Warner Bros. wants Armie Hammer as Batman in 'Justice League'?

A few weeks ago I was watching The Social Network again and got an idea for an article to write here on Batman-News.com. It was going to be titled "Armie Hammer: The man who was almost Batman". For those of you who don't know... in 2007 George Miller signed on to direct a live action Justice League film. Characters were cast, with Armie Hammer getting the role of The Dark Knight, costumes were designed, and story boards were completed. The film never took off though, and it was canceled about a year later.

Now Moviehole.net's sources claim that Warner Bros. is interested once again in the 26 year old actor who they hired to play Batman just five years ago. Hammer was relatively unknown back then, but now after The Social Network and Mirror Mirror he has a bit more name recognition. At this point I think it's too early to take any casting news with anything other than a grain of salt, but let me know how you'd feel about Hammer portraying Batman in the comments below. I've also included a video interview of Hammer talking about the failed Justice League project after the break.

      Who would should WB based Justice League and Batman around?

      A - A young, 26 year old, upcoming actor who is already well liked and respected and could carry the franchise for a decade or more.

      or

      B - A 40 year old actor who has proven to be box office poison every single time he's landed a leading role.

        I would prefer neither. This guy is only 26, and I would like Batman to be the sort of guy who is the wiser type because of his age and experience. Granted I don't want him to necessarily be 40, but someone who is around 35ish. Give or take a few years. Seriously, how about a Kevin Conroy type Batman this time around though. One who is a little older, agile, and smarter than the rest of the Justice League.

      Unless this is Batman shortly after he becomes Batman. But that seems unlikely since Batman doesn't immediately join the JLA after becoming the Batman. Who knows, maybe the way they do his hair and stuff in the movie will make him look the appropriate age.

      I'd like for him to be Batman in a few movies to keep consistency (considering he does well in the role) These movies take a LONG time to make and people can age out of a role pretty quickly. Like Iron-Man 3 is RDJ's last run as Iron-Man and I'm so upset he won't be in the Avengers sequel.

    At 2007 i think was a bad choice, but today, after we finnaly seen some films with him, i can say its a good choice. But IF this for real, he have much to proof, and survive 'The Lone Ranger' test, because a Disney movie with Johhny Depp in a big chance to the studio put all the lights above him and exclued all the rest, in special the main actor.But for now, i see much talk, none confirmation (besides i have a strong theory about Zack Snyder helming the film), soo lets just wait what happen.

    does warner brothers realize that if they restart Batman so soon that they will loose so many fans??? What's so hard about having Bale come back as Batman?????

      Sam I agree 100%. WB is in the business of making money and throwing another Batman movie or JL movie together so soon after the Nolan trilogy is a disaster waiting to happen. Instead of wasting time piecing together another Bat flick with a new lead and director, WB should be negotiating with Nolan 24/7 to come back for another movie or two, or at least while Bale is still young enough to don the cape and cowl. Any new movie with an actor playing Batman, other than Bale, will flop. It's way too soon after the trilogy for a reboot. Comparisons, fair or not, will naturally be made to the trilogy and of course a new flick will fall far short. Of course there will always be the core of Bat fans that will watch any Batman movie, even if Ben Stiller is playing the lead. But discerning fans will not. A Batman movie minus Bale will also lose the casual movie goers who, due to word of mouth and positive reviews, came out to see the trilogy. These casual fans are not die hard Batman fans.

        Don't even need Bale. Jo Go-Lev will work just fine! :D But I agree... Even talk about this right now is just too soon! But I mean, just looking at this guy, it's hard to seem him as the brooding Bat. He looks too.....commercial.

