The Oscars air live on February 26th and today a new ad campaign was revealed. The advertisements all feature the words "We Showed You" followed by a reference to a great movie of the past. One of those great movies happens to be The Dark Knight, and Heath Ledger as The Joker is featured prominently. As I'm sure you know, Ledger won a posthumous Oscar in 2009 for his brilliant performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight.

Comic book movies aren't typically given any Oscar attention, but Heath Ledger and The Dark Knight shook up the award show in 2009. Because of The Dark Knight's omission in the "Best Picture" category, up to 10 films are now nominated instead of 5. Do you think Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, or Gary Oldman will deliver an Oscar worthy performance in The Dark Knight Rises?

I think it will be tough for Tom Hardy to win an oscar because of the mask, even though I think he is a great actor. Anne Hathaway, might have a chance. Christian Bale doesn't stand a chance because of the deep batman voice. Michael Caine should win for his role as Alfred! Regardless, I can't wait the Dark Knight Rises!

Pretty cool ad, but i don't care about the oscars... i'd be ok if the academy has burnt down in flames.
About TDKR permormances, i think Anne Hathaway will have a big chance to shine, i think it's the oportunity of her LIFE. Much more difficult achievement for Hardy, because of the mask.

I believe that with the build up of this movie, especially considering they release a trailer in December and not on Super Bowl Sunday, is going to grow immensely by the time the next trailer comes out. They didn't really reveal that much because no one knows what the hell is going to happen in the movie. Second, I have a strong feeling that 'someone' will get a nod for this movie, Nolan, Hatheway, Hardy, Bale perhaps, Caine, Levitt**** maybe, for the simple fact that everyone will be drawn to it. But whoever is nominated has to go up against the political/drama movies in the fall/winter season like always. And this movie is going to CRUSH the box office records for the simple fact that it is Nolan's last, and TDK did so exceptionally well. Advertising is going to be astronomical as well as the viral campaign. It is truly going to be a magnificent movie.

I think Nicholson deserved an nomination for his Joker, more than Ledger an award for his performance.

Call me biased but in my opinion the DK should have won best picture and Chris Nolan, best director. I believe Slum Dog won that year. No doubt it was a good movie but I believe it was over-rated and definitely not on par with the Dark Knight. I thought for sure that Lord of the Rings had changed the mindset of the stodgy academy members. Apparently not. So here's hoping that Chris Nolan and the DKR get their just due this time around.

      You nailed it. I just don't see how the Hurt Locker ever got nominated, let alone win an award. What a pile of slop. Watching it was like watching paint dry.

To deliver an
"Oscar-worthy performance" is one thing, but to actually get
nominated is completely different. Delivering an 'Oscar-worthy performance'
does not guarantee a nomination, or even a win. Till the moment, your name is
actually announced during the nominations or during the awards ceremony,
NOTHING is confirmed. Otherwise, Sir Christopher Lee and Glenn Close would've
been gobbling up Oscars, right, left, and center.
On a side note, if this film is
being made ONLY with the intention of 'Oscar recognition', it is better if the
film is not made at all. 'Cos you don't need to do a Batman film in that
situation. Make a biopic instead having the Holocaust as its main theme, with
the male lead character suffering from a disability, and the female lead
character suffering from sexuality issues (undergoing physical transformation).
The film will definitely end up churning out Oscars.
On the other hand, if 'The Dark
Knight Rises' is NOT being made with the sole intention of 'Oscar recognition',
any lack of attention from the Academy should be taken in an extremely sporting
manner. After all, 'Oscar recognition' wasn't your sole reason for doing this
film, right?
Does Oscar nomination/winning
status guarantee physical immortality or something? If no, then why this
pathetic obsession with the Oscars? Does lack or absence of Oscar recognition
mean that you are a bad human being? If no, then why behave as if your whole
career and life is dependent on that statuette alone (& nothing else)?

It'll be the greatest day of my life if the Academy ever
burnt down in flames...I'm sick of the obsession with the Oscars.
If people associated with the film industry get the Oscars, why should the rest
of us (those of us who belong to the 'real world') fuss over it so much? Do WE
get an Oscar for being the Best Fan or something? No. Then why bother as to who
wins, and who doesn't?
Do the Oscars improve our quality of life? Do the Oscars reduce corruption and
poverty? Do the Oscars ensure that all kids spend a happy childhood, having
access to good education? Do the Oscars ensure that girls (in conservative
countries) are not discriminated against for 'not being boys'? Will the Oscars
ensure that I get a good job and a decent salary? Will the Oscars ensure that
my kids don't turn out to be drunken louts?
The answer to all the above questions is a two-letter word: NO. Therefore, I
couldn't care less about the Oscars.

  LOL, I'm sorry your great-aunt or someone didn't win an Oscar during their acting heyday then... I assume you also hate about more than half the aspects of humanity, because they "do not solve humanity's problems". OF COURSE the Oscars wouldn't solve any of those problems - they were not made for that purpose!

  ...Come here...Look at me.So I was being offered many roles,that are not...very interesting,that are not...very promising,that are not special and not able to show everyone how talented I am.One day Christopher Nolan offered me a role,and I thought I had to accept it because it was awesome.So I take the make-up and do this to myself.And you know what?I win an Oscar for it.Other fellow-nominees leave...Now I always see the pleasure in my work.Now I'm always pleased.

Batman doesn't really deserve any oscors. It's good but at the end of the day it's still a comic book movie.

Even if TDKR surpasses TDK, it won't win an Oscar, ironically emought because of The Dark Knight Rule. 10 films competing for Best Picture makes it harder for one to win.

I don't want to get to far ahead of myself, but I doubt that anyone from The Dark Knight Rises will be nominated. I'm sure it will be totally deserving, but I really doubt that Heath would have been nominated had it not been for his unfortunate passing.
