The Dark Knight Rises passed the $400 million mark this weekend, with an estimated domestic total of $409.9 million. This makes The Dark Knight Rises the 15th movie in history to break the $400 million mark at the domestic box office. When you factor in the international box office numbers as well, the total gross for The Dark Knight Rises (as of this weekend) comes out to $855.2 million. Will Christopher Nolan's Batman finale be able to hit the $1 billion mark? We'll find out soon!

If I could go back in time...I would go back to the beginning of The Dark Knight Rises in the theater. Just to relive that "heart pounding first time seeing" moment on film in my life....Nolan, no words can express the right thing for what you have given to us.

he's producing MAN OF STEEL right now, he and David Goyer also wrote the story too (great sign of things to come). Looks like Superman is going to finally get the epic movie he deserves
& if it's anything like the DARK KNIGHT series the we are in for another treat of movies. Let's sit back and enjoy what Nolan is going to have a hand in again.

  No one forbade Nolan to do Rises in 3d. Overconfidence. And you people can't accept that some other movie made more money (is it really so important?) and produce excuses. Grow up, money isn't everything. Rises is a great film, that's what matters.

    Never meant to imply that I wanted to see the movie in 3D or that Nolan should have filmed it in 3D. I'm glad he didn't. And yes Avengers made more money; I really don't care. (at least not enough to even see it)
    But I do wonder how much the difference might have been minus 3D ticket sales.

    3D is a hype, started by that so called "brilliant" Avatar movie. Do you honestly believe that the studios would've embraced it so much if it wouldn't add to the BO?
    Some avatarfanboy answered me on IMDB that the higher ticket prices didn't do much. Sure kid... Besides, that Nolan doesn't use 3D isn't overconfidence. It's proof that he does what he wants.

      Or he JUST sticks to what he knows (which is not bad). 3d was great for "Avatar" but it was a movie specificly made for that format, what I was trying to say was that someone like Christopher Nolan who is considered quite a skilled director, could make a better use of the format than simple action movies that are only converted to 3d for financial reasons. If he had done the movie in 3d he could have changed the game - but no. Christopher Nolan is good in his own filmmaking which is mostly copying Michael Mann.The best joke here is you praising someone not for doing something, but for all he didn't do. That's a shame and it is overconfidence - if not his, than certainly yours.

Oh I hope it reaches the $1 billion mark. It deserves to. It was a great movie. I'm so sad that Nolan's Batman series is over. When Nolan rebooted Batman after the atrocious Batman and Robin with Batman Begins, he did far more than reboot the franchise. He re imagined it and made it his own. In Nolan We Trust!

My theory: How can you tell that TDKR has topped it's predecessor? I watched TDKR 5 times in theater already and couldn't watch BB or TDK since DKR's release :) May be I'll watch them back to back after its DVD release.

I REALLY REALLY hope there's going to be a Director's Cut in December where it will be long enough to provide the full coherent plot this film deserves. I don't care if it will 3 to 3.5 hours long. The way the film is now is great and there are really are no gaps in the plot if you do your research, but I just would like to see a more thorough explainations in the story VISUALLY by making the film longer.

Looking at the official script (they just released a book with all 3 scripts), everything in that is in the script pretty much is in the movie. There are a few lines missing with some scenes being a line or two longer. And there is a flashback scene of bane training with the League of Shadows (which has already been mentioned). I think if you put all these back in there probably wouldn't be more that 10 minutes or so to add.
But yes it would be nice to get these back in if they were actually filmed and removed for time.