        I could not have stated that better myself. And by the way don't forget the fans that are not necessarily hard core comic fans, but hardcore fans that became fans from the tv shows and Saturday morning cartoons like myself. Us Saturday morning cartoon fans are the ones that go back to read more about the origins of the character, after the fact, since that stuff was not really in the cartoons in such depth. That would put us more in the category (kinda) of the movie fans that go because of the word of mouth thing you described. Even when Nolan's Batman came out I was very skeptical because of all that garbage with the Batman and Robin movie. For me, the most upsetting part of that, before I even sat down to watch it, was the fact, that once again, the lead role was going to be played by someone else in a short span of 5 - 6 years. This time around that nonsense is just going to upset me and so many other fans even more. WB and DC need to just focus on putting out more stand alone DC movies. Give up this Justice League movie business for awhile, if Bale won't come back. I would personally like to see a stand alone, origins, Cat-woman (Nolan's) trilogy, Captain Marvel movie, Nightwing, and even Flash movie. That should keep WB and DC busy for awhile. By the way Sam Duncan, there should not be anything hard about having Bale come back as Batman, but people themselves make that hard. I would personally love to see Bale come back, maybe even more for a 4th Batman movie than Justice League movie, although if he did do a Justice League movie that would get me to see it with much anticipation.

        But Lark, every indication is that whoever plays Batman in the JL, will play the Caped Crusader in subsequent Batman movies.

            So you think they are going to find not one, but two different actors to play Batman? Doesn't appear to be an efficient approach, especially when it's going to take a herculean effort to find just one suitable replacement for Bale. And it certainly won't do much for continuity.

    Maybe maybe not. You have to picture him with his hair dyed Black and with a cowl. 
    He looks more like a Flash.

      Good call, he'd be a great flash.
      He doesn't really have that aura of depth and complexity that Bale has that makes his Batman so captivating to watch.  That said, they could make a worse choice for Batman.

    Absolutely not. First of all its too early to be restarting Batman all over, look at how long it took them to do it after Clooney destroyed the franchise then Christian Bale rebuilt it so let it hang around a little while. Second this kid does not seem the part of Bruce Wayne/Batman he's way too young, and in my personal opinion no one is going to be a better Batman than Christian Bale anyway the man nailed the part and is not going to be outdone anytime soon, and we all know Bale said The Dark Knight Rises is his last time wearing the cowl so he won't be back for Justice League. Let's just keep Justice League on hold until us the fans are ready for it because quite honestly I'm not ready for a new Batman.

    If he could live up to the expectations set by Christian Bale as Batman, this would be a great idea. I don't know much about Armie, but this could be a great debut movie for him depending on his acting skills. I've personally never quite connected with many of the Batman actors, but I believe many fans will be behind me when I say the expectations for the role of Batman in The Justice League will be set extremely high. RISE to the challenge...

        Bruce Wayne has to hide his voice to keep people from possibly recognizing him, so if it takes a throat cancer voice to get the job done than that's what it takes. Bale = best Batman yet!

    Armie has quite a deep rough voice, which would be quite good for BATMAN but I think everyone will agree that in the next decade, we can't see anyone else playing the character as well as CHRISTAIN BALE!

    I think he's a fine actor, i just hesitate to consider him a good fit for Batman. Christian Bale obviously had the intensity that is required for an intense character. Even Michael Keaton had more gravitas in his face than Armie Hammer. But who knows. JL is more than a couple years down the pipe. Maybe he'll age into it.

      That's the word - gravitas.  This guy is too nice, and doesn't appear to have started growing facial hair yet.  There really is a shortage of masculine actors in Hollywood today.  Doesn't really matter how young the actor is, but he should look mature and world weary.

    Christian Bale was the best ever BRUCE WAYNE/BATMAN. It was voted on MSN news with KEATON obviously being 2nd but still miles behind on votes. I like the comment earlier that WB shouldn't be considering a new BATMAN, they should consider offering NOLAN an offer he cant refuse to direct the JUSTICE LEAGUE, then BALE would follow and return as THE DARK KNIGHT, with obviously BATMAN being the movie's main character. But remember what BALE said before, he never wanted to leave the character as it was like saying goodbye to an old friend, so it ain't a long shot for a return..... a BATMAN RETURNS at that!

