Will Arnett to voice Batman in Warner Bros. movie 'Lego: The Piece of Resistance'

File this one under "whatttt???". It looks like we won't have to wait too long to see Batman back on the big screen after The Dark Knight Rises. Variety just broke the news that Will Arnett will be the voice of Batman in a new Warner Bros. movie Lego: The Piece of Resistance. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are directing the family comedy, which is said to be part live action, part Lego-animation. Variety reports that Lego: The Piece of Resistance has been in development since 2008 as part of their ongoing relationship with Lego.

Update: Turns out this isn't a "Lego Batman movie". It's a Lego movie with lots of famous character cameos. Batman is there, but probably won't be a main character. Thanks to commenter lethargicj for the heads up!

It'll be the first Bat-film to be rated R as well. Anyone who has played LEGO Batman knows that LEGO Batman kills EVERYONE.

Interesting... Weird, but nothing to complain about as it's such a different and interesting approach. I wonder who will do the music, I think Danny Elfman would make sense because Legos are just goofy like his music.

Before everybody starts going crazy, it's NOT a "Lego Batman" movie. It's a Lego movie where famous Lego characters will pop up here and there. Think Roger Rabbit, how other famous cartoon characters were just hanging around. Batman and Superman may very well only be in this for a scene or two.

The plot of the movie according to the writer: It is the story of basically a young man who doesn't have a creative bone in his body and he has to always build things from the instructions, he's an 'instructions worker'. In the LEGO city, they build buildings, and it turns out in this universe it's illegal to build apart from the instructions. So what he finds out is that he's actually a descendant from these like super creative Jedi-type people who are called 'Master Builders' and he has been charged with saving the universe from being frozen together by an evil bad guy, so over the course of the movie he has to unlearn all of that lame-o, uncreative stuff and learn how to build without all of the instructions in order to save the universe.

Sounds cool I guess. What I do find hilarious is the amount of people on other sites who are freaking out because they think this is an actual World's Finest movie, despite obviously being a license property cash-in with Batman and Supes being cameos at best.

Movie doesn't sound very good, but I will see it purely because it's Batman, Lego and Will Arnett all in the same film.