      A good story would be Blake fighting off crime in Gotham as Robin but it becomes too much for him after a mysterious, intelligent yet psychotic new rising criminal mastermind known as The Riddler constantly out-smarts him and vows to find out he's secret identity, this brings back Batman and Selina Kyle from vacation to help Blake overcome Nigma, however Selina can't help but go back to her roots when surrounded by Gotham, and Batman and Robin have to not only stop The Riddler, but knock some sense back to Selina. Niga aligns himself with someone else who desperately wants to learn the identity of the the masked vigilantes, Professor Hugo Strange, together they eventually learn The Dark Knight is billionaire Bruce Wayne, and they plan to reveal it to the world, this brings back Selina to help Bruce and Blake stop the madmen and thwart their plan.

        I think it could be fun, if they had two spin-offs, one with jgl as robin/nightwing and the other as anne hathaway back as catwoman with christian bale in a cameo , I dont know if u people notice the killer crock nod in tdkr , but heres an idea have killer crock as hired muscle to try to take down robin/nightwing and have the riddler in cameo like role pulling the strings and targeting jim gordans family and have him in a small role in the catwoman movie hiring the penguin to take her down and lowering, them back to gotham, when batman comes out of retirement gotham city is bad shape with riddler taking down the police force and starting and all out gang war, and found out something stranges going on in arkham with cameos of hugo strange and harley quinn doing there own thing with riddler as the main villain in the fourth batman movie,, my idea is to have the riddler pulling the strings on robin/nightwing and batman and catwoman and him using the penguin and killer crock and showing and more updated arkham with scarecrow in cell and and hugo and harley taking care of the patient, only to find out hes somehow got out of cell and the riddler getting arrested towards the end , maybe his real thing was to free the joker or something. whats ur ideas ?

        For me, everything about your idea sounds cool and I would pay to watch that movie, but leave Selina Kyle out because than that takes away from Nolan's realistic interpretation of her. She came out of her thief like ways, and there is really no reason to go back, otherwise, she becomes too non-realistic for me. Have her play a Pepper Potts kind of role like she did in the Avengers (appear for a scene or two) and nothing more until the end of the movie. Quit honestly, if WB, DC want to compete with the Avengers your idea might just work.

          JAMES GALDOFINI as OSWALD COPPERPOT! After the death of mayor GARCIA in TDKR, there is new allecction for mayor of GOTHAM CITY in 2016. OSWALD COPPERPOT seems to be winning the allection but unfairly. He is corrupt, he was the known leader of the red triangle gang and he also is using brute and intimidating force on his opposition. COPPERPOT was known in the underworld as PENGUIN because when he was a young thief, a gang of drug lord's once chopped off his thumb and middle finger on both hands for stealing. He went back with guns selitaped to his wrists, and  killed every last member of the gang...with just his trigger fingers. He then became a respected mob boss. When he starts to bring heat upon himself during the allection, he brings in an old enemy in to try and riddle the cops... LEONARDO DICAPRIO as EDWARD NIGMA. COPPERPOT makes him a deal he can't refuse, get me as mayor, and you can have control of all the drug trades, all the racketeering and all the illegal gambling of the city. Just do what you are good at, don't get caught....keep people riddled. I will turn a blind eye to everything that goes on, the city will belong to me....the underworld will belong to you. COPPERPOT gives NIGMA control of the red triangle gang and his most feared henchmen... MICKEY ROURKE as CLAYFACE. Being called CLAYFACE because of his disfigurement fighting COPPERPOTS underground wars. If COPPERPOT gets into power, the world  greatest city, will once again be at war. There's one thing stopping them... JGL as ROBIN. With the help of JAMES GORDON, they try to uncover COPPERPOTS plan and take down NIGMA and hopefully be able to deal with CLAYFACE. When ROBIN gets caught, will an old friend return to save his city.... (HANS ZIMMER music duuuuuuu dhwwwww)

    I really think the new Batman should be older, someone like John Hamm or Josh Brolin. Someone with a deep voice, similar to the Animated Series Batman.
